Abstract The global consumption of meat products is on the rise, leading to concerns about sustainability, fat content, and shelf life. Synthetic additives and preservatives used to extend the shelf life of meat often have negative health and environmental implications. Natural polysaccharides such as seed gums possess unique techno-functional properties, including water holding capacity, emulsifying, and film forming, offering potential alternatives in meat processing and preservation. This study explores the use of gums in meat and meat product processing and preservation. The water holding and emulsifying properties of gums can potentially bind fat and reduce overall lipid content, while their antimicrobial and film-forming properties can inhibit the microbial growth and reduce oxidation, thereby extending the shelf life. Incorporating gums as a fat replacer and edible coating shows promise for reducing fat content and extending the shelf life of meat and meat products.

Results: Mean (SD) of pain intensity after intervention in experimental and control groups within 4, 8, and 12 hours after surgery was 7.30 (1.23) vs. 7.90 (0.99), 5.30 (0.98) versus 5.53 (0.68) and 2.53 (0.9) vs. 3.60 (0.77) respectively. The findings indicated that there was a significant difference in mean pain intensity between the experimental and control groups at 4 and 12 hours after surgery. Use of analysis of variance with repeated measures test with taking into account the interaction of time and group also showed a significant difference in mean pain intensity between the two experimental and control groups.

Abstract Introduction: Postoperative pain is one of the most common physiological and psychological stress in patients that disrupts body function and can endanger patients’ health. This study aims to determine the effect of aromatherapy with Citrus aurantium essential on pain after orthopedic surgery. Methods: This randomized clinical trial was performed on 60 candidates for orthopedic surgery. Patients were selected through convenience sampling and divided into intervention and control groups through randomized block allocation. If the visual analogue scale (VAS) score was above 3, patients in the intervention group received aromatherapy with C. aurantium essential and the patients in the control group received a placebo (almond oil). VAS was used to measure pain. Data analysis was performed using independent t test, paired t test, and analysis of variance with repeated measures using SPSS software version 13. Conclusion: Aromatherapy with Citrus aurantium essential can be effective in reducing mild to moderate pain after orthopedic surgery. Further studies are recommended to confirm this finding.

Abstract An internationally identified syndrome that leads to deaths between domestic and ornamental pigeons, particularly after racing is young pigeon disease syndrome (YPDS). This study was conducted to determine the status of pigeon adenoviral infection and molecularly characterize the pigeon adenovirus in Ahvaz pigeons. Sixty stool samples of healthy pigeons (young pigeons and adult pigeons) and 60 stool samples of diseased pigeons (young and adults) with symptoms of lethargy, weight loss, crop stasis, vomiting and diarrhea were examined. Samples were screened for aviadenoviruses by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay and degenerated primers set to target the aviadenovirus polymerase (pol) gene were used which was designed in this study. Screening for pigeon adenovirus 1 (PiAdV-1) was performed using a primer pair that targeted the fiber gene of PiAdV-1. Out of 120 stool samples, six samples (5.00%) were positive for aviadenovirus. The results showed that independent from pigeons' age status, 5.00 and 3.33% of sick and of healthy pigeons were positive for PiAdV-1, respectively. Genomic sequencing revealed that the viruses detected in Ahvaz pigeons belonged to the PiAdV-1 genotype. The results in pigeons revealed a 98.10 - 99.53% nucleotide similarity when compared to other strains of PiAdV-1 (TR/SKPA20, P18-05523-6 and strain IDA4) formerly deposited in GenBank
