Abstract: ... e.g. tree lopping and logging) likely facilitate Lantana invasion through greater fruit production ...

Abstract Lantana camara (hereafter, Lantana) is among the worst invasive alien plants spread extensively across Africa, Australia and Asia at an alarming rate, posing significant challenges to conservation of native biodiversity. While, Lantana invasion is widely recognised to be more pronounced in open-canopy habitats (including deciduous forests, forest edges and gaps), the potential role of variation in seed dispersal across habitats varying in overstory canopy cover is poorly understood.Avian frugivores are among primary seed dispersers of the fleshy-fruited Lantana. We monitored 45 Lantana shrubs across a gradient of overstory canopy cover to determine the relationship between fruiting intensity and canopy cover. We watched 80 Lantana shrubs (240 h) across a canopy cover gradient to determine 1) differences in frugivore assemblage visiting Lantana across open- and closed-canopy habitats, 2) drivers of frugivore visitation on Lantana, and 3) relationship between seed disperser visitation rate and overstory canopy cover. We found that Lantana shrubs under low overstory canopy cover had higher fruit abundance than those in high canopy cover. Frugivore assemblage differed between Lantana shrubs in open- versus closed-canopy cover habitats. Drivers of frugivore visitation on Lantana varied across different frugivore species with a greater probability of occurrence of bulbuls (the primary seed dispersers of Lantana) on shrubs under low overstory canopy cover.Visitation rates of the effective seed dispersers were higher on shrubs under low overstory canopy cover. Thus, there was greater chances of dispersal of seeds in habitats with low overstory canopy cover. The study demonstrates variable fruiting intensity and fruit removal rate as a driver of differences in dispersal of seeds across habitats. It highlights greater vulnerability of open habitats to invasion and the need to prioritise Lantana management efforts in open habitats. Anthropogenic activities that lead to canopy openings (e.g. tree lopping and logging) likely facilitate Lantana invasion through greater fruit production and seed dispersal.

Abstract Neurofibroma is a rare, benign, neurogenic tumour which may present as multiple lesions as a part of neurofibromatosis syndrome or as a solitary mass. This paper reports a case of large solitary neurofibroma of face in a young female patient. Clinical presentation, imaging characteristics and management of the pathology has been described in detail. The paper also reviews English literature for similar cases.

Abstract Abdominal cocoon is a rare condition. It presents as a thick whitish membrane which covers bowel loops. Because of this presentation, it is also called as sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis. It is usually diagnosed intra operatively. Treatment of this condition involves resection of the membrane and release of adhesions. Pre-operatively, patient is investigated for recurrent episodes of small bowel obstructions. However, preoperative diagnosis does not change the treatment and management. Investigations done preoperatively help in expediting the treatment with planned laparotomy.

Abstract The simultaneous occurrence of breast cancer and tuberculosis is rare. As there are no pathognomic clinical signs and symptoms, it can create problem in diagnosis and treatment of both diseases. A 50-year-old female patient presented with right breast lump diagnosed on histopathology as invasive breast carcinoma Grade III, with extensive granulomatous right axillary lymphadenitis due to tuberculosis. Thus, diagnosis helps in down staging of carcinoma of breast and further management of the case.

Abstract The case of an extragenital heterologous malignant mixed müllerian tumor (MMMT) of primary peritoneal origin occurring in a 76-year-old female is presented. A large tumor was seen between the uterus and rectosigmoid occupying the entire pelvis. The uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries were uninvolved. The tumor was composed of carcinomatous areas showing endometrioid and serous papillary differentiation and sarcomatous areas showing cartilaginous differentiation. The extragenital primary MMMTs of the female peritoneum are thought to originate from the secondary müllerian system. This case is presented for its rarity. To the best our knowledge, this is the first case of extragenital MMMT of primary peritoneal origin in Indian literature.

Abstract Objective: "Stroke code" (SC) implementation in hospitals can improve the rate of thrombolysis and the timeline in care of stroke patient.
Materials and methods: A prospective data of patients treated for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) after implementation of "SC" (post-SC era) were analyzed (2015-2016) and compared with the retrospective data of patients treated in the "pre-SC era." Parameters such as symptom-to-door, door-to-physician, door-to-imaging, door-to-needle (DTN), and symptom-to-needle time were calculated. The severity of stroke was calculated using the National Institutes of Health Stroke Score (NIHSS) before and after treatment.
Results: Patients presented with stroke symptoms in pre- and post-SC era (695 vs. 610) and, out of these, patients who came in window period constituted 148 (21%) and 210 (34%), respectively. Patients thrombolyzed in pre- and post-SC era were 44 (29.7%) and 65 (44.52%), respectively. Average DTN time was 104.95 min in pre-SC era and reduced to 67.28 min (
Conclusion: Implementation of SC helped us to increase thrombolysis rate in AIS and decrease DTN time.

Abstract Aims: During atrial fibrillation ablation, oesophageal heating typically prompts reduction or termination of radiofrequency energy delivery. We previously demonstrated oesophageal temperature rises are associated with posterior left atrial pulmonary vein reconnection (PVR) during redo procedures. In this study, we assessed whether mechanical oesophageal deviation (MED) during an index procedure minimizes posterior wall PVRs during redo procedures.
Methods and results: Patients in whom we performed a first-ever procedure followed by a clinically driven redo procedure were divided based on both the use of MED for oesophageal protection and the ablation catheter employed (force or non-force sensing) in the first procedure. The PVR sites were compared between MED using a force-sensing catheter (MEDForce), or no MED with a non-force (ControlNoForce) or force (ControlForce) sensing catheter. Despite similar clinical characteristics, the MEDForce redo procedure rate (9.2%, 26/282 patients) was significantly less than the ControlNoForce (17.2%, 126/734 patients; P = 0.002) and ControlForce (17.5%, 20/114 patients; P = 0.024) groups. During the redo procedure, the posterior PVR rate with MEDForce (2%, 1/50 PV pairs) was significantly less than with either ControlNoForce (17.7%, 44/249 PV pairs; P = 0.004) or ControlForce (22.5%, 9/40 PV pairs; P = 0.003), or aggregate Controls (18.3%, 53/289 PV pairs; P = 0.006). However, the anterior PVR rate with MEDForce (8%, 4/50 PV pairs) was not significantly different than Controls (aggregate Controls-3.5%, 10/289 PV pairs, P = 0.136; ControlNoForce-2.4%, 6/249 PV pairs, P = 0.067; ControlForce-10%, 4/40 PV pairs, P = 1.0).
Conclusion: Oesophageal deviation improves the durability of the posterior wall ablation lesion set during AF ablation.
