    Abstract Spain’s population of people aged 100 years and over has increased tenfold since the last quarter of the 20th century, exceeding 16,000 individuals by 2019. Despite this cohort’s growth, which has made centenarians a significant segment of Spain’s population in their own right, centenarians have remained little studied from the perspective of social sciences. A key challenge for research concerning centenarians is understanding their personal experiences of reaching this landmark age; such information could help to identify the sociodemographic and psychosocial factors that enable people to live such extraordinarily long lives. Given this context, the present article describes the research protocol followed in the projects SeviCent – Sevilla Centenarian Study and C&LCent – Castilla y León Centenarian Study , which are mainstream qualitative studies of people aged 100 years and over who reside in the regions with the lowest and highest life expectancy in Spain, respectively. The general aim of these studies was to analyze, through semi-structured interviews conducted between 2018 and 2019 that were based on a biographical and life-cycle approach, the physical, social, and emotional wellbeing of a cohort of centenarians who had no cognitive impairments. Specifically, based on the experiences of applying this protocol, the present study describes the methodological considerations—research design, sampling, interview script, indicators, fieldwork, and analysis plan—that should be included in future qualitative, social sciences–focused studies concerning very old people for whom the population segment is scarce, scattered, and fragile.

    Abstract Background: Uterine adenomyosis is an increasingly frequent disorder. Our study aimed to demonstrate the presence of obstetric complications in the population affected by this condition to demonstrate the need for follow-up in high-risk obstetric units.
    Material and methods: The data for the study were obtained from TriNetX, LLC, between 2010 and 2020. The outcomes analyzed were intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), preterm delivery, cesarean delivery, hypertension, abruption placentae, and spontaneous abortion. Seven thousand six hundred and eight patients were included in the cohort of pregnant patients with adenomyosis, and 566,153 women in the cohort of pregnant patients without any history of endometriosis.
    Results: Upon calculating the total risk of presenting any of these problems during pregnancy, we obtained an OR = 1.521, implying that a pregnancy with adenomyosis was 52.1% more likely to present some complication. We found: IUGR OR = 1.257 (95% CI: 1.064-1.485) (
    Conclusion: We conclude that the review carried out and the data we obtained on increased risk provide sufficient evidence to recommend that patients with adenomyosis should be managed in obstetric high-risk units.

    Abstract El enterramiento de residuos generados en el proceso de producción de lindano (gamma de hexaclorociclohexano) en la zona industrial del polígono de Torneiros (O Porriño) entre los años 1948-1964, produjo contaminación de los suelos. Por sus características mecánicas los residuos fueron utilizados durante años como relleno en viales próximos a la zona de producción, sin que entonces la población fuera consciente de su peligrosidad. Tras actuaciones de aislamiento del contaminante, se creía que el problema estaba acotado al Polígono de Torneiros; sin embargo, análisis de aguas realizados por la Confederación Hidrográfica Miño-Sil (CHMS) en los últimos años, apuntaban la posibilidad de presencia del contaminante en los suelos de una zona denominada Contrasto. En noviembre de 2017 se declaró una situación epidémica por intoxicación con lindano originada a raíz de unas obras de saneamiento en una calle de la zona de Contrasto, detectando gran cantidad de lindano al realizar levantamientos de tierra. El presente estudio se centra en investigar la posible contaminación de las aguas de consumo de la población de Contrasto (O Porriño, Pontevedra) por isómeros de HCH, caracterizar y evaluar el riesgo de exposición de la población a dichos contaminantes mediante la toma de muestras, así como adoptar medidas de control dirigidas a garantizar la potabilidad del agua en la zona. Para todo ello se identificaron las viviendas de la zona y sus sistemas de abastecimiento de agua. Se tomaron muestras de dichos sistemas y se analizaron los isómeros de HCH en el Laboratorio de Salud Pública de Galicia.

    Abstract The main cause of fatal accidents in the construction sector are falls from height (FFH) and the inappropriate use of a harness is commonly associated with these fatalities. Traditional methods, such as onsite inspections, safety communication, or safety training, are not enough to mitigate accidents caused by FFH associated with a poor management in the use of a harness. Although some technological solutions for the automated monitoring of workers could improve safety conditions, their use is not frequent due to the particularities of construction sites: complexity, dynamic environments, outdoor workplaces, etc. Then, the integration of expert knowledge with technology is a key issue. Fuzzy logic systems (FLS) and Internet of Things (IoT) present many potential benefits, such as real-time decisions being made based on FLS and data from sensors. In the current research, the development and test of an IoT system integrated with the Java Fuzzy Markup Language Library for FLS, to support experts’ decision making in FFH, is proposed. The proposal was checked in four construction scenarios based on working conditions with different levels of risk of FFH and obtained promising results.

    Abstract Overweight and obesity in adolescents has become a serious public health problem worldwide and Mexico City is no exception. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate the epidemiological panorama of overweight and obesity related to eating habits, physical activity and the concurrent presence of depression and anxiety in adolescents from high schools in Mexico City. Anthropometric measurements were taken from 2710 adolescents from 33 participating high schools. Likewise, a previously validated eating habit and physical activity questionnaire was administered, which consisted of four different sections, where each of the sections focused on key aspects of the participants' lifestyle: (1) eating habits, (2) intake of non-recommended foods, (3) food and company environment, and (4) physical activity. Moreover, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) for anxiety and depression was applied. In this study, a high prevalence of overweight and obesity (26.5% overweight and 20.0% obese) was found in adolescents from high schools in Mexico City. Only 13.14% of participants had adequate eating habits and 18.19% physical activity habits. An association was found between having inadequate eating habits and obesity in adolescent women (OR = 1.95; CI 1.009-3.76). Additionally, associations were observed between depression symptoms and obesity (OR = 5.68, CI 1.36-32.81;
