    Abstract With the acceleration of informatization, the spatial layout of economic activities has gradually shifted from “transportation cost + labor force” to “information + technology”. As a new generation of information, the digital economy has a profound impact on the spatial layout of the manufacturing industry. Based on the data of China’s listed manufacturing companies from 2001 to 2020, this paper aims to assess the effect of the digital economy on manufacturing agglomeration and identify the transmission mechanism of this effect. The results show the following: (1) The digital economy significantly promotes the geographical agglomeration of the manufacturing industry, which is still valid on the basis of a series of robustness and endogeneity tests. (2) Mechanism analysis shows that the digital economy promotes manufacturing agglomeration by reducing transaction costs, increasing market potential and enhancing knowledge spillover. (3) Heterogeneity analysis shows that the effect is more significant in the samples of large enterprises, high-tech manufacturing, central and western regions, small and medium-sized cities and the west side of the “Hu Huanyong Line”, which will greatly help the layout of the manufacturing industry break through the “Hu Huanyong Line” to achieve balanced development. (4) Globalization, localization and human capital play a significant positive moderating role in the process. This paper provides microevidence for the integration of digitalization and industrialization. Furthermore, it has important implications for the formulation of digital economy policy, the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry and the continuous promotion of regional coordinated development.

    Abstract The forest-landscape image is the bridge for communication between human beings and the forest. The aim of this paper is to construct the landscape-image conceptual model from the personal perception of the forest, with what people are looking at and how they are viewing themselves as a part of the forest. This research constructed a forest-landscape image by young adults by utilizing the landscape-image-sketching technique and selecting 140 young adults who had lived in Changsha, Central China for ten years, using convenience sampling, during April and May 2018. The results demonstrated that the forest was considered as the people's life world, as rural scenery around the respondents' homes, instead of the perception of the objective forest, an important habitat for animals and a limited resource supplier for human living. In fact, the natural values of the forest, such as the ecological and aesthetic values, received more attention than the social ones of the forest, including the life, production, and cultural values. Finally, it is important to raise the public's awareness of the objective entity of the forest and to guide the variety of experiences for the respondents in the forest.

    Abstract Based on China’s provincial panel data from 2007 to 2017, this paper constructs a comprehensive indicator system for high-quality development of manufacturing from eight dimensions. Using the composite entropy weights method, kernel density estimation (KDE) and exploratory spatial data analysis (ESDA) to investigate its spatiotemporal evolution and spatial correlation characteristics. The results show that: (1) The high-quality development of the manufacturing industry shows a steady upward trend, but each dimension (subsystem) is quite different and can be divided into three types: growth type, flat type, and attenuation type. (2) The spatial distribution of the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry is highly consistent with the “Hu Huanyong Line”, and the overall layout is “high in the east and low in the west, high in the south and low in the north”. Seventy percent of the provinces are below the average level, with large interprovincial differences and significant spatial imbalance. (3) The high-quality development of the interprovincial manufacturing industry shows obvious spatial positive correlation. The hot spots are more active, and the spatial spillover effect is stronger—the Yangtze River Delta is the core, spreading outward in circles, and the main direction of diffusion is “from north to south”. In contrast, the cold spot area develops slowly and moves from south to north. Therefore, China should pay more attention to the “Botai Line”, which is perpendicular to the Hu Huanyong Line, and formulate differentiated development strategies to promote the coordinated development of the manufacturing industry.

    Abstract Indoor formaldehyde poses a significant carcinogenic risk to human health, making its removal imperative. Electro-Fenton degradation has emerged as a promising technology for addressing this concern. In the electro-Fenton system, ·OH is identified as the primary active species responsible for formaldehyde removal. Hence, its generation and utilization are pivotal for the system's effectiveness and economy. Experimental and quantum chemical methods were employed to investigate the effects and mechanisms of nitrogen doping on various aspects influencing ·OH generation and utilization. Results indicate that nitrogen doping synergistically enhances the generation and utilization of ·OH, leading to an improved formaldehyde removal efficiency in nitrogen-doped cathodic systems.     Abstract Background: Macrophage-mediated inflammatory response in the early post-grafting period restricts fat graft retention. Pyroptosis is a novel type of programmed cell death that extensively participates in inflammatory pathologies.
    Objectives: This study sought to determine whether macrophage pyroptosis is activated during the inflammatory phase after fat grafting and to investigate the efficacy of a pyroptosis inhibitor, disulfiram (DSF) in fat graft retention.
    Methods: We established a C57BL/6 mice fat grafting model and then analyzed macrophage pyroptosis. DSF (50 mg/kg, every other day) was intraperitoneally injected started from 1 h prior to fat grafting and continued for 14 days. An in vitro co-culture system was established in which mouse RAW264.7 macrophages were co-cultured with apoptotic adipocytes to further validate the findings of the in vivo studies and to explore the underlying mechanisms.
    Results: Here we reported that macrophage pyroptosis was activated in both fat grafts and in vitro co-culture models. DSF was found to be a potent pyroptosis inhibitor to promote M2 macrophage polarization. In addition, DSF was demonstrated to enhance vascularization and graft retention.
    Conclusions: Our results suggested that pyroptosis plays a crucial role in the inflammatory cascade within fat grafts. DSF, being a clinically available drug could be translated into a clinically effective drug for improving fat graft survival via inhibiting macrophage pyroptosis, thereby inducing M2 macrophage polarization and promoting neovascularization.

    Abstract Abstract Background The study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of COVID-19 strategies adopted by China, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea. Methods We extracted publicly available data from various official websites, summarized the strategies implemented in these four countries, and assessed the effectiveness of the prevention and control measures adopted by these countries. Results As of October 28, 2020, the growth of daily new confirmed cases has stabilized in China, Singapore, and South Korea. In Japan, the daily new confirmed cases increased sharply since it lifted a state of emergency, but case-fatality maintains at a lower level. The growth of total cases is near stagnant in China and Singapore, with a case-fatality of 5.39 and 0.05% respectively. The case-fatality rate between Japan and South Korea is identical at 1.76%, however, Japan’s growth rate of cases has increased more rapidly than South Korea. Conclusion This study found that China, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea accessed the situation within their own borders and implemented different intervention strategies to curb the spread of COVID-19 and maintain lower rates of case-fatality. China, Singapore, and South Korea adopted the containment strategy, while Japan adopted the mitigation strategy. Although Japan’s case-fatality maintained at a low level, daily new cases increased faster than the other three countries. This result indicated that a mitigation strategy could be inferior to a containment strategy.

    Abstract Objectives: This study analyzed the effects of COVID-19 non-pharmaceutical measures between China and South Korea to share experiences with other countries in the struggle against SARS-CoV-2. Methods: We used the generalized linear model to examine the associations between non-pharmaceutical measures adopted by China and South Korea and the number of confirmed cases. Policy disparities were also discussed between these two countries. Results: The results show that the following factors influence the number of confirmed cases in China: lockdown of Wuhan city (LWC); establishment of a Leading Group by the Central Government; raising the public health emergency response to the highest level in all localities; classifying management of “four categories of personnel”; makeshift hospitals in operation (MHIO); pairing assistance (PA); launching massive community screening (LMCS). In South Korea, these following factors were the key influencing factors of the cumulative confirmed cases: raising the public alert level to orange (three out of four levels); raising the public alert to the highest level; launching drive-through screening centers (LDSC); screening all members of Shincheonji religious group; launching Community Treatment Center (LCTC); distributing public face masks nationwide and quarantining all travelers from overseas countries for 14 days. Conclusion: Based on the analysis of the generalized linear model, we found that a series of non-pharmaceutical measures were associated with contain of the COVID-19 outbreak in China and South Korea. The following measures were crucial for both of them to fight against the COVID-19 epidemic: a strong national response system, expanding diagnostic tests, establishing makeshift hospitals, and quarantine or lockdown affected areas.

    Abstract Abstract Objective The study analyzed the common points and discrepancies of COVID-19 control measures of the two countries in order to provide appropriate coping experiences for countries all over the world. Method This study examined the associations between the epidemic prevention and control policies adopted in the first 70 days after the outbreak and the number of confirmed cases in China and Singapore using the generalized linear model. Policy comparisons and disparities between the two countries were also discussed. Results The regression models show that factors influencing the cumulative number of confirmed cases in China: Locking down epicenter; activating Level One public health emergency response in all localities; the central government set up a leading group; classified management of “four categories of personnel”; launching makeshift hospitals; digital management for a matrix of urban communities; counterpart assistance. The following four factors were the key influencing factors of the cumulative confirmed cases in Singapore: The National Centre for Infectious Diseases screening center opens; border control measures; surveillance measures; Public Health Preparedness Clinics launched. Conclusions Through analyzing the key epidemic prevention and control policies of the two countries, we found that the following factors are critical to combat COVID-19: active case detection, early detection of patients, timely isolation, and treatment, and increasing of medical capabilities. Countries should choose appropriate response strategies with health equity in mind to ultimately control effectively the spread of COVID-19 worldwide.
