Abstract Abstract The rapid and abrupt transmission pattern of the SARS-CoV-2 unleashed the current COVID-19 pandemic, as recognized by the World Health Organization in March 2020. Considering the high risk of transmission of the virus in dental environments and the specificities in clinical practice, COVID-19 posed immediate challenges for dental care and education. Due to the need to establish infection prevention and control guidance in dental health settings to enable a safe clinical practice, this review aims to list the challenges and perspectives in managing dental care in services and schools. This review employed materials collected from PubMed and the main guidelines and studies on the novel coronavirus to provide an overview of the clinical procedures and decisions made by health care personnel in dental offices and dental schools. We expect the COVID-19 scenario to promote significant changes in clinical practice and dental education; dentists should seek specific and particular regulations for dental practice established by their state or country. Biosafety checklists are strongly recommended for appointments at dental services and face-to-face activities in dental schools.

Abstract Aim and Objective: One of the challenges we are currently facing is the COVID-19 pandemic. With its rapid spread around the world, it has become an unprecedented major health, human, and financial crisis. The saliva of COVID-19 patients contains the virus that can be transmitted. Various studies have shown the effect of mouthwashes in reducing the rate of transmission of the virus and, consequently, reducing the likelihood of infection. Therefore, we considered it important to examine the effect of using different mouthwashes by studying the existing data and articles. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted by the review method. The keywords “coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19, mouthwash, hydrogen Peroxide, chlorhexidine, povidone- iodine, cetylpyridinium chloride” were searched in articles and protocols in the following databases: PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Dimensions. The searched articles were submitted from January 2019 to April 2021. Only the articles in English were studied. Results: Among 23 reviewed studies, there were 15 review study, 4 in vitro study, two clinical trial, one letter to the editor in chief, and two studies that are, in fact, instructions of Australian and American dental community. 4 studies were published in 2021, 18 articles in 2020, and 1 article in 2019. By investigating 16 reports, Povidone-Iodine mouth wash was the most effective mouthwash ever mentioned. Hydrogen peroxide mouth rinse with nine mentions, chlorohexidine with seven mentions, cetylpyridinium chloride with four mentions, Essential oils with three mentions, and mouth rinses contains Citrox and beta-cyclodextrin, and Methylene blue with one mention was ranked next. Generally, most of the studies have recommended mouth rinses use in patients in dental clinics (or other recipients of health care services). They have emphasized their effectiveness in reducing the viral load in saliva and oral secretions. Conclusion: The results of the review showed that povidone-iodine mouthwash and hydrogen peroxide mouthwash can be ...

Abstract Dental institutions in the United States are reeling from the consequences of the novel SARS-CoV2 coronavirus, the causative agent of CODIV-19. As oral health care providers, we have been trained on prevention of aerosol transmissible diseases, but we are still grappling with many unknown factors regarding COVID-19. While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), American Dental Association (ADA), and local state agencies are releasing updates on guidelines for dentists and patients, no official information exists for dental institutions on how to effectively follow the recommended guidelines including "shelter in place" with social distancing to protect students, faculty, staff, and patients, and still ensure continuity of dental education. This article discusses the challenges that we face currently and offers some simple strategies to bridge the gaps in dental education to overcome this emergency.

Abstract The emergence of the novel 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has led to a significant challenge to healthcare professionals. Among all the healthcare providers, dental clinical setup is exposed to the generation of potentially hazardous aerosols which could be a point of cross-contamination. Dentists catering to pediatric patients need to take special precautions, as they have milder symptoms or could be asymptomatic and hence potential vectors for the transfer of infection. One needs to change the perspective to manage the oral health of children as a child's oral health presents specific problems that could be time-bound and hence need to be treated accordingly. These problems can be managed on one hand by preventive methods, and on the other by implementing specific protocols relating to the conditions that represent an emergency, or those situations that fall into the category of elective dental procedures. This article highlights the routes of transmission in a dental practice and focuses on the categorization of treatment for children based on treatment needs. It proposes a restructuring of the treatment protocol and hence shifting to minimal invasive or non-aerosol-generating procedures (AGP). These techniques are also proposed to be used even after the end of the current emergency period to minimize the aerosol splatter.
Clinical significance: The article highlights the protocol that needs to be followed after treatment categorization during and after COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract The most recent Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome has become a major global public health emergency, which the World Health Organization has identified as the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Despite international attempts to prevent the virus from spreading, the epidemic has not yet been halted. Among healthcare workers, dentists seem to be at a higher risk of exposure to COVID-19. Given the type and form of procedures being performed in the oral cavity, pediatric dentistry poses a significant occupational risk. This review article discusses the risk of infection during dental procedures, patient precautions, and infection control measures implemented during dental care in hospitals, protective measures for dental practitioners, and emergency dental treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic. And provide a variety of treatment options for children who are at risk for COVID-19, as well as precautions that must be taken to avoid cross-infections while children undergo emergency treatments in dental offices.

Abstract Aim: The novel coronavirus pandemic presented unique challenges to healthcare organisations on an unprecedented scale. Due to the cessation of routine care, the Humberside Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department implemented a telephone review service to maintain access to care. This survey study was conducted to gain feedback from patients and staff regarding the recently implemented remote telephone consultation service within the Humberside Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery unit.
Methods: A paper questionnaire comprising 16 questions was posted to 199 patients who underwent telephone review. A further questionnaire was sent via SurveyMonkey (Momentive Inc., San Mateo) to the clinicians involved.
Results: From 199 patients, 93 surveys returned were suitable for inclusion; 7 out of 12 staff replied to the survey. The results showed a high level of satisfaction with the service from both groups. There were also suggestions for future additions to the service, including use for new patient consultations, addition of webcam facilities and further streamlining of suitable cases for remote consultation.
Conclusion: Our study demonstrated high patient and staff satisfaction with telephone consultations. It showed that over one third (37%) of patients were able to be discharged via telephone consultation, helping to maintain access, free up clinical resources and reduce the need for face-to-face clinical attendance, which has been vital throughout the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. We now have suggestions for how this service can be implemented in the longer term within our department, including developing clearer guidelines for inclusion in the service and the possible benefit of video consultation.
