Abstract Rationale: Primary intracranial malignant melanoma (PIMM) is a rare malignant tumor that lacks specific clinical manifestations. Preoperative diagnosis is difficult to differentiate from meningiomas on computed tomography (CT) scans. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) usually shows typical characteristics with high signal intensity on T1WI and low signal intensity on T2WI. PIMM is highly invasive, insensitive to chemoradiotherapy, and has a poor prognosis.
Patient concerns: A 27-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital with a headache for 10 days. She did not experience nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or any other discomfort. A computerized tomography (CT) scan demonstrated a high-density mass in the left cerebellum with patchy calcification at the posterior edge, and heterogeneous enhancement was observed on a contrast-enhanced scan. MRI revealed typical characteristics of high signal intensity on T1WI and low signal intensity on T2WI. The signal characteristics of FLAIR were similar to those of T2WI, and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) sequence showed limited diffusion of the tumor. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy revealed increased choline (Cho) and decreased creatine (Cr) and N-acetyl aspartate (Naa) in the tumor.
Interventions: The patient underwent tumor resection and postoperative chemoradiotherapy and immunotherapy.
Pathological diagnosis: Histological and Immunohistochemistry (IHC) tests confirmed the diagnosis of PIMM. In addition, genetic testing revealed GNAQ gene variation.
Outcomes: No recurrence or complications were observed during the follow-up for 6 months.
Lessons: PIMM is rare, and its pathological diagnosis should be closely combined with clinical and medical history. GNAQ is a common variant of PIMM and is expected to be a therapeutic target.

Abstract With the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) all over the world, there is an increasing number of children with such infection. Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), one of the binding sites for SARS-CoV-2 infection in humans, can bind to viral spike proteins, allowing transmembrane serine protease (TMPRSS2) to activate S-protein to trigger infection and induce the production of various inflammatory factors such as interleukin-1, interferon-l, and tumor necrosis factor. Compared with adults, children tend to have lower expression levels of ACE2 and TMPRSS2, which are presumed to be associated with milder symptoms and fewer cases in children. The article summarizes the research advances in the role of ACE2 during SARS-CoV-2 infection, in order to help understand the pathogenic mechanism of SARS-CoV-2 and provide a reference for better development of drugs and vaccines to prevent and treat coronavirus disease 2019 in children.

Abstract Semiquinone (SQ) radicals play a critical role in the long-lasting UV-blocking application of lignin, while their origin and stable structure are unclear. Here, the organosolv lignin extracted from poplar (OL-P) is self-assembled into normal micelles (LNM) with more phenolic hydroxyl groups on the surface, and reverse micelles (LRM) with more methoxyl groups on the surface. After 12 h UV irradiation, the SQ radical contents in LNM and LRM increase 33% and 78% respectively. The performance of LNM based sunscreen keeps upswinging due to radical stabilization of phenolic hydroxyl groups. LRM based sunscreen experiences a gradual decrease after reaching maximum UV absorbance due to the quick generation and over oxidation of SQ radicals. Density functional theory (DFT) simulations reveal that methoxyl groups in OL-P has bigger bond length and smaller bond dissociation enthalpy than phenolic hydroxyl groups, and are easy to form SQ radicals. The Gibbs free energy (ΔG) needed for SQ-quinone transformation is above 26.10 kcal mol.

Abstract In this paper, fully distributed containment control problems of multi-agent systems with double-integrator dynamics are investigated under directed topologies. For the cases with and without communication delay, two new fully distributed control protocols are designed, which do not need any global information of the communication topology graph. Necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained to ensure the solvability of the considered containment control problems. Particularly, for the case with communication delay, the critical value of the maximum allowable time delay of containment control is found. Finally, numerical simulations are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract Dye wastewater is a type of high-concentration, high chromaticity, and high salinity organic wastewater, which is generally treated with activated carbon adsorbent. The effective regeneration of granular activated carbon (GAC) is the key to reducing the operating cost of GAC in the wastewater treatment process. The regeneration characteristics of saturated GAC adsorbed on 288 orange dye wastewater were studied by using the ultrasonic coupled thermal regeneration method. The results showed that the regeneration efficiency of GAC adsorbed on 288 orange dye wastewater increased with the increase of ultrasound power. The optimal ultrasound frequency and regeneration temperature were determined to be 45 kHz and 60 ℃, and the relationship between regeneration times and carbon loss rate was explored. The combination of ultrasound and high-temperature heating methods has successfully improved the regeneration efficiency of GAC and significantly reduced the high-temperature thermal regeneration time of GAC, thereby reducing the mass loss rate of GAC. The performance changes of fresh activated carbon (FAC), saturated activated carbon (SAC), ultrasonic regeneration of activated carbon (UAC), and thermal regeneration of activated carbon (TAC) during the combined regeneration process were explored by characterizing the regenerated GAC. Infrared characterization showed that the C-O group of GAC was significantly weakened after coupling treatment, indicating that ultrasonic treatment can significantly enhance the desorption effect of thermal regeneration. The microjet, shock wave, and cavitation effects generated by ultrasonic treatment restore the specific surface area of GAC, mainly increasing the micropore volume and pore size of GAC, and enhancing the treatment effect of thermal regeneration.
