Abstract Positive and Unlabeled (PU) learning is a type of semi-supervised binary classification where the machine learning algorithm differentiates between a set of positive instances (labeled) and a set of both positive and negative instances (unlabeled). PU learning has broad applications in settings where confirmed negatives are unavailable or difficult to obtain, and there is value in discovering positives among the unlabeled (e.g., viable drugs among untested compounds). Most PU learning algorithms make the selected completely at random (SCAR) assumption, namely that positives are selected independently of their features. However, in many real-world applications, such as healthcare, positives are not SCAR (e.g., severe cases are more likely to be diagnosed), leading to a poor estimate of the proportion, $\alpha$, of positives among unlabeled examples and poor model calibration, resulting in an uncertain decision threshold for selecting positives. PU learning algorithms can estimate $\alpha$ or the probability of an individual unlabeled instance being positive or both. We propose two PU learning algorithms to estimate $\alpha$, calculate calibrated probabilities for PU instances, and improve classification metrics: i) PULSCAR (positive unlabeled learning selected completely at random), and ii) PULSNAR (positive unlabeled learning selected not at random). PULSNAR uses a divide-and-conquer approach that creates and solves several SCAR-like sub-problems using PULSCAR. In our experiments, PULSNAR outperformed state-of-the-art approaches on both synthetic and real-world benchmark datasets.

Abstract Integrated thermodynamic system for multiple products such as polygeneration systems utilizes the resource energy efficiently. In this research paper, an advanced absorption cycle based on renewable source heat driven polygeneration is proposed for multiple products to rural communities. This cycle is an ammonia-water absorption cycle with parallel evaporators for different cooling options and the power production. Net power output is increased either by decrease of the pumping power or increase of the pressure ratio. The two absorbers, which are incorporated in the advanced absorption cycle, provides both these advantages. The rejected heat is utilised either for fresh water production, drying or domestic hot water applications. The influence of medium pressure (MP) absorber temperature, generator temperature, condenser temperature and the refrigerant flow to cooling and power sub cycle is analysed. The maximum resource utilization efficiency and system exergy efficiency of the advanced absorption polygeneration is about 22.46% and 12.26% respectively at a typical operating condition with the generator temperature of 230 °C.

Abstract The voltage dynamic recovers steady-state, transient, and dynamic responses by protecting electrical equipment against unbalances, swells, and voltage sags and provides safe operation. The existing control structures were successful in restoring steady voltage. However, the intrinsic oscillations fail to account for those that may occur while quitting the system and introducing the DVR. The work describes a simple control system for dealing with dynamic, steady-state, and transient responses and intrinsic fluctuations that provides safety and sustainability as well. This suggested control system uses an upstream disturbance detection signal as the feed-forward. The feed-forward term is accomplished by the closed loop for the feedback of the controlling signal, which decreases transient changes and enhances system response. The HHO algorithm, the most recent metaheuristic optimisation algorithm, is utilised. Using MATLAB-Simulink, the system is simulated. Performance analysis of the proposed HHO algorithm is evaluated under different SWELL and SAG conditions.

Abstract Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) is a chronic infectious disease that also causes lipid abnormalities. Limited studies are focusing on metabolic abnormalities in TB patients with Diabetes Mellitus (DM). While studying lipid abnormalities in pulmonary TB patients, there were no marked differences between serum levels of cholesterol, triglycerides, Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) and High Density Lipoprotein (HDL). However, it was suggested that increased levels of lipoprotein (a) in patients with pulmonary TB may be a risk for atherosclerosis. Aim: To study the lipid abnormalities in TB patients with DM. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Department of Pulmonary Medicine at a tertiary care teaching Institute {PES Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (PESIMSR} Andhra Pradesh, India, between October 2015 to March 2016 (six months). Four groups were made, Group I included 30 patients with TB and no DM, Group II included 25 patients with TB with DM, Group III had 30 patients with DM only and Group IV was control group with 30 healthy individuals. Lipid profile testing was done for all the participants and the values obtained were compared. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test was used to compare the means between the groups and KruskalWallis test when data did not follow the normal distribution. The p-value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Total 25 patients in group II had 18 males and seven females with mean age of 48.5±11.12 years. The total cholesterol, triglycerides, Very Low Density Lipoprotein (VLDL) was high in group III (176.33±43.35 mg/dL, 221.733±39.2 mg/dL, 34.8±17.81 mg/dL respectively). The HDL was lowest in group II (27.88±8.03 mg/dL). However, the LDL values showed no significant difference between the groups (p-value=0.162). group I had Low Body Mass Index (BMI) (18.61±3.6 kg/m2 ). The atherogenic index was high in group II especially in males. Conclusion: In patients with TB and DM, screening of lipid profile can provide markers of atherogenicity which may help to predict and prevent cardiovascular events. A good nutritious diet is recommended alongside chemotherapeutics in the treatment for TB patient’s management and their lipid profile status should be monitored while managing the patients.
