Abstract In the bio-based polymer industry, putrescine is in the spotlight for use as a material. We constructed strains of Escherichia coli to assess its putrescine production capabilities through the arginine decarboxylase pathway in batch fermentation. N-Acetylglutamate (ArgA) synthase is subjected to feedback inhibition by arginine. Therefore, the 19th amino acid residue, Tyr, of argA was substituted with Cys to desensitize the feedback inhibition of arginine, resulting in improved putrescine production. The inefficient initiation codon GTG of argA was substituted with the effective ATG codon, but its replacement did not affect putrescine production. The essential genes for the putrescine production pathway, speA and speB, were cloned into the same plasmid with argA

Abstract We present a search for the lepton flavor violating decays B^{+}→K^{+}τ^{±}ℓ^{∓}, with ℓ=(e,μ), using the full data sample of 772×10^{6}  BB[over ¯] pairs recorded by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^{+}e^{-} collider. We use events in which one B meson is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode. We find no evidence for B^{±}→K^{±}τℓ decays and set upper limits on their branching fractions at the 90% confidence level in the (1-3)×10^{-5} range. The obtained limits are the world's best results.

Abstract We report a measurement of the CP-violating parameters C and S in B^{0}→K_{S}^{0}π^{0} decays at Belle II using a sample of 387×10^{6}  BB[over ¯] events recorded in e^{+}e^{-} collisions at a center-of-mass energy corresponding to the ϒ(4S) resonance. These parameters are determined by fitting the proper decay-time distribution of a sample of 415 signal events. We obtain C=-0.04_{-0.15}^{+0.14}±0.05 and S=0.75_{-0.23}^{+0.20}±0.04, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.

Abstract Using the data sample of 980  fb^{-1} collected with the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^{+}e^{-} collider, we present the results of an investigation of the Λπ^{+} and Λπ^{-} invariant mass distributions looking for substructure in the decay Λ_{c}^{+}→Λπ^{+}π^{+}π^{-}. We find a significant signal in each mass distribution. When interpreted as resonances, we find for the Λπ^{+} (Λπ^{-}) combination a mass of 1434.3±0.6(stat)±0.9(syst)  MeV/c^{2} [1438.5±0.9(stat)±2.5(syst)  MeV/c^{2}], an intrinsic width of 11.5±2.8(stat)±5.3(syst)  MeV/c^{2} [33.0±7.5(stat)±23.6(syst)  MeV/c^{2}] with a significance of 7.5σ (6.2σ). As these two signals are very close to the K[over ¯]N threshold, we also investigate the possibility of a K[over ¯]N cusp, and find that we cannot discriminate between these two interpretations due to the limited size of the data sample.

Abstract A search for the flavor-changing neutral-current decay B^{+}→K^{+}νν[over ¯] is performed at the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric energy electron-positron collider. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 63  fb^{-1} collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance and a sample of 9  fb^{-1} collected at an energy 60 MeV below the resonance. Because the measurable decay signature involves only a single charged kaon, a novel measurement approach is used that exploits not only the properties of the B^{+}→K^{+}νν[over ¯] decay, but also the inclusive properties of the other B meson in the ϒ(4S)→BB[over ¯] event, to suppress the background from other B meson decays and light-quark pair production. This inclusive tagging approach offers a higher signal efficiency compared to previous searches. No significant signal is observed. An upper limit on the branching fraction of B^{+}→K^{+}νν[over ¯] of 4.1×10^{-5} is set at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract We report a study of the decay D^{0}→K_{S}^{0}K_{S}^{0} using 921  fb^{-1} of data collected at or near the ϒ(4S) and ϒ(5S) resonances with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e^{+}e^{-} collider. The measured time-integrated CP asymmetry is A_{CP}(D^{0}→K_{S}^{0}K_{S}^{0})=(-0.02±1.53±0.02±0.17)%, and the branching fraction is B(D^{0}→K_{S}^{0}K_{S}^{0})=(1.321±0.023±0.036±0.044)×10^{-4}, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the normalization mode (D^{0}→K_{S}^{0}π^{0}). These results are significantly more precise than previous measurements available for this mode. The A_{CP} measurement is consistent with the standard model expectation.

Abstract Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and collagen are the major organic components of bone matrix. However, their roles and functional relationships remain elusive. To investigate the role of GAGs in bone matrix degradation, the effects of GAGs on collagen were examined under acidic conditions that recapitulate the microenvironment of osteoclast resorption pits. We found that sulfated GAGs protect collagen fibrils against acid denaturation. Scanning electron microscopy demonstrated that collagen fibrils retain the fibril structure at pH 4.0 in the presence of chondroitin 6-sulfate. By surface plasmon resonance analysis, we found that sulfated GAGs, but not non-sulfated GAGs, bind to triple-helix type I collagen below pH 4.5. The binding of collagen in an acidic solution was dependent upon the GAG sugar chain length. Functionally, the acid-resistant collagen fibrils generated in the presence of sulfated GAGs were resistant to cathepsin K degradation in vitro below pH 4.0. As the pH increased from 4.0 to 5.0, the acid-resistant collagen fibrils were degraded by cathepsin K. Our results highlight the possibility that the interaction between GAGs and collagen under acidic conditions has a regulatory impact on cathepsin K-mediated bone degradation.

Abstract We present the results of the first Dalitz plot analysis of the decay $D^{0}\to K^{-}\pi^{+}\eta$. The analysis is performed on a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 953 $\rm{fb}^{-1}$ collected by the Belle detector at the asymmetric-energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ KEKB collider. The Dalitz plot is well described by a combination of the six resonant decay channels $\bar{K}^{*}(892)^0\eta$, $K^{-}a_0(980)^+$, $K^{-}a_2(1320)^+$, $\bar{K}^{*}(1410)^0\eta$, $K^{*}(1680)^-\pi^{+}$ and $K_2^{*}(1980)^-\pi^{+}$, together with $K\pi$ and $K\eta$ S-wave components. The decays $K^{*}(1680)^{-}\to K^{-}\eta$ and $K_{2}^{*}(1980)^{-}\to K^{-}\eta$ are observed for the first time. We measure ratio of the branching fractions, $\frac{\mathcal{B}(D^{0}\to K^{-}\pi^{+}\eta)}{\mathcal{B}(D^{0}\to K^{-}\pi^{+})}=0.500\pm0.002{\rm(stat)}\pm0.020{\rm(syst)}\pm0.003{\rm (\mathcal{B}_{PDG})}$. Using the Dalitz fit result, the ratio $\frac{\mathcal{B}(K^{*}(1680)\to K\eta)}{\mathcal{B}(K^{*}(1680)\to K\pi)}$ is measured to be $0.11\pm0.02{\rm(stat)}^{+0.06}_{-0.04}{\rm(syst)}\pm0.04{\rm(\mathcal{B}_{\text{PDG}})}$; this is much lower than the theoretical expectations ($\approx1$) made under the assumption that $K^{*}(1680)$ is a pure $1^{3}D_1$ state. The product branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(D^0\to [K_2^{*}(1980)^-\to K^{-}\eta]\pi^{+})=(2.2^{+1.7}_{-1.9})\times10^{-4}$ is determined. In addition, the $\pi\eta^{\prime}$ contribution to the $a_0(980)^{\pm}$ resonance shape is confirmed with 10.1$\sigma$ statistical significance using the three-channel Flatt\'{e} model. We also measure $\mathcal{B}(D^0\to\bar{K}^{*}(892)^0\eta)=(1.41^{+0.13}_{-0.12})\%$. This is consistent with, and more precise than, the current world average $(1.02\pm0.30)\%$, deviates with a significance of more than $3\sigma$ from the theoretical predictions of (0.51-0.92)%.

    Abstract We report the measurement of branching fractions and $CP$-violation asymmetries in $B\to \phi \phi K$ decays based on a $711\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$ data sample containing $772\times 10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ events. The data were recorded at the $\Upsilon (4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. For $B^+ \to \phi \phi K^+$, the branching fraction and $CP$-violation asymmetry measured below the $\eta_{c}$ threshold ($m_{\phi\phi}<2.85\,{\rm GeV}/c^2$) are $[3.43^{\,+\,0.48}_{\,-\,0.46}({\rm stat})\pm 0.22({\rm syst})] \times10^{-6}$ and $-0.02\pm0.11({\rm stat})\pm0.01({\rm syst})$, respectively. Similarly, the branching fraction obtained for $B^0 \to\phi\phi K^0$ below the $\eta_{c}$ threshold is $[3.02^{\,+\,0.75}_{\,-\,0.66} ({\rm stat})\pm \,0.20({\rm syst})]\times10^{-6}$. We also measure the $CP$-violation asymmetry for $B^+ \to\phi\phi K^+$ within the $\eta_{c}$ region ($m_{\phi\phi}\in [2.94,3.02]\,{\rm GeV}/c^2$) to be $+0.12\pm0.12({\rm stat})\pm0.01({\rm syst})$.
