Abstract Uncertainties in the sector were exacerbated by potential deficiencies in equipment, eg ventilators and personal protective equipment (PPE), and in ensuring sufficient staff able to rise to the challenges the virus might impose on them The Ministry of Health called on recentlyretired health workers to volunteer so the ministry could compile a list of health professionals willing to fill staffing gaps, including in the tracing centre set up to prevent/reduce community spread In the context of COVID-19, we need to keep a sense of proportion that reduces fear, stigma and scapegoating, and gives a realistic perspective on the perceived threat of infection 4 As health professionals, we need to make informed decisions about the focus, energy and resources required to cope with the very real demands of the pandemic

Abstract Uncertainty has been shown to reduce the willingness to cooperate in various social dilemmas and negatively affect prosocial behavior. However, some studies showed that uncertainty does not always decrease prosocial behavior, depending on the type of uncertainty. More specifically, recent research has shown that prosocial behavior tends to increase under impact uncertainty-uncertainty about the consequences for others if they become infected. In addition, researchers have argued that intuition favors prosocial behavior while deliberation leads to selfish behavior. Our study explored how intuitive (time pressure) or deliberate mental processing, under outcome, or impact uncertainty affect prosocial behavior in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our sample consists of 496 participants, and we used a 4 (COVID-19 scenario: Control vs. Impact Uncertainty vs. Worst-Case vs. Indirect Transmission) by 2 (decision time: time delay vs. time pressure) between-subjects design. Results suggest that participants are more inclined to stay at home (prosocial intention) when forced to make their decisions intuitively rather than deliberately. Additionally, we found that uncertainty does not always decrease prosocial behavior. It seems that uncertainty does not affect the prosocial intention in a scenario with a real infectious disease. These findings suggest that the distinction between outcome and impact uncertainty may be due to the realism of experimental stimuli interventions.

Abstract This paper examines the effectiveness of the monetary policies undertaken by the central bank on economic growth during COVID-19 uncertainty in case of India and Indonesia. We use an innovative framework of Growth-at-Risk as oppose to standard macroeconomic models, which can predict the growth in a much robust way particularly when an economy is facing shocks like COVID-19. The empirical results based on Growth-at-Risk model clearly reveal that effect of COVID-19 pandemic on economic growth is much adverse in comparison to actual declines. Further, this study shows the effectiveness of monetary and financial policies undertaken by the central banks of both India and Indonesia, which have actually subsided the adverse impact of COVID-19.

Abstract The energy market is extremely vulnerable to the uncertainty caused by the pandemic and leads to global lockdowns and stagnant economic activity. This study is important because energy prices (EPs) experience a dramatic decline due to the pandemic, which has negative consequences for the global economy. We aim to analyze EPs behaviour to coronavirus (COVID-19) from 2020:01 to 2021:05. The finding shows that EPs are extremely vulnerable to the uncertainty produced by the pandemic in the short run. The COVID-19 has a negative effect on EPs in the medium to upper quantile, which suggests that higher uncertainty caused by the pandemic results in rapid decline. However, the impact of the COVID-19 is greater on the oil prices (OPs) as compared to the natural gas (NGP) and the heating oil price (HOP). Moreover, the finding reveals that COVID-19 impact on EPs are consistently negative across all the quantile. The degree of the impact increases when the relationship changes from short to long run. The pandemic has affected the energy price in the short run, which needs prudent policies to fully grasp the magnitude of the COVID-19 impact on energy prices.

Proximity with patients and predominance of aerosol-generating procedures has raised concerns regarding the safety of dentists and patients alike. The near-total, yet inevitable, suspension of dental practice has raised several ethical issues.
