Abstract Background: Dextran Sulfate Sodium (DSS) induces ulcerative colitis (UC), a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that leads to inflammation, swelling, and ulcers in the large intestine. The aim of this experimental study is to examine how sinomenine, a plant-derived alkaloid, can prevent or reduce the damage caused by DSS in the colon and rectum of rats.
Material and methods: Induction of ulcerative colitis (UC) in rats was achieved by orally administering a 2% Dextran Sulfate Sodium (DSS) solution, while the rats concurrently received oral administrations of sinomenine and sulfasalazine. The food, water intake was estimated. The body weight, disease activity index (DAI), colon length and spleen index estimated. Antioxidant, cytokines, inflammatory parameters and mRNA expression were estimated. The composition of gut microbiota was analyzed at both the phylum and genus levels in the fecal samples obtained from all groups of rats.
Results: Sinomenine treatment enhanced the body weight, colon length and reduced the DAI, spleen index. Sinomenine treatment remarkably suppressed the level of NO, MPO, ICAM-1, and VCAM-1 along with alteration of antioxidant parameters such as SOD, CAT, GPx, GR and MDA. Sinomenine treatment also decreased the cytokines like TNF-α, IL-1, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-10, IL-17, IL-18 in the serum and colon tissue; inflammatory parameters viz., PAF, COX-2, PGE
Conclusion: The results clearly indicate that sinomenine demonstrated a protective effect against DSS-induced inflammation, potentially through the modulation of inflammatory pathways and gut microbiota.

Abstract Biomass smoldering for rural building heating could be a potential choice for bioenergy utilization in China to reduce the pollution caused by agroresidues open burning and to satisfy the increased demand of rural building heating. Its strengths include low pretreatment, transportation, and storage fees of fuel; ease of operation; good fertilizer characteristics of ash; use of latent heat of water vapor; pollution reduction; reduction of pests, weeds, and plant diseases on the farm; etc. However, controls of the burn rate and the gas emission are two challenges of the application, and related solutions of these challenges are discussed.

Abstract Goose is a seasonal breeding animal. Its reproduction is regulated by hypothalamus-pituitary-gonad axis and also affected by environmental factors such as light and location. Zi-goose is characterized with long egg-laying period and high egg-laying potential and belongs to the long-day type of seasonal breeding. In this study, the regulation mechanism of different lighting on reproductive performance of Zi-goose by using metabonomics analysis technology. In addition, 1,481 differential metabolites were screened out totally. 583 differential metabolites were identification in hypothalamus of Zi-goose. 196 differential metabolites were identification in pituitary of Zi-goose. 692 differential metabolites were identification in ovary of Zi-goose. Under red light condition for 12 h, expression of 433 differential metabolites were down-regulated and expression of 150 differential metabolites were up regulated in hypothalamus of Zi-goose, expression of 125 differential metabolites were down-regulated and expression of 71 differential metabolites were up-regulated in pituitary of Zi-goose, expression of 355 differential metabolites were down-regulated and expression of 337 differential metabolites were up-regulated in ovary of Zi-goose. 33 differential metabolites were closely associated with 1,264 transcripts and 400 homologous genes of related enzymes in hypothalamus of Zi-goose. 15 differential metabolites were closely associated with 163 transcripts and 47 homologous genes of related enzymes in pituitary of Zi-goose. 55 differential metabolites were closely associated with 1,255 transcripts and 360 homologous genes of related enzymes in ovary of Zi-goose. It was confirmed that four metabolic pathways were closely related to light regulation of reproductive performance of Zi-goose, namely GnRH signaling pathway, prolactin signaling pathway, thyroid hormone synthesis and ovarian steroidogenesis. Typical differential metabolites of arachidonic acid, glucose-6-phosphate, progesterone, glutathione, oxidized glutathione, testosterone, deoxyepiandrosterone and their related protein genes would play an important role in light regulation of reproductive performance of Zi-goose.

Abstract To investigate the impact of the use of psychometric assessment in recruitment, the SCL-90 and EPQ personality scales, interviews and surveys were used to test 81 applicants for the selection of talented individuals with sound psychological qualities and personalities. According to the data analysis, recruits were characterized by good mental health, typically low psychoticism and typically low neuroticism, and there was no significant difference in the number of internal and external orientations between recruits and non-recruits. The use of psychometric assessment in talent recruitment can help select the right people more efficiently and reduce recruitment risk, but this work still needs to be improved.

Abstract Background: This study aims to explore the application of refined nursing intervention in patients undergoing unruptured intracranial aneurysm intervention, evaluating its impact on neurological function recovery and prognosis improvement.
Methods: Patients diagnosed with intracranial aneurysms and undergoing treatment at our hospital from February 2022 to June 2023 were included in this study. After applying complete inclusion and exclusion criteria to ensure sample representativeness, a total of 92 patients were enrolled. Using a randomization method, patients were divided into an observation group and a control group. The control group received routine nursing care, while the observation group received refined nursing intervention. Nursing effects were compared between the two groups, and statistical analysis was conducted using appropriate methods, with content analysis summarizing the results.
Results: The observation group, post-intervention, exhibited significantly improved Neurological Function Deficit (NFD) scores compared to the control group (
Conclusion: Refined nursing intervention in patients undergoing intracranial aneurysm intervention demonstrates better outcomes in terms of neurological function recovery and prognosis improvement. It reduces uncertainty in nursing practices, effectively enhancing nursing outcomes, and warrants clinical application and promotion.

Abstract China’s coastal areas are under serious threat of continued sea-level rise, and sustainable coastal development is closely linked to changes in socio-economic vulnerability. To this end, based on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change framework of shared socio-economic pathways (SSPs), this study constructed a system of indicators to assess the socio-economic vulnerability of China’s coastal areas in 2030, 2050, and 2100 under low, medium, and high greenhouse gas emission scenarios (SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, and SSP5-8.5, respectively). The results showed the following: (1) the vulnerability of China’s coastal provinces, cities, and counties shows an upward trend (ranked SSP5-8.5 > SSP2-4.5 > SSP1-2.6), which is mainly attributed to a continued increase in the exposure of socio-economic systems to sea-level rise and differences in the age structure of the population within the study regions; and (2) areas with higher vulnerability are concentrated in economically developed coastal areas, such as the Bohai Bay Rim and the Yangtze River Delta, Jiangsu, and Pearl River Delta regions, owing to their high proportions of low-lying land, long coastlines, and dense residential areas associated with economic development. Based on these results, climate-resilient solutions are needed to improve socio-economic adaptations for ongoing climate change in China’s coastal areas.

Abstract Objective To explore the protective mechanism of transdifferentiation of glomerular endothelial cells based on the differentiated embryonic chondrocyte gene 2 (DEC2) via the TGF-β/ROCK1 signaling pathway. Methods The 24 mice were randomly divided into sham group, UUO group, UUO combined with vector group and UUO combined with DEC2 group, with 6 mice in each group. A unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) model was established in each group, except for the sham group. In the UUO combined with vector group and UUO combined with DEC2 group, 10 μL (10
