Abstract Research in clinical practice arises as a constant need for improvement to provide better care to patients, train better human resources and make a daily reflection on the amount of scientific information we receive every day. We want to reflect on how the Centro de Adiestramiento en Investigación Clínica (CAIC) from our healthcare activity changed our practice.

Abstract Before a vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 became available, several measures to control COVID-19 pandemic are necessary. Analogously, in the absence of an available vaccine, Combination HIV Prevention Programmes have consolidated a large experience of biomedical, behavioral and structural interventions suitable for several epidemiological settings. Adaptation of such experiences can organize mid-term and long-term responses to face COVID-19.

Abstract The proposed novel algorithm named decision-making algorithm with geographic mobility (DMAGM) includes detailed analysis of decision-making for cognitive radio (CR) that considers a multivariable algorithm with geographic mobility (GM). Scarce research work considers the analysis of GM in depth, even though it plays a crucial role to improve communication performance. The DMAGM considerably reduces latency in order to accurately determine the best communication channels and includes GM analysis, which is not addressed in other algorithms found in the literature. The DMAGM was evaluated and validated by simulating a cognitive radio network that comprises a base station (BS), primary users (PUs), and CRs considering random arrivals and disappearance of mobile devices. The proposed algorithm exhibits better performance, through the reduction in latency and computational complexity, than other algorithms used for comparison using 200 channel tests per simulation. The DMAGM significantly reduces the decision-making process from 12.77% to 94.27% compared with ATDDiM, FAHP, AHP, and Dijkstra algorithms in terms of latency reduction. An improved version of the DMAGM is also proposed where feedback of the output is incorporated. This version is named feedback-decision-making algorithm with geographic mobility (FDMAGM), and it shows that a feedback system has the advantage of being able to continually adjust and adapt based on the feedback received. In addition, the feedback version helps to identify and correct problems, which can be beneficial in situations where the quality of communication is critical. Despite the fact that the FDMAGM may take longer than the DMAGM to calculate the best communication channel, constant feedback improves efficiency and effectiveness over time. Both the DMAGM and the FDMAGM improve performance in practical scenarios, the former in terms of latency and the latter in terms of accuracy and stability.

Abstract A cluster of adverse events following immunization (AEFI) represents a stress test for an immunization program. The community can suspect on vaccine-related reaction leading to mistrust on the immunization program. An immunization anxiety-related reaction is one of the hypotheses to be tested and can be reasonably accepted when the vaccine-related and immunization error-related reactions are ruled out and no coincidental events can explain the cases. Immunization program approaches widely accepted to understand and respond to adverse events are root-cause analysis and systems analysis. Psychiatric cognitive frame will support the root-cause analysis assigning a causal relationship to individual temporary disorders of the affected vaccinees. Communication will focus on vaccine safety and absence of errors in the immunization program. Systems analysis addresses the whole context considering the fear spread as a systemic threat. Socio-psychological frame offers a broader opportunity to understand and respond to a specific community. Management is based on communication to change community belief in misperceptions of vaccine risks and support the idea of immunization as a causal factor, different from the vaccine. Communities can consider use of psychiatric labels, Mass Psychogenic Illness or Mass Hysteria, as an act of inconsiderateness. Labels like immunization anxiety-related reactions in clusters or collective immunization anxiety-related reactions are recommended to bridge the causal perception of the community with the result of the scientific investigation of the cases.

Abstract: The chigger species Acomatacarus coahuilensis n. sp. (Acariformes: Trombidiformes: Leeuwenhoekiidae) inhabiting the neck scales of the wary spiny lizard Sceloporus cautus Smith, 1938 (Squamata: Iguania: Phrynosomatidae), from Chihuahuan Desert Province, ... ...

Abstract The chigger species Acomatacarus coahuilensis n. sp. (Acariformes: Trombidiformes: Leeuwenhoekiidae) inhabiting the neck scales of the wary spiny lizard Sceloporus cautus Smith, 1938 (Squamata: Iguania: Phrynosomatidae), from Chihuahuan Desert Province, Coahuila, Mexico, is described herein. The new mite species is assigned to the genus AcomatacarusEwing, 1942, based on a palptarsus with 6 branched setae plus the tarsala (ω). This new species can be separated from the other species in this genus mainly based on the combination of the following characters: presence of mastisetae (MTa) on tarsus III and tibiala (φ) on tibia III, subterminala (ζ1), parasubterminala (z), and pretarsala (ζ2) on tarsus I, 2 genualae (σ1-2) on genu I, onychotriches and claw-like empodium of legs I-III, and absence of mastisetae on tibia III. In addition to the new species, the gastrointestinal nematode Skrjabinoptera phrynosoma (Ortlepp, 1922) Schulz, 1927 (Physalopteridae), was also found, which represents a new host record in the wary spiny lizard. This study reports the third species of the genus Acomatacarus recorded from Mexico and the first record of chigger mites and helminth parasites associated with Sc. cautus.
