Abstract In order to develop an attractive generation of bulky oxadithiolate-bridged [FeFe]‑hydrogenase mimics with chelating diphosphines, two new series of asymmetrically diphosphine-substituted diiron model complexes [Fe2(μ-R2odt)(CO)4(κ2-diphosphine)] (3-5) with bulky Ph2odt bridge and their reference counterparts (6-8) with common odt bridge were obtained from the Me3NO-assisted substitutions of diiron hexacarbonyl precursors [Fe2(μ-R2odt)(CO)6] (R2odt = (SCHR)2O, R = Ph (1) and H (2)) with different diphosphines such as (Ph2P)2NBn (labelled PNBnP, Bn = benzyl), (Ph2PCH2)2NBn (PCNBnCP), and (Ph2PCH2)2CH2 (DPPP)), respectively. All the as-prepared complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR plus NMR spectroscopies, and particularly by X-ray crystallography for 3-8. It is interesting to note that complexes 3 and 6 chelating by small bite-angle PNBnP diphosphine have the favorable dibasal isomer whereas analogues 4, 5 and 7, 8 chelating by flexible backbone PCNBnCP or DPPP ligands possess the main apical-basal isomer in solution or in the solid state. Further, the electrochemical properties of two pairs of representative complexes 3, 6 and 5, 8 are explored and compared by cyclic voltammetry (CV) in the absence and presence of trifluoroacetic acid (CF3CO2H) as proton source, indicating that the complete protonations of 3, 6 and 5, 8 with higher concentration of CF3CO2H lead to two new catalytic waves for the electrocatalytic proton reduction to hydrogen (H2).

Abstract We demonstrate a novel example of tunable luminescence and the application of the delaminated FLN/OS-LRH composites (LRHs are layered rare-earth hydroxides, R = Tb, Y; FLN is the fluorescein named 2-(6-hydroxy-3-oxo-(3H)-xanthen-9-yl)benzoic acid; OS is the anionic surfactant 1-octane sulfonic acid sodium) in detecting Fe(iii) ions. The FLNxOS1-x species (x = 0.02, 0.05, 0.10, and 0.20) are intercalated into the LTbyY1-yH layers (y = 1, 0.9, 0.7, 0.5, 0.3, 0.1 and 0) by ion exchange reactions to yield the composites FLNxOS1-x-LTbyY1-yH. In the solid state, the LYH composites display green emission (564 nm) arising from the organic FLN, while in LTbH composites, the luminescence of the Tb3+ in the layers (545 nm) and the FLN in the interlayers is co-quenched. In the delaminated state in formamide (FM), FLNxOS1-x-LTbH composites display green to yellowish-green luminescence (540-574 nm) following the increasing FLN/OS ratio; while the FLN0.02OS0.98-LTbyY1-yH composites show green emission at ∼540 nm. The fluorescence lifetimes of the composites (4.22-4.63 ns) are comparable to the free FLN-Na, and the quantum yields (31.62-78.70%) of the composites especially that (78.70%) of the FLN0.02OS0.98-LYH are much higher than that (28.40%) of free FLN-Na. The recognition ability of the FLN0.02OS0.98-LYH composite for metal cations is researched. The delaminated FLN0.02OS0.98-LYH colloidal suspension exhibits high selectivity for Fe3+ over other ions (Mg2+, Al3+, Ni2+, Co2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Mn2+, Pb2+, and Cd2+) with fluorescence quenching, which can work as a kind of turn-off fluorescence sensor for the detection of Fe3+. The detection limit of Fe3+ is determined to be 2.58 × 10-8 M and the quenching constant (Ksv) is 1.70 × 103 M-1. This is the first work on LRH materials working as a chemosensor for recognising metal cations. It provides a new approach for the design of LRH materials to be applied in fluorescence chemosensing.

    Abstract Addition reaction of ArN(SiMe 3)M (Ar = Ph or 2,6 - (i) Pr 2-C 6H 3 (Dipp); M = Li or Na) to 2 equivalents of alpha-hydrogen-free nitrile RCN (R = dimethylamido) gave the dimeric [M{N(Ar)C(NMe 2)NC(NMe 2)N(SiMe 3)}] 2 ( 1a, Ar = Ph, M = Li; 1b, Ar = Ph, M = Na; 1c, Ar = Dipp, M = Li). 1d was obtained by hydrolysis of 1c at ambient temperature. Treatment of a double ratio of 1a or 1b with anhydrous MCl 2 (M = Mn, Fe, Co) yielded the 1,3,5-triazapentadienato complexes [M{N(Ph)C(NMe 2)NC(NMe 2)N(SiMe 3)} 2] (M = Mn, 2; Fe, 3; Co, 4) and with NiCl 2.6H 2O gave [M{N(Ph)C(NMe 2)NC(NMe 2)N(H)} 2] (M = Ni, 5). Treatment of an equiv of 1c with anhydrous CuCl in situ and in air led to complexes [{N(Dipp)C(NMe 2)NC(NMe 2)N(SiMe 3)}CuPPh 3] 6 and [Cu{N(Dipp)C(NMe 2)NC(NMe 2)N(H)} 2] 7, respectively. 1c, 1d, and 2- 7 were characterized by X-ray crystallography and microanalysis. 1c, 1d, 5, and 6 were well characterized by (1)H, (13)C NMR, 1c by (7)Li, and 6 by (31)P NMR as well. The structural features of these complexes were described in detail.
