Abstract Since being reported in 1979 and 2006, indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA) tests have not been reported to detect bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) antibodies to our knowledge. Thus, we re-evaluated the efficacy and usefulness of IFA tests for BVDV serology. We tested 4 combinations of 2 antibody conjugates (fluorescein isothiocyanate [FITC]-conjugated rabbit IgG anti-bovine IgG; rabbit IgG F(ab')

Abstract Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), influenza A virus (IAV), and norovirus are global threats to human health. The application of effective virucidal agents, which contribute to the inactivation of viruses on hands and environmental surfaces, is important to facilitate robust virus infection control measures. Naturally derived virucidal disinfectants have attracted attention owing to their safety and eco-friendly properties. In this study, we showed that multiple Japanese

Abstract Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the most aggressive and lethal cancers, and developing an efficient and reliable approach for its early-stage diagnosis is urgently needed. Precancerous lesions of PDAC, such as pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PanIN) and intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN), arise through multiple steps of driver gene alterations in KRAS, TP53, CDKN2A, SMAD4, or GNAS. Hallmark mutations play a role in tumor initiation and progression, and their detection in bodily fluids is crucial for diagnosis. Recently, liquid biopsy has gained attention as an approach to complement pathological diagnosis, and in addition to mutation signatures in cell-free DNA, cell-free RNA, and extracellular vesicles have been investigated as potential diagnostic and prognostic markers. Integrating such molecular information to revise the diagnostic criteria for pancreatic cancer can enable a better understanding of the pathogenesis underlying inter-patient heterogeneity, such as sensitivity to chemotherapy and disease outcomes. This review discusses the current diagnostic approaches and clinical applications of genetic analysis in pancreatic cancer and diagnostic attempts by liquid biopsy and molecular analyses using pancreatic juice, duodenal fluid, and blood samples. Emerging knowledge in the rapidly advancing liquid biopsy field is promising for molecular profiling and diagnosing pancreatic diseases with significant diversity.

Abstract Aim: To validate the efficacy of the history, electrocardiogram, age, risk factors, and troponin (HEART) and history, electrocardiogram, age, and risk factors (HEAR) scores in a Japanese cohort.
Methods: We used the data of patients who visited our emergency department between 1 December, 2015 and 31 May, 2017. Patients aged ≥20 years who presented with non-traumatic and undifferentiated chest pain were eligible for the study. On the basis of the total score, the patients were stratified as low risk (HEART and HEAR scores of 0-3), intermediate risk (HEART and HEAR scores of 4-6), and high risk (HEART score of 7-10 and HEAR score of 7-8). The major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) that occurred within 6 weeks were investigated, and the diagnostic value and efficiency of both scores were analyzed.
Results: In total, 132 patients were included in the HEART score analysis and 220 patients in the HEAR score analysis. The incidence rates of MACEs in patients with low, intermediate, and high risks were 0%, 23.2%, and 63.6% in the HEART score analysis and 4.7%, 22.9%, and 62.5% in the HEAR score analysis (
Conclusion: The modified HEART and HEAR scores were effective in identifying patients with chest pain who are at low risk of MACEs at an emergency department in Japan.

Abstract The annual spread of influenza A virus (IAV) infection is a global concern. We examined the IAV-inactivating potential of theaflavin-concentrated tea extract TY-1, which contains abundant polyphenols, including concentrated theaflavins and catechins. TY-1 exhibited concentration- and time-dependent virucidal activity against IAV. Specifically, 5.0 mg/mL TY-1 induced a 1.33 and ≥ 5.17 log
