    Abstract In the last two decades, muscle synergies analysis has been commonly used to assess the neurophysiological mechanisms underlying human motor control. Several synergy models and algorithms have been employed for processing the electromyographic (EMG) signal, and it has been shown that the coordination of motor control is characterized by the presence of phasic (movement-related) and tonic (anti-gravity and related to co-contraction) EMG components. Neural substrates indicate that phasic and tonic components have non-homogeneous origin; however, it is still unclear if these components are generated by the same set of synergies or by distinct synergies. This study aims at testing whether phasic and tonic components are generated by distinct phasic and tonic synergies or by the same set of synergies with phasic and tonic activation coefficients. The study also aims at characterizing the differences between the phasic and the tonic synergies. Using a comprehensive mapping of upper-limb point-to-point movements, synergies were extracted from phasic and tonic EMG signal separately, estimating the tonic components with a linear ramp model.     Abstract Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a pandemic syndrome caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. SARS-CoV-2 infection induces a process of inflammation and thrombosis supported by an altered platelet activation state. This platelet activation is peculiar being characterized by the formation of platelet-leukocytes rather than platelet-platelet aggregates and by an increased procoagulant potential supported by elevated levels of TF positive platelets and microvesicles.Therapeutic strategies targeting, beyond systemic inflammation (i.e. with tocilizumab, an anti interleukin-6 receptor), this state of platelet activation might therefore be beneficial. Among the antithrombotic drugs proposed as candidates to treat patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection, antiplatelet drugs, such as aspirin are showing promising results.

    Abstract Background: Concern about SARS-CoV-2 infection has increased over the possible effects on immunocompromised patients. Among them, recipients of solid organ transplantation deserve special attention. Data from the adult population suggest they may be at high risk for developing severe COVID-19, but little data are available for pediatric solid organ transplantation recipients.
    Methods: From March 2020 to April 2021, KT recipients aged <21 years, routinely managed at our center, who underwent RT-PCR testing with nasopharyngeal swabs to detect SARS-CoV-2 infection, were studied. Tests were performed according to clinical and/or epidemiological criteria.
    Results: One hundred one transplanted patients were managed at our center during the observation period. Among this population, 57 patients were tested for SARS-CoV-2 infection with a RT-PCR test and were subsequently enrolled. A total of 111 swabs were performed. Twelve out of the 57 patients tested (21.1%) had a positive RT-PCR test result. Among the positive patients, eight were symptomatic (66.7%). Median duration of symptoms and RT-PCR positivity was two days (IQR 1-2.25) and 17 days (IQR 11-27.25), respectively. No patients required specific treatment or IS therapy reduction; no one was admitted to hospital.
    Conclusions: Our data show that pediatric renal transplant recipients are at low risk of clinically relevant COVID-19, as is the healthy age-related population. On the contrary, our results differed substantially from those seen in adult SOT recipient populations that have a high incidence and an even earlier and higher mortality rate.

    Abstract The therapeutic approach to patients affected by advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is facing rapid and continuous evolution. In recent years, the emergence of new treatment strategies, such as immunotherapy and tyrosine kinase inhibitors, has revolutionized the treatment algorithm and the prognosis of patients with NSCLC. In the non-oncogene-addicted disease, immune-checkpoint inhibitors, either as single agents or combined with chemotherapy, outperformed standard chemotherapy in both untreated and previously treated patients. However, many patients still do not derive the expected benefit from current treatments. Despite representing the only biomarker currently used in clinical practice to guide treatment selection, PD-L1 expression has been proven an imperfect predictor of immunotherapy outcomes. The evaluation of clinical factors remains essential to detect patients that would benefit the most from a particular treatment approach, but the identification of additional biological and molecular predictive tools is a priority. Herein, we provide a comprehensive though concise review of the current treatment approaches to advanced NSCLC in patients without molecular driver alterations, with an additional focus on special populations, concomitant medications, and other considerations that might be useful for daily clinical practice.
