    Abstract We investigated the polarity dependence of a capacitive energy management circuit in a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) power system. In a half-wave rectifying circuit, the Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis and analytical models show that the charge dump to the load varied depending on the polarity of the rectifying circuit even with the same charge output from TENG. Depending on the polarity of the rectifying circuit, a fast saturation of the direct current (DC) output voltage or a high DC output voltage was obtained. Experiments with a half-wave rectifier and Bennet doubler confirmed our simulation and theoretical results. The charge dump from the minimum capacitance of the separated TENG to the load capacitance and the charge dump from the maximum capacitance of the contacted TENG to the load resulted in asymmetric charging behavior. We concluded that it is necessary to analyze the TENG and the capacitive energy management circuit as a single system rather than considering them as independent units in the rectifying circuit of the TENG. This work can provide insights for the design of triboelectric energy harvesting systems.

    Abstract Better agents are needed to improve glaucoma filtration surgery outcomes compared to current ones. The purpose of this study is to determine whether mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MEK) inhibitors can effectively arrest the cell cycle of human conjunctival fibroblasts (HCFs) and inhibit the formation of fibrosis and scarring following glaucoma filtration surgery. A cell counting kit‑8 assay revealed that the MEK inhibitor PD0325901 exhibited concentration-dependent growth inhibition of HCFs. Quantitative PCR, immunocytochemistry, and western blotting demonstrated decreased expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and cyclin D1 and increased expression of p27 in HCFs treated with PD0325901. Flow cytometry indicated that PD0325901 arrested the cell cycle of HCFs in the G0/1 phase. The cell-migration assay showed that HCF migration rate was significantly suppressed by PD0325901 exposure. Rabbits were divided into PD0325901-treatment and control groups, and glaucoma filtration surgery was performed. Although intraocular pressure did not differ between PD0325901-treatment and control groups, bleb height was greater in the treatment group. Histopathological evaluation revealed that fibrotic changes were significantly attenuated in the PD0325901-treatment group compared to the control group. In conclusion, the MEK inhibitor impedes HCF proliferation via cell-cycle arrest and may be beneficial for glaucoma filtration surgery by reducing bleb scarring.

    Abstract Metal-organic cages (MOCs) have garnered significant attention due to their unique discrete structures, intrinsic porosity, designability, and tailorability. However, weak inter-cage interactions, such as van der Waals forces and hydrogen bonding can cause solid-state MOCs to lose structural integrity during desolvation, leading to the loss of porosity. In this work, a novel strategy to retain the permanent porosity of Cu-paddlewheel-based MOCs, enabling their use as heterogeneous catalysts is presented. Post-synthetic solvothermal treatments in non-coordinating solvents, mesitylene, and p-xylene, effectively preserve the packing structures of solvent-evacuated MOCs while preventing cage agglomeration.     Abstract Background: Mental disorders that follow traumatic experience may increase risk of suicidality, but a comprehensive approach to understand how these mental disorders mediate the association between psychological traumatic experience and suicidality should be elucidated. In this study, we attempted to provide comprehensive evidence on how depressive symptoms and neuroticism can mediate the association between psychological traumatic experiences and suicidal behaviours including suicidal ideation, suicidal planning, and suicide attempts.
    Methods: We analyzed 111,931 participants from UK Biobank who had completed mental health web-based questionnaire from 2016 to 2017. "Self-harm and suicidal behaviour and ideation (SSBI) score" was calculated by the response from suicidal behaviours and self-harm questionnaires. Conducting multivariate linear regression, depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, and neuroticism were selected as potential mediators. We constructed a latent class mediation model estimated direct effect of psychological traumatic events on suicidality and indirect effect of psychological traumatic events mediated by depressive symptoms and neuroticism.
    Results: Psychological traumatic events were positively associated with suicidal behaviours. Depressive symptoms and neuroticism significantly mediated the effect of psychological traumatic events on suicidality. Anxiety symptoms did not mediate the association between psychological traumatic events and suicidality.
    Conclusion: Psychological traumatic events, irrespective of life stage of occurrence, are associated with suicidality. The association between psychological traumatic events and suicidality can be partially explained by depressive symptoms and neuroticism of those who were exposed to psychological trauma.

    Abstract A growing number of educators expect that artificial intelligence (AI) will augment students' capacities and rapidly transform the teaching and learning practice. However, there is a lack of convincing evidence on the effects of Student-AI Collaboration (SAC) on a learning task's performance. A critical examination of the effects on students' learning performance is a crucial step in understanding the potential benefits of SAC on learning. Through a repeated measure experiment participated by 20 undergraduate students in South Korea, this study examined the effects of SAC on a public advertisement drawing task. The findings revealed that SAC significantly affects creativity in content, expressivity in expression, and public utility in effectiveness varied depending on students' attitude toward AI or on the level of drawing skill. Implications for the design of educational AI and AI literacy education are discussed.
