Abstract Key clinical message: Rituximab which is established as a main treatment for pemphigus vulgaris can be a potential causative factor for development of psoriasis in some patients. It is preferred to avoid using rituximab in patients who had a history of psoriasis. Acquainting medical doctors about rituximab-related cutaneous complications will help them in detection and management.
Abstract: Rituximab is a human/murine monoclonal antibody targeting the CD20 antigen on B-lymphocytes surface. Although it is used as promising treatment for pemphigus, nowadays it is also a new therapy for other autoimmune diseases including systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis, and others like non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Although there is increasing evidence regarding the safety and effectiveness of rituximab in these diseases, many cutaneous adverse effects have been reported. Here, we describe a 48-years-old patient affected with pemphigus vulgaris who developed psoriatic lesions on her on scalp, trunk, and extremities, 4 months after the second course of rituximab.

Abstract In pre-adolescence, repeated anesthesia may be required for therapeutic interventions. Adult cognitive and neurobehavioral problems may result from preadolescent exposure to anesthetics. This study examined the long-term morphological and functional effects of repeated sub-anesthetic doses of ketamine exposure on male and female rat adults during pre-adolescence. Weaned 48 pre-adolescent rats from eight mothers and were randomly divided into four equal groups: control group and the ketamine group of males and females (20 mg/kg daily for 14 days); then animals received care for 20-30 days. Repeated exposure to sub-anesthetic doses of ketamine on cognitive functions was assayed using Social discrimination and novel object tests. Besides, an elevated plus maze and fear conditioning apparatus were utilized to determine exploratory and anxiety-like behavior in adults. Toluidine blue stain was used to evaluate the number of dead neurons in the hippocampus, and the effects of ketamine on synaptic plasticity were compared in the perforant pathway of the CA1 of the hippocampus. Our study indicates that repeated exposure to sub-anesthetic doses of ketamine during pre-adolescence can result in neurobehavioral impairment in male and female rat adulthood but does not affect anxiety-like behavior. We found a significant quantifiable increase in dark neurons. Recorded electrophysiologically, repeat sub-anesthetic doses of ketamine resulted in hampering long-term potentiation and pair pulse in male adult animals. Our results showed that repeated exposure to sub-anesthetic doses of ketamine during pre-adolescence can induce hippocampus and neuroplasticity changes later in adulthood. This study opens up a new line of inquiry into potential adverse outcomes of repeated anesthesia exposure in pre-adolescent rats.

Abstract The most common variant of cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCL) is mycosis fungoides (MF). Patients with MF often experience a chronic course of disease. The spontaneous regression (SR) of MF is rare, and the factors that predict SR have not been recognized yet. Here, we are reporting a case of persistent MF who had prominent remission after COVID-19. This case report supports the possible antineoplastic effect of SARS-CoV-2. Understanding the underlying etiology of such effect can result in development of new target therapies for MF.

Abstract Background and purpose: Gavage feeding tubes increase the length of stay and reduce the growth process in neonates. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of non-nutritive sucking on weight gain and length of stay in neonates that required gavage feeding. Materials and methods: In a clinical trial, neonates were selected via convenience sampling and randomly assigned into an intervention group (n=37) or a control group (n=38). Data including demographic information, admission and discharge dates, and neonates’ weights were recorded. In the intervention group, non- nutritive sucking was performed by the mother's finger at the same time as the gavage feeding. Data analysis was performed in SPSS V20 applying independent t-test, Mann-Whitney, and Chi-square. Results: The mean weight at discharge was 90.73 g higher in the intervention group than the control group (P=0.121). The mean weight loss was found to be higher in control group than the intervention group (P= 0.818). The mean length of stay was 14.22± 8.32 days in intervention group and 14.61±7.34 in control group, indicating no significant differences between the two groups (P=0.830, statistical power=60%). Conclusion: Non-nutritive sucking had no significant positive effect on length of stay and weight gain in preterm infants. Further studies with larger sample size are suggested. Abstract Objectives: The voice quality of patients with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) seems to be affected due to lower and upper respiratory involvement. Patient-based voice assessment scales are important clinical measures to diagnose voice disorders and monitor treatment outcomes in COVID-19 patients. This study compared vocal fatigue between COVID-19 patients and those with normal voices. Furthermore, the relationship between vocal fatigue and acoustic voice parameters of COVID-19 patients was evaluated.
Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled 30 laboratory-confirmed patients with COVID-19 (18 males and 12 females) and 30 healthy individuals with normal voices (14 males and 16 females) to compare their respiratory or phonatory parameters. The Persian versions of the Consensus Auditory Perceptual Evaluation of Voice (CAPE-V) and the vocal fatigue index (VFI) were conducted before and after reading the text. The Jitter, shimmer, maximum phonation time, and harmonic-to-noise ratio (HNR) were analyzed by Praat software based on the recorded voices of CAPE-V tasks. The acoustic assessment and VFI questionnaire results were compared between COVID-19 patients and the control group.
Results: There were significant differences between COVID-19 patients and their healthy counterparts in all VFI subscales (P < 0.001). Moreover, after reading the text, we found significant differences between the two groups regarding Jitter, shimmer, and HNR of /a/ and /i/ vowels (P < 0.05). Our findings also indicated a significant correlation between symptom improvement with rest and acoustic parameters in all tasks, except the Jitter of /a/ before reading the text.
Conclusion: Patients with COVID-19 showed significantly more vocal fatigue than people with normal voices after reading the text. Moreover, there was a significant relationship between Jitter, shimmer, and HNR and the tiredness of voice and physical discomfort subscales of VFI.

Abstract Keratosis lichenoides chronica (KLC) is a rare dermatosis which represents different clinical characteristics between adult- and pediatric-onset cases. We described a childhood case of KLC with features typical for adult-onset disease. Acitretin led to partial improvement of her skin, but not mucosal, lesions.
