    Abstract A presente pesquisa apresentou as principais contribuições à educação do intelectual e jornalista peruano José Carlos Mariátegui. Inicialmente fez-se uma breve cronologia de sua vida, posteriormente apresentou-se o contexto da América Latina entre os anos de 1918 a 1923, quando iniciou os escritos e a militância na educação. Explicitou um interesse enfático com a educação dos trabalhadores, não apenas pela construção de uma democracia andina, mas também como meio de proporcionar uma ação consciente das massas populares na luta pelo socialismo. Mariátegui também destacou que a aprendizagem é um processo para toda a vida, portanto a formação integral do indivíduo não se alcança nos primeiros anos de vida, o aprender pessoal apenas se esgota no final da vida. Referente ao método informou-se as três ideias pedagógicas centrais no tipo de educação não formal proposta pelo Amauta que são a estratégia pedagógica da conversação, rol mediador do docente e prática da contradição cognitiva. O autor nos faz refletir sobre o que implementar para criar uma escola que faça com que o conhecimento chegue até os trabalhadores/proletário, camponeses, pobres, negros etc, sendo um dos maiores desafios dos profissionais da educação hodierna. A orientação teórico-metodológica destes apontamentos compreendeu o materialismo histórico dialético, estabelecendo uma conexão com o conhecimento teórico e a realidade histórica objetiva.

    Abstract Chemical composition of PM10 was studied during the period of 2014–2015 in the city of São Carlos, Brazil (‘Dos Voluntários’ Square). PM10 samples were directly analysed by wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence – WD-XRF (Al, Ca, Ce, Cl, Fe, K, Mg, P, S, Si, Ti, V, and Zn), and by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy – LIBS (Ba, Ca, Fe, K, Mg, Na, Si and Ti) both for qualitative purposes. For quantitative analysis of Al, Ba, Ca, Fe, K, Na, S, and Zn, the analytes were extracted from samples of PM10 collected, in filters of glass fibre, with an extractive acid solution (HNO3 and HCl) and determined by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry – ICP OES. Spatial variations of elemental concentrations (ng m–3) were significantly higher in winter Al (19.0), Ba (13.6), Ca (20.0), Na (27.0), S (37.1), and Zn (9.5), autumn showed the highest concentration of Na (26.4), spring showed the highest concentration of Fe (11.6), K (13.1) and also S (25.3) and summer did not show a high concentration in the comparison between the seasons at the site. Using principal component analysis (PCA), as a data interpretation tool, with the data obtained by the WD-XRF and LIBS it was not possible to obtain a good correlation, but with the data of ICP OES, it was possible to verify correlations between identified and determinate elements, with samples collected in the autumn, winter, spring and summer seasons in the city of São Carlos. These associated analytical techniques were excellent tools in environmental monitoring, through the analysis of PM10 samples, presenting reliable and efficiency strategy, and based on the PCA and the EF equation was possible to draw the profile of the possible origins of these elements in the city.

    Titelübersetzung Identification of risk areas for the transmission of tuberculosis in the municipality of São Carlos, São Paulo State, Brazil, 2008 to 2013.
    Abstract Objective: to identify spatial and space-time clusters of risk for tuberculosis and to characterize them according to social vulnerability.
    Methods: ecological study which considered cases of tuberculosis in the municipality of São Carlos-SP, in the period from 2008 to 2013; spatial scan statistic was applied; the relative risk (RR) and 95% confidence interval (95%CI:) were calculated; the Social Vulnerability Index of São Paulo State was used to characterize the clusters.
    Results: three clusters were identified: two of high risk (RR=7.44; 95%CI: 4.73;11.65 / RR=6.94; 95%CI: 3.82;12.57) and one of low risk (RR=0.3; 95%CI: 0.35;0.96); all the clusters presented very low and medium vulnerability; in the space-time analysis, two clusters presented high risk (RR=12.6; 95%CI: 7.07;19.58 / RR=11.78; 95%CI: 6.00;21.47), with the same tracts of spatial analysis and classification of social vulnerability.
    Conclusion: the results may address to specific actions for tuberculosis control considering the early detection of the cases in the areas with higher transmission of the disease.

    Abstract O presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar a obra de José Carlos Mariátegui, em especial sua reflexão acerca da questão nacional, através da contendas literárias e intelectuais em que autor esteve envolvido. Nesse sentido, serão valorizados não somente seus textos, como também o diálogo existente entre seus contemporâneos e, além disso, o debate existente na intelectualidade latino-americana que o precedeu, inserindo a obra do autor dentro de um contexto mais amplo do pensamento social latino-americano, afim de ressaltar tanto o caldo político e cultural no qual esteve submerso quanto identificar o impacto de sua contribuição naquela época.

    Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between depressive symptoms and root caries among independent-living older persons. All community-dwelling older adults (not hospitalized and not bedridden) living in Carlos Barbosa, RS, Brazil, were invited to participate, and 785 completed the study protocol (standardized questionnaire assessing socio-demographic information and health behavior, Geriatric Depression Scale [GDS] - brief version, and oral examination [DMFT-Root index, Visible Plaque Index and stimulated salivary flow]). Out of them, 390 participants with at least one natural tooth were included in the present analysis. The outcome of interest was the ratio between the number of decayed roots and the number of roots at risk. The association between independent variables (depression and socioeconomic aspects) and the outcome was assessed using negative binomial regression models.
    Results: The final, fully adjusted model revealed that age (β=0.03, p=0.001), female sex (β=-0.23, p=0.08), living in a rural area (β=0.25, p=0.008), tooth brushing frequency (β=0.43, p=0.025) and stimulated salivary flow (β=-0.012, p<0.0001) were significantly associated with the presence of root caries. In addition, the interaction between male sex and the presence of depression symptoms (β=-0.99, p=0.012) was also independently and significantly associated with root caries. The interaction between male sex and depression symptoms was associated with root caries, suggesting that psychological mechanisms may be involved indirectly in the development of root caries in older adults.

    Abstract Este artigo discute as relações entre História e Memória, tomando como objeto as entrevistas concedidas por Luiz Carlos Prestes, antigo secretário-geral do Partido Comunista Brasileiro (PCB), sobre a Insurreição de novembro de 1935. A partir deste escopo, confrontam-se os testemunhos do dirigente acerca do levante com outros indícios históricos, evidenciados por Pinheiro (1992), Vianna (2007) e Waack (1993). Finalmente, à luz das reflexões esboçadas por Pollak (1989), Rousso (1998) e Burke (2000) analisam-se as implicações dos depoimentos de Prestes sobre a “Revolta Vermelha” para a memória comunista e a historiografia brasileira.

    Abstract O presente artigo tem por objetivo abordar alguns aspectos da vida dos agentes comunitários de saúde do município de São Carlos, São Paulo. Utilizou-se para a construção deste estudo a pesquisa qualitativa, com a aplicação da entrevista semiestruturada e análise temática de conteúdo. Quatro categorias resultaram da análise: como vejo meu trabalho; dificuldades e facilidades de morar no bairro; o ACS em seus diferentes papéis; e, por fim, qualidade de vida: a vida como ela é. A aproximação com a realidade estudada possibilitou perceber o agente comunitário de saúde para além da dimensão trabalho e destacar os aspectos que o particularizam e diferenciam dos demais profissionais do Sistema Único de Saúde, a saber: ser trabalhador, morador e usuário. Concluímos que o agente comunitário de saúde precisa ser compreendido na singularidade que a profissão apresenta, proporcionando o fortalecimento pessoal e profissional cotidiano.
