Abstract Coronaviruses are widespread in nature and can infect mammals and poultry, making them a public health concern. Globally, prevention and control of emerging and re-emerging animal coronaviruses is a great challenge. The mechanisms of virus-mediated immune responses have important implications for research on virus prevention and control. The antigenic epitope is a chemical group capable of stimulating the production of antibodies or sensitized lymphocytes, playing an important role in antiviral immune responses. Thus, it can shed light on the development of diagnostic methods and novel vaccines. Here, we have reviewed advances in animal coronavirus antigenic epitope research, aiming to provide a reference for the prevention and control of animal and human coronaviruses.

Abstract This study aimed to reveal that the effect of biosurfactant on the dispersion and degradation of crude oil. Whole genome analysis showed that Pseudomonas aeruginosa GB-3 contained abundant genes involved in biosurfactant synthesis and metabolic processes and had the potential to degrade oil. The biosurfactant produced by strain GB-3 was screened by various methods. The results showed that the surface tension reduction activity was 28.6 mN·m

Abstract The ignition of anthracite with arc plasma has not been applied due to its low chemical effect and volatile content in anthracite. The nonequilibrium plasma generated by a microwave-induced discharge has the ability to break branch chains and aromatic ring structures by kinetic effects, which has the potential for anthracite cracking and ignition. This work investigated anthracite cracking by microwave-induced discharges under an Ar/N

Abstract Abstract Private information retrieval (PIR) means a user retrieves a file while revealing no information on which file is being retrieved. In classic PIR, the user needs to wait for the responses of all the storage nodes. However, in general, there may be some nodes that are unresponsive, in which case it is formulated as v‐robust PIR in the network coding (NC) structured distributed storage system (DSS), where v denotes the number of unresponsive nodes. We consider PIR with unresponsive nodes under the framework of NC structured DSS. In particular, the storage nodes adopt combination property with zigzag decodable (CP‐ZD) storage code since it has the advantage of extremely low decoding complexity, which is promised by zigzag decoding (ZD) within a binary field. We design a v‐robust PIR scheme with its download communication cost slightly larger than existing studies, but its decoding complexity is significantly reduced when compared with existing studies.

Abstract Characterizing the topology and random walk of a random network is difficult because the connections in the network are uncertain. We propose a class of the generalized weighted Koch network by replacing the triangles in the traditional Koch network with a graph Rs according to probability 0≤p≤1 and assign weight to the network. Then, we determine the range of several indicators that can characterize the topological properties of generalized weighted Koch networks by examining the two models under extreme conditions, p=0 and p=1, including average degree, degree distribution, clustering coefficient, diameter, and average weighted shortest path. In addition, we give a lower bound on the average trapping time (ATT) in the trapping problem of generalized weighted Koch networks and also reveal the linear, super-linear, and sub-linear relationships between ATT and the number of nodes in the network.

Abstract Objectives: For patients with pituitary adenomas with an intact hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis before surgery, whether routine steroid therapy is needed is still controversial. We conducted a meta-analysis to assess the safety of withholding hydrocortisone compared with hydrocortisone in pituitary adenoma patients during preoperative periods.
Material and methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases up to November 2022 using inclusion and exclusion criteria. We employed either a fixed-effect or random-effect model for the analysis and assessed heterogeneity using the I2 statistic.
Results: Three studies involving 512 patients out of 400 studies were conducted. The pooled data revealed a higher incidence of postoperative transient diabetes insipidus in the no-hydrocortisone group than in the hydrocortisone group (RR, 1.88; 95% CI, 1.13 to 3.12; p = 0.02). The cortisol level in the no-hydrocortisone group was lower than in the hydrocortisone group after tumor removal (mean difference, -36.82; 95% CI, -44.27 to -29.38; p < 0.00001) but higher on the second day after surgery (mean difference, 4.04; 95% CI, 2.38 to 5.71; p < 0.00001). No significant differences were observed in early adrenal insufficiency (RR, 1.04; 95% CI, 0.37 to 2.96; p = 0.93), adrenal insufficiency in the third month after surgery (RR, 1.56; 95% CI, 0.70 to 3.48; p = 0.28), cortisol level on the first day after surgery (mean difference, 0.24; 95% CI, -11.25 to 11.73; p = 0.97), postoperative permanent diabetes insipidus (RR, 1.61; 95% CI, 0.43 to 6.07; p = 0.48), postoperative delayed hyponatremia (RR, 1.06; 95% CI, 0.41 to 2.74; p = 0.91), or postoperative blood glucose level (mean difference, -0.41; 95% CI, -1.19 to 0.37; p = 0.31) between the no-hydrocortisone and hydrocortisone groups.
Conclusion: Withholding preoperative steroid therapy is safe for pituitary adenomas patients with an intact hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis.
