Abstract Intramuscular fat (IMF) is the main determinant of the economic value of domestic animal meat, and has a vital impact on the sensory quality characteristics, while the content of IMF is mainly determined by the size and number of intramuscular adipocytes. In recent years, due to the development of sequencing technology and omics technology, a large number of non-coding RNAs have been identified in intramuscular adipocytes. Non-coding RNAs are a kind of RNA regulatory factors with biological functions but without translation function, which mainly include microRNAs (miRNAs), long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and circular RNAs (circRNAs). These non-coding RNAs regulate the key genes of intramuscular adipocyte growth and development at post-transcriptional level through a variety of regulatory mechanisms, and affect the number and size of intramuscular adipocytes, thus affecting the content of IMF. Here, the review summarizes the candidate non-coding RNAs (miRNAs, lncRNAs, circRNAs) and genes involved in the regulation of intramuscular adipocytes, the related regulation mechanism and signaling pathways, in order to provide reference for further clarifying the molecular regulation mechanism of non-coding RNAs on intramuscular adipocytes in domestic animals.

Abstract Alcohol consumption and metabolic syndrome(MetS), both prevalent in the general population, frequently co-occur. They are recognized as significant contributors to liver dysfunction, yet their combined effect is often challenging to delineate. This study delves into the compounding influence of alcohol consumption and metabolic disorder on liver dysfunction within an elderly demographic in Zhejiang Province, China. Our findings spotlight a heightened risk of liver dysfunction among females, younger individuals, rural dwellers, those with minimal educational attainment, single individuals, and those diagnosed with MetS. We also discerned a positive correlation correlation between the number of MetS components and the propensity for liver dysfunction. Furthermore, the risk of liver dysfunction escalated in tandem with the frequency of alcohol consumption. Interestingly, a prolonged abstinence period (≥ 5 years) seemed to mitigate this risk. Our research underscores the significance of refraining from excessive alcohol consumption, embracing a healthy lifestyle, and managing MetS components-especially triglyceride levels-for effective prevention of liver dysfunction.

Abstract In this study, sodium lignosulfonate modified illite (LS-ILT), an environmentally friendly adsorbent, was prepared by hydrothermal modification. An extensive study of Pb(II) and Cd(II) adsorption behavior and the mechanisms were conducted by evaluating the effects of initial pH value, sorbents dosage, and initial concentration of Pb(II) and Cd(II). Results showed that the adsorption characteristics of Pb(II) and Cd(II) by LS-ILT were well described by quasi-second-order kinetics and the Freundlich model, and the maximum adsorption capacity of Pb(II) and Cd(II) was 42.3 mg/g and 17.0 mg/g, respectively. The optimal application conditions for adsorption equilibrium were the dosage of 4 g/L and reaction pH = 5.5–5.8. The adsorption stability of Pb(II) by LS-ILT was better than that of Cd(II), and most of the existence of coexisting cations had no obvious inhibitory effect on the removal of Pb(II) and Cd(II). Furthermore, the dynamic adsorption results showed that LS-ILT can meet the ultra-low emission standard, and the adsorption capacity could maintain over 50% after four cycles, further providing certain guiding significance for the treatment of wastewater with ultra-low concentrations of heavy metals Pb(II) and Cd(II).

Abstract Abscisic acid (ABA) is involved in many physiological regulatory processes in plants, such as leaf shedding, stomatal closure, inhibition of cell elongation, as well as responses to multi-abiotic stress, and 9-cis epoxy carotenoid dioxygenase (NCED) is related to the indirect synthesis of ABA. However, NCED genes involved in multi-abiotic stress and ABA synthesis pathway in mulberry (Morus alba L.) are still unknown. Here, two NCED genes cloned from mulberry (MaNCED) and their function were preliminarily identified. Interestingly, MaNCED2 responded strongly to drought stress while MaNCED1 responded strongly to pathogen stress. Then, two MaNCED proteins were successfully obtained by prokaryotic expression, and the degradation products of MaNCED1 and MaNCED2 were analyzed using UPLC-MS. The results show that recombinant MaNCED1 and MaNCED2 both cleave 9-cis-violaxanthin to form C
