Abstract Integrins are necessary for cell adhesion, migration, and positioning. Essential for inducing signalling events for cell survival, proliferation, and differentiation, they also trigger a variety of signal transduction pathways involved in mediating invasion, metastasis, and squamous-cell carcinoma. Several recent studies have demonstrated that the up- and down-regulation of the expression of αv and other integrins can be a potent marker of malignant diseases and patient prognosis. This review focuses on an arginine-glycine-aspartic acid (RGD)-dependent integrin αVβ6, its biology, and its role in healthy humans. We examine the implications of αVβ6 in cancer progression and the promotion of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by contributing to the activation of transforming growth factor beta TGF-β. Although αvβ6 is crucial for proper function in healthy people, it has also been validated as a target for cancer treatment. This review briefly considers aspects of targeting αVβ6 in the clinic via different therapeutic modalities.

Abstract Indian mycologists have extensively studied various groups of fungi such as soil fungi, aquatic fungi, marine fungi, endophytic fungi, fungi associated with man and animals. Though several books on various aspects of fungi are published, this is the first account of the history and developments in mycology in India. It discusses at length various stages of development of mycology including both classical and biotechnological aspects. It begins with a historical account of Indian mycology, followed by a description of research on fossil fungi. Further chapters cover the latest updates on different taxonomic groups of fungi. A dedicated section describes the roles and applications of fungal endophytes. The book also includes research in other important areas such as mushrooms and wood rotting fungi. Different chapters are written by leading mycologists. This book is useful to students, teachers and researchers in botany, microbiology, biotechnology and life sciences, agriculture and industries using fungi to produce various valuable products.

Abstract MMPI profiles of 10 psychiatric PG's have been compared with 10 medical PG's. The findings are discussed statistically and otherwise. Both the groups fall within the range of normal. Some interesting findings are not unexpected, if a larger section of population could be studied preferably over a span of few years.

Abstract As sessile organisms, plants need to counteract different biotic and abiotic stresses to survive. RNA interference provides natural immunity against various plant pathogens, especially against viral infections via inhibition of viral genome replication or translation. In plants, DRB3, a multi-domain protein containing two N-terminal dsRNA binding domains (dsRBD), plays a vital role in RNA-directed DNA methylation of the geminiviral genome. Additionally, DRB3 arrests the replication of the viral genome in the viral replication complex of RNA viruses through a mechanism that has yet to be fully deciphered. Therefore, as a first step towards exploring the structural details of DRB3, we present a nearly complete backbone and side chain assignment of the two N-terminal dsRBD domains.
