Abstract: ... in sediments. The distribution of chemical fractions of heavy metals in sediment profiles from Chunfeng Lake ...

Abstract The changes of available forms of heavy metals would affect their corresponding ecological risks in sediments. The distribution of chemical fractions of heavy metals in sediment profiles from Chunfeng Lake estuary was investigated and then a prediction model for potential ecological risk index (PMRI) was proposed to forecast the changes of ecological risks caused by the aging process of metals in sediments. The results show that the estuarine sediments were polluted by As and Cd. The proportions of available metals were generally decreased with depth, while those of the residual forms showed an opposite trend. The aging rates of Cd and As were found to be 0.21 and 0.12%/year, respectively. The PMRI model showed that the total ecological risk of metals in sediments decreased from moderate to low risk level (<150) after 25 years, while cadmium would need 47 years in contrast to the 15 years for As.

Abstract Electrospun fibers have received wide attention in various fields ranging from the environment and healthcare to energy. However, nearly all electrospun fibers suffer from a pseudonanoscale diameter, resulting in fabricated membranes with a large pore size and limited separation performance. Herein, we report a novel strategy based on manipulating the equilibrium of stretch deformation and phase separation of electrospun jets to develop true-nanoscale fibers for effective selective separation. The obtained fibers present true-nanoscale diameters (∼67 nm), 1 order of magnitude less than those of common electrospun fibers, which endows the resultant membranes with remarkable nanostructural characteristics and separation performances in areas of protective textiles (waterproofness of 113 kPa and breathability of 4.1 kg m

Abstract Background: Non-small lung cancer ranks first in the cancer-related death of all malignant tumors. Exploring novel biological targets is of great significance for diagnosis and therapy of NSCLC.
Objective: In this study, we aimed to explore the effect of LINC00668 on the biological functions of NSCLC cells and the underlying mechanism.
Methods: RT-qPCR assays and western blot assays were utilized to estimate the relative gene expression at mRNA and protein levels, respectively. CCK8, colony formation, wound healing, transwell, and cell apoptosis assays were employed to assess cell function. IHC and FISH assays were used to determine the gene expression in NSCLC tissues. RIP and dual-luciferase assays were conducted to validate the combination between LINC00668 and miR-518c-3p. The correlation of expression between miR-518c-3p and LINC00668 or TRIP4 was determined by Pearson correlation analysis.
Results: LINC00668 was aberrantly upregulated in NSCLC tumor tissues and cell lines. Inhibition of LINC00668 significantly suppressed tumor proliferation, migration, invasion and promoted cell apoptosis. Mechanistically, LINC00668 could bind to miR-518c-3p, thus targeting the 3'UTR of TRIP4. TRIP4 overexpression rescued the weakened cell function mediated by LINC00668 silencing.
Conclusions: LINC00668 acted as an oncogene in NSCLC progression through miR-518c-3p/TRIP4 axis. Our study disclosed a new mechanism of LINC00668 functioned in NSCLC and may give a deeper insight of the targeted therapy of NSCLC in the future.
