Abstract Cisplatin is a highly effective anti-cancer chemotherapeutic agent; however, its clinical use is severely limited by serious side effects, of which nephrotoxicity is the most important. In this study, we investigated whether Qiong-Yu-Gao (QYG), a popular traditional Chinese medicinal formula described 840 years ago, exhibits protective effects against cisplatin-induced renal toxicity. Using a mouse model of cisplatin-induced renal dysfunction, we observed that pretreatment with QYG attenuated cisplatin-induced elevations in blood urea nitrogen and creatinine levels, ameliorated renal tubular lesions, reduced apoptosis, and accelerated tubular cell regeneration. Cisplatin-mediated elevations in tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) mRNA, interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) mRNA, and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) protein in the kidney were also significantly suppressed by QYG treatment. Furthermore, QYG reduced platinum accumulation in the kidney by decreasing the expression of copper transporter 1 and organic cation transporter 2. An in vivo study using implanted Lewis lung cancer cells revealed that concurrent administration of QYG and cisplatin did not alter the anti-tumor activity of cisplatin. Our findings suggest that the traditional Chinese medicinal formula QYG inhibits cisplatin toxicity by several mechanisms that act simultaneously, without compromising its therapeutic efficacy. Therefore, QYG may be useful in the clinic as a protective agent to prevent cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity.

Abstract Marine science and technology is an important engine and driving force to support the construction of a strong marine country and a strong marine province. This paper focuses on the evolution of marine scientific and technological strategy, marine survey, to sort out the development history which has milestone significance and played a major role in promoting Guangdong's marine scientific and technological innovation and development since the founding of the People's Republic of China. This paper points out the existing problems in the innovation and development of marine science and technology in Guangdong Province from the perspectives of the management system and mechanism of marine science and technology innovation investment, the introduction of high-level talents in the marine field and the construction of innovation platform. On this basis, considering the needs of building a strong marine province in Guangdong, the corresponding countermeasures and suggestions for the construction of the system and mechanism for the innovation and development of marine science and technology are put forward, creating a highland for marine science and technology talents and innovation platforms, and increasing the channels and efforts of marine scientific and technological innovation.

Abstract In recent years, due to the increase in their global popularity, short video applications have become an important topic of research. The number of users has now exceeded one billion in China; accordingly, Chinese researchers have conducted many studies on short videos. Their findings can serve as important references for both theoretical research on and the practical development of short videos worldwide. In this study, we used bibliometrics method and the CiteSpace application to analyze the content of 2163 representative research papers on short videos published in China from 2012 to 2022. The number of such papers is increasing annually in China; moreover, several core groups of authors and research institutions focusing on short video research have already been formed. Some popular topics of research on these videos include the main characteristics of short videos, phenomenon of media convergence based on short videos, and application scenarios of short videos. Over the years, research on the popular short video application Douyin has been increasing, as well. The research results indicate that issues such as the marketing of short knowledge videos, standardized management of short video platforms, and impact of these videos on the education of college students are expected to become popular subjects of scholarly research in the near future.

Abstract We empirically test whether and how digital finance impact green innovation utilizing data from Chinese listed companies and the Digital Inclusive Finance Index at the city level over the period from 2011 to 2020. The results show the following: (a) digital finance has a positive impact on green innovation, (b) improving consumer demand and strengthening market competition are two important influence channels, (c) customer concentration and corporate social responsibility are two important moderating variables that affect the aforementioned product market mechanisms, and (d) the positive impact of digital finance is more prominent within state-owned enterprises, companies with high financial risks, economically underdeveloped regions, and low-polluting industries. This research provides insights for China and similar economies on how to leverage the significant role of digital finance in achieving their net-zero-carbon targets.
