Abstract Attention networks show promise for both vision and language tasks, by emphasizing relationships between constituent elements through weighting functions. Such elements could be regions in an image output by a region proposal network, or words in a sentence, represented by word embedding. Thus far the learning of attention weights has been driven solely by the minimization of task specific loss functions. We introduce a method for learning attention weights to better emphasize informative pair-wise relations between entities. The key component is a novel center-mass cross entropy loss, which can be applied in conjunction with the task specific ones. We further introduce a focused attention backbone to learn these attention weights for general tasks. We demonstrate that the focused supervision leads to improved attention distribution across meaningful entities, and that it enhances the representation by aggregating features from them. Our focused attention module leads to state-of-the-art recovery of relations in a relationship proposal task and boosts performance for various vision and language tasks.

Abstract A terahertz (THz) fan-beam computed tomography (CT) system using a 0.3 THz continuous-wave sheet beam is proposed. The diffraction-free sheet beam expands in a fan shape in only one direction and provides propagation-invariant focal lines and extended the depth-of-field. The fan-beam CT based on this beam is the second-generation THz CT. It breaks the conventional 4-f symmetric structure of THz CT using the parallel beam. The fan-beam THz CT allows for use with a linear array detector, which reduces the time required to collect data. To demonstrate its feasibility for three-dimensional (3D) imaging, the 3D structure of a metal rod packed in a carton is reconstructed with the support of the system. The results show that the object's internal structure can be obtained by this new THz CT system while retaining the geometrically magnified features of the cross-sectional structure. The results of our research provide a template for the second-generation THz CT system, which provides an additional method for nondestructive testing.

Abstract In space-division-multiplexed transmission systems, it is essential to realize fan-in/fan-out devices that connect the cores between multicore fibers and single-mode fibers. In this Letter, we propose a metasurface-based fan-in/fan-out device with nonuniform phase plates for heterogeneous 19-core fibers across the full C band. Our results show that an average insertion loss of 0.85 dB and a maximum crosstalk of -25.5 dB can be achieved at 1550 nm. Across the C band, the insertion loss and crosstalk are better than 2.78 dB and -19.96 dB, respectively. The proposed concept can flexibly handle various fiber configurations without additional complexity.

  5. Book ; Online: Application of a Dense Fusion Attention Network in Fault Diagnosis of Centrifugal Fan

    2023

Abstract: ... the ability to resist noise is answered. Centrifugal fan fault data is used to verify this network ...

Abstract Although the deep learning recognition model has been widely used in the condition monitoring of rotating machinery. However, it is still a challenge to understand the correspondence between the structure and function of the model and the diagnosis process. Therefore, this paper discusses embedding distributed attention modules into dense connections instead of traditional dense cascading operations. It not only decouples the influence of space and channel on fault feature adaptive recalibration feature weights, but also forms a fusion attention function. The proposed dense fusion focuses on the visualization of the network diagnosis process, which increases the interpretability of model diagnosis. How to continuously and effectively integrate different functions to enhance the ability to extract fault features and the ability to resist noise is answered. Centrifugal fan fault data is used to verify this network. Experimental results show that the network has stronger diagnostic performance than other advanced fault diagnostic models.

Abstract There are five closed types of piezo actuators (closed type of PA, closed PA) as a cooling fan relative to those different PAJs of the previous work (open type of PAJ, open PAJ) for analysis in the present study. Closed PA was composed of circular piezoelectric ceramics (PCs) and acrylic (PMMA) plates and investigated on five different types at operating conditions. The results show that the noise of the closed PA is quieter than that of the open PAJ by about 10 dB. When the closed PA is deposed at a suitable distance of 10 to 20 mm from the heat source, averting sucking back the high-temperature fluids around that, the thermal convection coefficient is above 120% more than that of the conventional rotary fan. The cooling performances of these five closed PAs were evaluated by thermal analysis technique, and the convection thermal resistance of the best closed PA can be decreased by over 15%. In terms of energy consumption, a monolithic closed PA was less than 10% than that of a rotary fan. Among these five closed PAs, the best one has the essential qualities that the diameter of the piezoelectric sheet is 41 mm, the opening length is 4 mm, and the outer opening length is 10 mm. Moreover, the best operating conditions are a voltage frequency of 300 Hz and a release distance of 15 mm in the present study.

Abstract A nearshore terminal fan is a special water system formed in arid environments. The characterisation of its thin-channel sand bodies has long been a challenge restricting oil and gas exploration. This study takes the Suning area of the Raoyang Sag as an example and uses the principles of seismic sedimentology to conduct seismic sedimentary research on the nearshore terminal fan of the first member of the Palaeogene Shahejie Formation (Es1) based on three-dimensional seismic, logging, and core analysis. Seven fourth-order sequences (SQV7) were identified within Es1, deposited by a fluvial river system terminating at the contracting bank of a lake. Prograding terminal fan sedimentary facies on a gentle slope zone were observed in the root mean square seismic attributes after spectral decomposition. We have successfully resolved the sandstone within the studied terminal fan system using a 90° phase conversion of the seismic data and red-green-blue (RGB) fusion of the various seismic attributes. The upper subsegment of the Shahejie Formation developed extensive nearshore terminal fan sedimentation, and the seismic sedimentological response characteristics were mainly channel-like and strip-shaped geomorphic systems deposited on gentle slope zones, indicating distributary channels and distal basin sedimentation. This study enriches our understanding of nearshore fans and provides ideas for predicting favourable sand bodies in this type of sedimentary facies.

Abstract Background: For costal cartilage-based rhinoplasty, a method that could properly manage warping of the columellar strut graft and facilitate establishing a stable cartilaginous framework remains desirable. In this study, the authors present a new graft design named bilateral septal extension strut. It utilizes a pair of cartilage grafts with the shape of a fan, which are bilaterally fixated to the septum. Such "sandwiched" structure undertakes the combined functional roles of a columellar strut and a septal extension graft.
Methods: Fifty-two female patients, ranging in age from 18 to 37 years, received augmentation rhinoplasty surgery based on the bilateral septal extension strut. Among these patients, 20 of them were primary cases, 26 secondary, and other six cases were tertiary.
Results: Patients' own evaluations on the overall improvements in the nose rendered high satisfaction rate. There was no case of graft extrusion or infections. During the long-term follow-up, one case presented dorsal onlay graft warping and two cases presented in significant asymmetrical nostrils due to the deviation of the columellar at 12 months postoperatively and were corrected in the revision surgery.
Conclusions: The application of the bilateral septal extension struts can help mitigate the negative impact of strut graft warping, making it more manageable. As a result, reliable as well as sustainable support for both tip and lower lateral cartilages can be achieved in the long term.
