Abstract This article provides an overview of the background knowledge of ferroptosis in the nervous system, as well as the key role of nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) in regulating ferroptosis. The article takes Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), Huntington's disease (HD), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) as the starting point to explore the close association between Nrf2 and ferroptosis, which is of clear and significant importance for understanding the mechanism of neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) based on oxidative stress (OS). Accumulating evidence links ferroptosis to the pathogenesis of NDs. As the disease progresses, damage to the antioxidant system, excessive OS, and altered Nrf2 expression levels, especially the inhibition of ferroptosis by lipid peroxidation inhibitors and adaptive enhancement of Nrf2 signaling, demonstrate the potential clinical significance of Nrf2 in detecting and identifying ferroptosis, as well as targeted therapy for neuronal loss and mitochondrial dysfunction. These findings provide new insights and possibilities for the treatment and prevention of NDs.

Abstract Introduction and aim: Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) are recognised as the highest level of original evidence and provide essential evidence for dentists to practice evidence-based dentistry. By analysing the top 100 most-cited RCT reports in orthodontics, this study aimed to determine popular research topics, key authors, countries, journals, and their impacts.
Methods: A comprehensive search was performed in the Web of Science (WoS) electronic database to identify the top 100 most-cited RCT reports in orthodontics. Publication and citation data were retrieved and further analysed and visualised using R Biblioshiny. The primary themes of the 100 articles were also determined. Additionally, the correlation between number of years since publication and citation counts was examined.
Results: The top 100 most-cited RCT reports were published between 1992 and 2018, contributed by 419 authors across 22 journals, with an average citation count of 93.48. The US led with the highest number of publications (28) and citations (2552), followed by the UK (22 and 2061) and Australia (8 and 912). Notably, 20 of the top 24 authors with at least 4 publications are from the UK. The primary focus areas of the articles included early Class II treatment (n = 14), obstructive sleep apnoea (n = 14), demineralisation (n = 12), and pain and quality of life (n = 12). Besides, a positive correlation was found between the number of years since publication and citation counts (P < .001).
Conclusions: The top 100 most-cited RCT reports in orthodontics encompass a wide range of topics with varying focus areas across different time periods. This analysis recognises the contributions of scholars and offers valuable insights into the research trends within the field of orthodontics.

Abstract In recent years, with the rapid development of computer storage capabilities and network transmission capabilities, users can easily share their own video and image information on social networking sites, and the amount of multimedia data on the network is rapidly increasing. With the continuous increase of the amount of data in the network, the establishment of effective automated data management methods and search methods has become an increasingly urgent need. This paper proposes a retrieval method of human motion data based on motion capture in index space. By extracting key frames from the original motion to perform horizontal dimensionality reduction and defining features based on Laban motion analysis, the motion segment is subjected to vertical feature dimensionality reduction. After extracting features from the input motion segment, motion matching is performed on the index space. This paper designs the optimization method of the phased dynamic time deformation algorithm in time efficiency and analyzes the optimization method of the phased dynamic time deformation algorithm in time complexity. Considering the time efficiency redundancy, this paper optimizes the time complexity of the phased dynamic time deformation method. This improves the time efficiency of the staged dynamic time warping algorithm, making it suitable for larger-scale human motion data problems. Experiments show that the method in this paper has the advantage of speed, is more in line with the semantics of human motion, and can meet the retrieval requirements of human motion databases.

Abstract To reveal the variation of gut microbiota and its association with immune function in cured patients with coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) disease, gut microbiota of patients discharged from hospital for 20 ~ 23 months and healthy volunteers was analyzed by high throughput 16S rRNA sequencing. The diversity and abundance were compared, and the correlation with immunity factors was investigated, and changes in the content of 6 genera microorganisms with proportion higher than 0.1% were revealed in patients with COVID-19 disease: reduced content of Subdoligranulum, Haemophilus, Coprococcus, Eubacterium vertriosum group, and Lachnospiraceae ND3007 group and increased content of Hungatella. NK cells were negatively correlated to Subdoligranulum, while CD8 cells were positively correlated to Subdoligranulum but negative to Hungatella. IL-8 concentration was negatively correlated to Subdoligranulum, Haemophilus, Coprococcus, Eubacterium vertriosum group, and Lachnospiraceae ND3007 group but positively to Hungatella, while IL-1β concentration was negatively correlated to Haemophilus and Eubacterium ventriosum group but positively to Hungatella. The variation of probiotics and potential pathogenic bacteria implies a higher risk in diseases and inflammation, and the modulation of the gut microbiota may help the healing of COVID-19 patients.

Abstract Abstract Microglia, CNS resident innate immune cells, respond strongly to activation of TLR3 and TLR4, which recognize viral dsRNA poly(I:C) and bacterial endotoxin LPS, respectively. However, few studies have thoroughly and parallelly compared functional phenotypes and downstream mechanisms between LPS- and poly(I:C)-exposed primary microglia. Here, we investigated the responses of mouse primary microglia upon LPS and poly(I:C) stimulation by detecting various phenotypes ranging from morphology, proliferation, secretion, chemotaxis, to phagocytosis. Furthermore, we explored their sequential gene expression and the downstream signal cascades. Interestingly, we found that the microglial activation pattern induced by LPS was distinguished from that induced by poly(I:C). Regarding microglial morphology, LPS caused an ameboid-like shape while poly(I:C) induced a bushy shape. Microglial proliferation was also facilitated by LPS but not by poly(I:C). In addition, LPS and poly(I:C) modulated microglial chemotaxis and phagocytosis differently. Furthermore, genome-wide analysis provided gene-level support to these functional differences, which may be associated with NF-κb and type I interferon pathways. Last, LPS- and poly(I:C)-activated microglia mediated neurotoxicity in a co-culture system. This study extends our understanding of TLR roles in microglia and provides insights into selecting proper inflammatory microglial models, which may facilitate identification of new targets for therapeutic application.

Abstract Abstract Background Recent studies have shown that umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells have an anti-aging effect in ovaries, but the cellular and molecular mechanisms of HA-MSC ovarian anti-aging remain to be studied. Therefore, we conducted a 10X Genomics single-nucleus transcriptome sequencing experiment on the ovaries of macaque monkeys after HA-MSC treatment. Methods The results of cell subgroup classification were visualized by 10X Genomics single nuclear transcriptome sequencing. The aging model of hGCs was established, and the migration ability of the cells was determined after coculture of HA-MSCs and aging hGCs. The genes screened by single nuclear transcriptional sequencing were verified in vitro by qPCR. Results Compared with the aging model group, the number of cell receptor pairs in each subgroup of the HA-MSC-treated group increased overall. Treatment with 200 μmol/L H2O2 for 48 h was used as the optimum condition for the induction of hGC senescence. After coculture of noncontact HA-MSCs with senescent hGCs, it was found that HA-MSCs can reverse the cell structure, proliferation ability, senescence condition, expression level of senescence-related genes, and expression level of key genes regulating the senescence pathway in normal hGCs. Conclusions HA-MSC therapy can improve the tissue structure and secretion function of the ovary through multiple cellular and molecular mechanisms to resist ovarian aging. In vitro validation experiments further supported the results of single-cell sequencing, which provides evidence supporting a new option for stem cell treatment of ovarian senescence.

Abstract Abstract Sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs) work similarly to lithium‐ion batteries, but they cost less and are safer. However, the battery has some shortcomings, such as low energy density and poor stability, which hinder its development and application. The development of electrode materials with low cost and high‐performance characteristics is a hot and difficult point in the research of SIBs. In this paper, the existing sodium ion cathode and anode materials are systematically reviewed. Firstly, the electrochemical structures and properties of various cathode and anode materials were introduced, and the limitations of cathode and anode materials of SIBs were analyzed. Based this, the current modification methods were summarized, such as surface coating of materials, doping of heteroatoms and metal elements to improve the electrochemical performance. In this paper, the research progress and modification measures of SIBs are summarized and prospected. It is helpful to further improve its comprehensive performance and lay a foundation for the future application of cathode and anode materials for SIBs.

Abstract Silk fibroin has become a promising biomaterial owing to its remarkable mechanical property, biocompatibility, biodegradability, and sufficient supply. However, it is difficult to directly construct materials with other formats except for yarn, fabric and nonwoven based on natural silk. A promising bioinspired strategy is firstly extracting desired building blocks of silk, then reconstructing them into functional regenerated silk fibroin (RSF) materials with controllable formats and structures. This strategy could give it excellent processability and modifiability, thus well meet the diversified needs in biomedical applications. Recently, to engineer RSF materials with properties similar to or beyond the hierarchical structured natural silk, novel extraction and reconstruction strategies have been developed. In this review, we seek to describe varied building blocks of silk at different levels used in biomedical field and their effective extraction and reconstruction strategies. This review also present recent discoveries and research progresses on how these functional RSF biomaterials used in advanced biomedical applications, especially in the fields of cell-material interactions, soft tissue regeneration, and flexible bioelectronic devices. Finally, potential study and application for future opportunities, and current challenges for these bioinspired strategies and corresponding usage were also comprehensively discussed. In this way, it aims to provide valuable references for the design and modification of novel silk biomaterials, and further promote the high-quality-utilization of silk or other biopolymers.

Abstract In the present study, we combined morphological and phylogenetic methods to characterize Myxobolus pseudonobilis n. sp. infecting Hypophthalmichthys molitrix Valenciennes, 1844 from Chongqing, China. The morphology and molecular characteristics of M. pseudonobilis n. sp. were distinct from those of other previously described Myxobolus species. Mature myxospores were ovoid in frontal view with spore dimensions of 10.0 ± 0.4 (9.3–10.9) μm in length and 8.5 ± 0.2 (7.9–9.0) μm in width. Two polar capsules occupying approximately half of the myxospore length were unequal in size. The larger polar capsule containing 6 to 7 filament coils measured 5.2 ± 0.3 (4.5–5.8) μm in length and 3.6 ± 0.2 (3.2–3.9) μm in width, while the smaller capsule with 4 to 5 filament coils measured 3.9 ± 0.3 (3.0–4.4) μm in length and 2.5 ± 0.3 (2.1–3.6) μm in width. The comparison of molecular characteristics demonstrated similarities and genetic distances of 18S rDNA sequences of 95.19% - 98.20% and 1.82% - 5.46%, respectively, between M. pseudonobilis n. sp. and its morphologically similar species, and secondary structures were also distinctly different. Moreover, phylogenetic analysis showed that M. pseudonobilis n. sp. was clustered with other myxobolids possessing spores with a blunt anterior end and branched independently. In addition, the morphology of myxosporeans as an important indicator was discussed.
