Abstract Background and objectives: Testicular involvement in leprosy is neglected as it is insidious and silent, although it can have an impact on quality of life. Our study aimed at evaluating and estimating the frequency of the hormonal, radiological and clinical parameters in these patients.
Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted including 31 male leprosy patients attending our OPD. After detailed clinical assessment, patients were subjected to ultrasonological with Doppler examination of the scrotum and hormonal evaluation by ELISA technique for serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinising hormone (LH) and total testosterone.
Results: Thirty-one patients were included with ages ranging from 19 to 54 with a mean of 34 years. Decreased libido (19.3%) was significantly observed in the abnormal FSH (
Conclusion: A sizeable proportion (74%) of the study sample had testicular atrophy. The significant association between increased RI and testicular atrophy, especially in patients with infertility, emphasises the ancillary role of Doppler indices in methodical diagnosis. Risk factors noted in the study include increased bacillary index, delayed initiation of treatment and recurrent ENL. Early detection, early initiation of MDT and specific therapies such as testosterone replacement can help improve the quality of life.

Abstract The growing use of digital technologies (DTs) has a myriad of implications to socio-technical systems, which are not yet fully recognised. This paper investigates the contributions and drawbacks of DTs to resilient performance (RP), an aspect that so far has received less attention in comparison to others such as efficiency. To this end, a survey questionnaire was applied to 79 academics and practitioners linked to resilience engineering. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics and a thematic analysis of the open-text responses to the survey. Mixed impacts were identified, with 10 themes related to contributions and 16 to drawbacks. Regarding the contributions, the results highlighted the use of DTs for monitoring and anticipating system performance. Machine learning seems to be the most promising approach for this purpose. A key drawback is the need for developing new skills across the workforce so that they can make sense of the outputs of DTs and are aware of their strengths and weaknesses. The human role is expected to remain crucial for RP, which makes the current coordination difficulties with DTs even more important to address. A research agenda composed of five topics is proposed, encompassing description, prescription, and assessment. The agenda emphasizes the need for mapping the attributes or functionalities of DTs onto resilience concepts, models, and frameworks.

Abstract Introduction: Nitric oxide (NO) overproduction has been found to have neurotoxic effects on the brain. Moreover, in 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) induced, the suppression of the NO-synthesizing enzymes, such as neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) and inducible NOS (iNOS), has neuroprotective benefits in Parkinson's disease (PD). These findings imply that NOS may have a role in regulating the nigral dopaminergic neurons' tolerance to environmental stressors in PD.
Objective: In the present study, we investigated variations in the
Methods: PD patients who visited the neurology departments of several medical colleges and hospitals in North Karnataka, India, between 2009 and 2011 were included in the study. The detailed clinic pathological details were obtained from 100 PD patients. Genomic DNA was isolated using the kit method followed by the evaluation of the quality and quantity of isolated gDNA. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of exon 29 was performed, and sequencing was performed using the Applied Biosystems
Results: The present study is comprised of 100 PD patients, which includes 65 males and 35 females. There were 64 sporadic, 34 idiopathic, and two familial PD cases. The majority (67.1%) of PD cases were from metropolitan areas. Community-based segregation showed that the maximum cases were from Hindu Lingayat. A proportion (90.8%) of the patients had tremors, 32.7% of them displayed slowness in their daily tasks, and 8.1% of them had dyskinesia. Molecular analysis showed two untranslated region (UTR) variations g.151787 del T (rs1434015950) and g.151745 C>T (rs2682826) in our study group.

Abstract Aims: The aim of this study was to assess the impact of prosthodontic rehabilitation on glycemic and lipid control in functionally and completely edentulous patients with diabetes.
Setting and design: An in vivo study conducted with the intention of studying the potential link between edentulism and impaired masticatory efficiency with the nutritional status in diabetic patients.
Materials and methods: A total of 20 diabetic patients based on the inclusion criteria were selected. They were rehabilitated using a removable prosthesis, and observations were made across three parameters - glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C), serum cholesterol (S col), and serum protein (SP) at three stages - baseline, 3 months, and 6 months posttreatment. This was done to gauge the impact of the prosthetic rehabilitation on their health due to an increased masticatory efficiency potentially causing changes in dietary patterns.
Statistical analysis used: •Inter group comparison (>2 groups) was done using one way ANOVA followed by pair wise comparison using post hoc test. •Intra group comparison was done using repeated measures ANOVA (for>2 observations) followed by post Hoc test. For all the statistical tests, P < 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant, keeping α error at 5% and β error ati20%, thus giving a power to the study as 80%.
Results: Hba1c at the baseline had a mean value of 8.04%, which reduced to 7.87% at the 3-month stage and 7.38% at the 6-month stage. S col at the baseline had a mean of 151.6 mg/dL; at the 3-month follow-up, it was 166.5 mg/dL, and at the 6-month follow-up, it was 173.95 mg/dL. SP had a mean baseline value of 6.38 mg/dL, which progressed to 6.67 mg/dL at the 3-month stage and 6.97 at the 6-month stage.
Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, it can be concluded that after 6 months of prosthetic rehabilitation in edentulous/functionally edentulous patients: There was a reduction in HbA1c (8.04%-7.38%); however, it was found to be statistically insignificant at that stage There was an increase in S col (151.6 mg/dL-173.95 mg/dL); it was found to be statistically significant There was an increase in SP (6.38 mg/dL-6.97 mg/dL); however, it was found to be statistically insignificant at that stage.

Abstract Statement of problem: Natural weathering has varied effects on the service life of maxillofacial silicones due to its direct implications on the tear strength and hardness of the material.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of incorporation of nano oxides on the mechanical properties of maxillofacial silicone elastomer subjected to outdoor weathering.
Material and methods: This in-vitro study was conducted in the Department of Prosthodontics, on maxillofacial silicone elastomer samples incorporated with nano particles subjected to outdoor weathering for a time period of 6 months. Sample size of eighty-four was determined using the results of the article studying the effects of incorporation of nano oxides on the colour stability of maxillofacial silicone elastomer subjected to outdoor weathering by R.N Akash et al. in the year 2015 [(Akash and Guttal, 2015). The samples were divided into three groups. Control group comprised of 14, maxillofacial silicone elastomer without nano particles, the second group, ZnO
Results: The hardness values for maxillofacial silicone in group 3 (with zirconium silicate) was found to be 38.74 which was the lowest in comparison to control and zinc oxide groups. The tear strength of silicone specimens with 1.5 % zirconium silicate it was found to be 5.37 kN/m, which was the highest in comparison to the zinc oxide and the control groups.
Conclusions: The difference in mean hardness and mean tear strength of silicone elastomer with 1.5 % zirconium silicate was found to be, statistically significant. This study suggests that, even after being exposed to the effects of natural weathering, zirconium silicate nano particles may keep the tear strength and hardness of medical grade maxillofacial silicone elastomer up to acceptable ISO criteria.
