Abstract Public health doctors of Korea contributed significantly to massive coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) testing. They were immediately dispatched to epicenters of the COVID-19 pandemic, and have run tests at screening centers, airport quarantines and hospitals. However, their expertise from in-field experience has been often neglected. It is time to reorganize public health doctor system to better prepare for future epidemics. Transforming and strengthening their roles as public health experts through systematic training is crucial.

Abstract In a rapidly changing modern society, the construction industry is facing various issues, including the Fourth Industrial Revolution and climate change. Research on convergence between technologies such as artificial intelligence, AR/VR, IoT, and metaverse, and sustainable technologies such as green buildings and eco-friendly energy is being attempted in each field. The most important thing in the development of these technologies will be the interoperability of data. BIM is a technology that can effectively store data regardless of the size of a building or the amount of information and can be shared and stored without loss of data through an open format called IFC (industry foundation classes). This study aims to present a plan to generate alternatives and evaluate energy performance by analyzing the shape of the envelope for amorphous buildings through IFC. Design elements were derived through analysis of previous studies, and alternatives were automated by developing interfaces that can generate shapes according to the derived design elements. The generated alternatives can be compared and analyzed through the analysis of building energy by developing an evaluation system based on IFC. Based on the quantitative results in the initial design stage, the reliability of the design proposal considering the performance of the building is improved, and the process and cost can be predicted in advance; thus, it is expected to be an efficient decision support tool.

Abstract A 42-year-old man presented with neck pain after a fall from a tree. Spine computed tomography (CT) illustrated the right C5 superior articular process fracture without displacement. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) confirmed the fracture and injury of the posterior ligament complex. Initially he was managed conservatively with a neck brace as there were no signs of instability or vertebral body misalignment. However, three days after discharge, right shoulder weakness and numbness of the right upper arm became prominent. X-rays and CT showed anterior slippage of the C4 vertebral body and locked C4/5 facet ??a fractured bony fragment of the C5 superior articular process was pushed forward by the locked inferior articular process of C4 and invaded the neural foramen. Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) was performed using allograft and plate/screws fixation. Although initial imaging showed no evidence of subluxation, surgeons should be aware of occult instability and the possibility of delayed dislocation associated with the unilateral cervical facet fracture.

Abstract Recently, the machine learning research trend expands to the system performance optimization field, where it has still been proposed by researchers based on their intuitions and heuristics. Compared to conventional major machine learning research areas such as image or speech recognition, machine learning-based system performance optimization fields are at the beginning stage. However, recent papers show that this approach is promising and has significant potential. This paper reviews 11 machine learning-based system performance optimization approaches from nine recent papers based on well-known machine learning models such as perceptron, LSTM, and RNN. This survey provides a detailed design and summarizes model, input, output, and prediction method of each approach. This paper covers various system performance areas from the data structure to essential system components of a computer system such as index structure, branch predictor, sort, and cache management. The result shows that machine learning-based system performance optimization has an important potential for future research. We expect that this paper shows a wide range of applicability of machine learning technology and provides a new perspective for system performance optimization.

Abstract We herein report a case in which a cystic artery arising from the middle hepatic artery (MHA) was encountered during cholecystectomy. A 42-year-old man visited the outpatient department complaining of chronic epigastric pain and a laparoscopic cholecystectomy was decided upon. During the preoperative evaluation, an interesting finding was observed on computed tomography. The patient had a cystic artery arising from the MHA. An MHA derived from the hilum of the proper hepatic artery runs along the medial border of the gallbladder and enters segment IV. In the operative field, the MHA that entered segment IV was observed. Dissecting downward along the MHA, a cystic artery was observed around the cystic duct. The cystic artery and duct were isolated and each was separately ligated and cut. Rare anatomical variations of the cystic artery, as in this case, can be a pitfall inducing complications during cholecystectomy.
