Abstract Purpose: Variations in nasal wall anatomy are crucial in patients with dentofacial deformities undergoing Le Fort I osteotomy. These structural variations heighten the potential for complications during surgical procedures. Hence, the study focused on evaluating the differences in the lateral nasal wall anatomy across different skeletal Classes.
Methods: This study evaluated 86 patients aged 18-43 years with different skeletal Classes. In the axial images acquired from coronal sections, two angulations and the linear distances of the lateral nasal wall were measured in Class I, II, and III patients. The measurement between the piriform opening and the most anterior point of the greater palatine foramen was evaluated in three parts regarding the osteotomy line. Differences between the skeletal patterns were analyzed using an independent sample t-test and Mann-Whitney U test with a significance level of 0.05. The intra-class correlation coefficient was calculated for inter-observer and intra-observer agreement.
Results: There was a statistically significant difference between Class I and Class II subjects regarding the anterior lateral nasal wall (p = 0.011) and anterior nasal thickness (a) (0.004). There was a significant difference between Class I and Class III patients regarding anterior nasal thickness (a) (p < 0.001) and total lateral nasal wall length (p < 0.001).
Conclusion: For instance, the measurements of Class III and Class II patients were relatively different from those of the Class I patients. Therefore, preoperative Cone-Beam Computed Tomographic analysis should be performed for each patient prior to Le Fort I osteotomy to ensure that the procedure is performed safely.

Abstract Purpose: To investigate the radiation-induced effects of Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS) for sellar-parasellar tumors on optic pathways using DTI parameters within the first year after treatment.
Methods: Twenty-five patients with sellar-parasellar tumors underwent MRI before and 3 months after GKRS, including T1WI, DTI, T2WI. Moreover, 21 patients underwent follow-up DTI 6-8 months after radiosurgery. ROIs were set on optic nerves, optic radiations, and control localizations; DTI parameters for each were calculated. Pre- and post-radiosurgery differences in DTI values were statistically compared and assessed with respect to tumor size changes.
Results: Following GKRS, DTI parameters, notably ADC, FA, and RD, showed statistically significant changes in optic nerves and anterior optic radiations. DTI changes were more significant in the group of cases with tumor shrinkage. In this group, DTI of the anterior optic radiations further deteriorated 3 months post-GKRS, whereas acute changes in DTI parameters of the optic nerves resolved within 6-8 months. DTI of central and posterior optic radiations did not differ significantly following radiosurgery; 6-8 months after radiosurgery, visual function was stable in 14 (56%) patients and improved in 11 (44%), showing no correlation with tumor size changes or DTI parameters.
Conclusion: White Matter (WM) injury in the optic pathways can be induced by Gamma Knife radiosurgery targeted to sellar and parasellar tumors. Following GKRS, microstructural abnormalities occurred in the optic radiations as well as the optic nerves within the first post-treatment year. Our findings could support modifications to radiosurgical treatment strategies to minimize the risk of permanent WM injury.

Abstract The skin of the walnut kernels can get dark during the pre- and post-harvest stages of the production. Dark kernels are less palatable for most consumers but are still edible and maybe preferable, especially in the ground form, for industrial use. In this study, we investigated the differences between oil oxidation indexes, fatty acid and tocopherol compositions of the oils, total polyphenol contents and antioxidant capacities of the extracts of light and dark walnuts. In addition, we evaluated the effects of packaging under nitrogen and vacuum-packaging techniques and storage temperature on these characteristics of both light and dark walnuts during storage for 6 months. Peroxide values and free fatty acid contents of all samples were higher at the end of storage compared to initial values, being more noticeable at 20°C than at 4°C. Increases in the free fatty acid contents were quite higher in dark walnuts than the light ones (6.1 and 3.1 fold, respectively) and the highest values of conjugated diene and peroxide were determined in the samples packaged under air and stored at 20℃. Dark walnuts had lower total phenolic, α- and γ-tocopherol contents and antioxidant activities compared to the light ones. Total phenolic and tocopherol contents decreased over time. We conclude that due to the antioxidant compounds in the fruit, oxidation parameters of dark walnuts are still acceptable at the end of 6-month storage even in the packages with air and at non-refrigerated conditions.

Abstract ABD’den sınırı geçip Meksika’ya ulaştığımızda ekonomik refahta karşılaştığımız uçurumu nasıl açıklayabiliriz? Smith’in iktisadi kuramından günümüze neler değişmiştir?

Abstract Backgrounds: In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship in pregnant women who undergo elective cesarean section between the preoperative anxiety (POA) levels and neonatal results and TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8 levels, the pro-inflammatory cytokines in cord blood.
Subjects and methods: Sixty-six volunteer patients, aged 18 to 40, who underwent elective cesarean surgery were included in the study. Trait Anxiety Inventory (TAI) was evaluated at the anesthesia outpatient clinic and State Anxiety Inventory (SAI) was determined one hour before cesarean section. Plasma levels of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8 in the umbilical cord blood were determined using the ELISA method. Fetal cord blood gas, birth weight, and APGAR scores at the 1
Results: The mean preoperative maternal SAI and TAI scores were 46.6±10.9 and 41.4±7.8, respectively. There was a significant correlation between POA and fetal birth weight and fetal cord blood TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8 parameters. The inflammatory marker levels in the cord blood of fetuses in the high anxiety groups were significantly higher (p<0.001). Fetal birth weight was significantly lower in the high anxiety groups (p<0.05), whereas there was no significant difference in cord blood gas values.
Conclusions: Our results show that an increase in the levels of TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-8 cytokines in fetal cord blood in pregnant women with high anxiety levels and this situation causes negative effects on the newborn.
