Abstract Blepharoplasty plays a vital role in facial rejuvenation, with direct aesthetic relation to the brow and the cheek. Upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty are indicated for the treatment of excess skin and/or orbital fat. Preoperative evaluation should include a thorough medical and ophthalmic history, along with a detailed cutaneous and eye examination. Symptoms of preexisting dry eye should be elicited preoperatively, as they directly correlate with postoperative complications. Physical examination should take into account brow position, eyelid ptosis, lower eyelid position, and cheek projection. Blepharoplasty can be performed by many operative approaches. This review highlights the standard skin-only upper blepharoplasty and lower eyelid conservative fat excision or repositioning.

Abstract Of the two common techniques of lower blepharoplasty, the transconjunctival approach is limited to young patients with prominent herniation of lower fat pad without skin excess and the transcutaneous approach to patients requiring skin excision. However, the current trends not only highlight the traditional sculpting of the three orbital fat pads in lower lid blepharoplasty but also additional relocation of the intraorbital fats for correcting the inferior orbital hollowing. The purpose of this review is to analyze the published literature on common types, techniques, indications, and outcomes of the multiple surgical variants of lower lid blepharoplasty often aimed at treating the redundant skin, steatoblepharon, tear trough deformity, lid laxity, and dermatochalasis, thereby to correct the negative vector and inferior orbital hollowing along with effacement of the lid cheek junction. An extensive survey of peer-reviewed literature published in English in electronic databases, as well as bibliographies from cited articles, was conducted. Databases such as MEDLINE PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and Embase were scanned using relevant medical subject heading (MeSH) terms. Clinical studies with a minimum of five study cases were included. Level III evidence, case reports, letters, editorials, and case series with fewer than five eyes were excluded. This article provides a concise overview of available literature and as such no meta-analysis was done due to the narrowed scope of the involved studies and the variety in surgical approaches and techniques of lower lid blepharoplasty.

Abstract Blepharoplasty is a popular technique for eyelid rejuvenation. Safe and successful blepharoplasty surgery requires a complete understanding of eyelid anatomy, careful preoperative evaluation, and meticulous attention to intraoperative detail. This article discusses the role of blepharoplasty in periorbital rejuvenation, provides the reader with an overview of the anatomy, patient selection, preoperative evaluation, surgical technique, and complications of blepharoplasty surgery. An overview of the educational process through which surgeons can learn to perform blepharoplasty is also presented.

Abstract The demand for procedures aiming to rejuvenate the upper third part of the face and the periocular region has increased in the past several years. Blepharoplasty is one of the most frequently performed procedures worldwide to date. Surgery is currently the first choice in order to achieve permanent and effective results; however, it is burdened by potential surgical complications feared by patients. There is an increasing trend in individuals to request less invasive, non-surgical, effective, and safe procedures for eyelid treatment. The aim of this minireview is to present a brief overview of non-surgical blepharoplasty techniques that have been reported in the literature in the past 10 years. Numerous modern techniques that provide a rejuvenation of the entire area have been described. Numerous less invasive methods have been proposed in the current literature and in modern-day routine clinical settings. Dermal fillers are a commonly chosen option for providing enhanced aesthetic results, especially considering that volume loss can be one of the main underlying causes of facial and periorbital aging. Deoxycholic acid use may be considered when the problem is represented by periorbital excess fat deposits. The simultaneous excess and loss of elasticity of the skin can be assessed with techniques such as lasers and plasma exeresis. Furthermore, techniques such as platelet-rich plasma injections and the insertion of twisted polydioxanone threads are emerging as viable methods to rejuvenate the periorbital region.

Abstract Asian blepharoplasty has evolved over the years as greater understanding of the differences between the Asian and Caucasian eyelid anatomy has led to the development of modified techniques for upper lid blepharoplasty. The aim of Asian upper blepharoplasty is to create a pleasing and permanent upper lid crease. This article reviews the differences in the anatomy and the various techniques currently employed.

Journal of stomatology, oral and maxillofacial surgery

Abstract: ... to provide an overview of the supramuscular upper blepharoplasty approach (SUBA) to ORFs/LATFSFs.: Methods ...

Abstract Background: An approach to orbital roof fractures (ORFs) and/or lower anterior table frontal sinus fractures (LATFSFs) is a challenging task. The conventional coronal approach (CCA) appears to suit multiple/complex fractures of the upper face, while periorbital transcutaneous incisions (PTIs), e.g. gull wing, open sky, butterfly, and Lynch incisions, often impair aesthetic outcomes. The aims of this paper were to provide an overview of the supramuscular upper blepharoplasty approach (SUBA) to ORFs/LATFSFs.
Methods: Using a meta-narrative review study design, the investigators enrolled published data extracted from PubMed/Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar concerning SUBA to ORFs/LATFSFs. Only publications with the highest and most recent level of evidence (LoE) in English, French or German available until 6 May 2022 were included. The LoE were evaluated using the 2011 Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (OCEBM)'s classification.
Results: In total, 70 articles were included; however, most contained low LoE. Under general and local anaesthesia, SUBA to ORFs/LATFSFs can be performed safely and appeared to be superior to its submuscular counterpart in terms of fewer risks of adjacent tissue injuries, and speedy operative time (maximal 5 min. in experienced hands).
Conclusions: In contrast to CCA and PTIs, the SUBA is a minimally invasive approach to the ORF/LATFSF with favourable aesthetic outcomes, direct visualisation of the fracture, quick operative time, rare complications, and easy learning.
