    Abstract Numerical simulations and finite-size scaling analysis have been carried out to study standard and inverse percolation of triangular tiles of side k (k-tiles) on triangular lattices. In the case of standard percolation, the lattice is initially empty. Then, k-tiles are randomly and sequentially deposited on the lattice. In the case of inverse percolation, the process starts with an initial configuration where all lattice sites are occupied by single monomers (each monomer occupies one lattice site) and, consequently, the opposite sides of the lattice are connected by nearest-neighbor occupied sites. Then, the system is diluted by randomly removing k-tiles [composed by k(k+1)/2 monomers] from the lattice. Two schemes are used for the depositing and removing process: the isotropic scheme, where the deposition (removal) of the objects occurs with the same probability in any lattice direction; and the anisotropic (perfectly oriented or nematic) scheme, where one lattice direction is privileged for depositing (removing) the tiles. The study is conducted by following the behavior of four critical concentrations with the size k: (i) [(ii)] standard isotropic (oriented) percolation threshold θ_{c,k} (ϑ_{c,k}), which represents the minimum concentration of occupied sites at which an infinite cluster of occupied nearest-neighbor sites extends from one side of the system to the other. θ_{c,k} (ϑ_{c,k}) is reached by isotropic (oriented) deposition of k-tiles on an initially empty lattice; and (iii) [(iv)] inverse isotropic (oriented) percolation threshold θ_{c,k}^{i} (ϑ_{c,k}^{i}), which corresponds to the maximum concentration of occupied sites for which connectivity disappears. θ_{c,k}^{i} (ϑ_{c,k}^{i}) is reached after removing isotropic (completely aligned) k-tiles from an initially fully occupied lattice. The obtained results indicate that (1)θ_{c,k} (θ_{c,k}^{i}) is an increasing (decreasing) function of k in the range 1≤k≤6. For k≥7, all jammed configurations are nonpercolating (percolating) states and, consequently, the percolation phase transition disappears. (2)ϑ_{c,k} (ϑ_{c,k}^{i}) show a behavior qualitatively similar to that observed for isotropic deposition. In this case, the minimum value of k at which the phase transition disappears is k=5. (3) For both isotropic and perfectly oriented models, the curves of standard and inverse percolation thresholds are symmetric to each other with respect to the line θ(ϑ)=0.5. Thus, a complementary property is found θ_{c,k}+θ_{c,k}^{i}=1 (and ϑ_{c,k}+ϑ_{c,k}^{i}=1), which has not been observed in other regular lattices. (4) Finally, in all cases, the jamming exponent ν_{j} was measured, being ν_{j}=1 regardless of the orientation (isotropic or nematic) or the size k considered. In addition, the accurate determination of the critical exponents ν, β, and γ reveals that the percolation phase transition involved in the system, which occurs for k varying between one and five (three) for isotropic (nematic) deposition scheme, has the same universality class as the standard percolation problem.

    Abstract Artificial intelligence (AI) is an emerging technology that facilitates everyday tasks and automates tasks in various fields such as medicine. However, the emergence of a language model in academia has generated a lot of interest. This paper evaluates the potential of ChatGPT, a language model developed by OpenAI, and DALL-E 2, an image generator, in the writing of scientific articles in ophthalmology. The selected topic is the complications of the use of silicone oil in vitreoretinal surgery. ChatGPT was used to generate an abstract and a structured article, suggestions for a title and bibliographical references. In conclusion, despite the knowledge demonstrated by this tool, the scientific accuracy and reliability on specific topics is insufficient for the automatic generation of scientifically rigorous articles. In addition, scientists should be aware of the possible ethical and legal implications of these tools.

    Abstract We aimed to evaluate the utility of the FreeStyle Libre 2 device for reducing time below range level 1 and level 2 compared with the Freestyle Libre device (without alarms) in people with type 1 diabetes mellitus. We conducted longitudinal observational follow-up study of a cohort of 100 people with type 1 diabetes mellitus who had switched from FreeStyle Libre to FreeStyle Libre 2 as part of routine clinical practice. Three months after switching to FreeStyle Libre 2, compared with results with FreeStyle Libre, there were a significant improvements in time below range level 1 (p = 0.02) and level 2 (p <0.001), time in range (p <0.001), time above range level 1 (p = 0.002), glucose management indicator (p= 0.04) and mean glucose (p= 0.04) during follow-up. Furthermore there was a significant direct association between age and change in TIR with a coefficient of 0.23, and a significant inverse association between age and change in TAR-1 with a coefficient of 0.11. Switching to a flash glucose monitoring system with alarms improves time below range, time in range and coefficient of variation in people with type 1 diabetes mellitus.

    Abstract Hemotropic mycoplasmas (hemoplasmas) are emerging zoonotic pathogens. Micromammals have received little attention as hosts for hemoplasmas despite their ubiquitous presence, high population abundances, and close association with humans. A PCR protocol targeting a fragment of the 16 S rRNA gene and direct sequencing in blood samples of 189 adult specimens and 35 fetuses belonging to three species of Eulipotyphla (shrews) and seven species of Rodentia, captured in three ecologically diverse habitats in North-Eastern Spain (Steppe, High Mountain, Mediterranean) yielded and occurrence of 26%, including 36% of 39 shrews and 23% of 150 rodents. Sequencing revealed the presence of 14 nucleotide sequence types (ntST) among the 56 readable sequences. In general, each ntST was associated with a given host species, although in some cases, the same ntST was sequenced in different species (chiefly rodents). Most ntST were closely related to rodent and/or bat hemoplasmas, but one was identical with Mycoplasma haemocanis/haemofelis, and others can be considered novel genotypes. High sequence diversity was detected in rodents, whereas in the white-toothed shrew (Crocidura russula), 9/11 sequences from two distant areas were identical. Phylogenetic and network analyses classified our sequences in different clades including hemoplasmas of rodents, carnivores, bats, and humans. Twelve of the fetuses (34.2%) of 9/12 litters (75.0%) of shrews and rodents were hemoplasma-positive, indicating frequent vertical transmission. Our study contributes to expanding our knowledge about the distribution, diversity, and transmission of hemoplasmas.

    Abstract Introduction: Persistent congestion after heart failure (HF) discharge is associated with a higher risk of readmissions.
    Material and methods: eighty-two patients included after HF discharge. The aim of the study was to characterize semiquantitatively the degree of pulmonary congestion and its changes, describing the relationship between these findings and diuretic management.
    Results: On the first visit, despite the absence of clinical congestion in the majority of patients, half of the had some degree of pulmonary congestion by ultrasound. After global assessment in this initial visit (clinical and ultrasound) the diuretic was lowered in 50 patients (60%), kept the same in 16 (20%) and it was increased in the rest. In the 45 patients without ultrasound congestion, diuretic reduction was attempted in 80%, being this strategy successful in the majority of them.
    Conclusions: Lung ultrasound, using simple quantification methods, allows its real incorporation into clinical practice, helping us in the decision making process.

    Abstract Purpose: Rotational ankle instability is a multiligamentous injury defined as an overload injury of the deltoid ligament caused by a long-standing injury of the lateral collateral ligament in patients affected by chronic ankle instability. The purpose of the study was to compare the clinical outcomes of combined arthroscopic repair of lateral and medial ankle ligaments for rotational ankle instability versus isolated arthroscopic lateral ligament repair for lateral ankle instability at 2 years' follow-up.
    Methods: Between 2019 and 2021, 108 patients with chronic ankle instability were consecutively treated by arthroscopy. Of this group, 83 patients (77%) [median age: 26 (range, 14-77) years] underwent an isolated all-inside lateral ligament repair for lateral ankle instability (group A). In the remaining 25 patients (23%) [median age: 27 (range, 17-58) years], rotational ankle instability was clinically suspected and confirmed during arthroscopy; thus, a combined all-inside repair of lateral and medial ligaments was performed (group B). The same postoperative protocol was utilised for both groups. Patients were prospectively evaluated before surgery, at 3, 6, 12 and 24 months with Foot Functional Index (FFI) score, visual analogue scale (VAS) and Foot and Ankle Ability Measure-Sports subscale (FAAM-SS). At the latest follow-up, the satisfaction rate and complications were also recorded.
    Results: In both groups, FFI, VAS and FAAM-SS scores significantly improved compared to preoperative values (p < 0.001). In addition, according to all the scores evaluated, there was no significative difference (n.s) between groups at the final follow-up or at any of the intermediate follow-up. No major complications were observed in both groups.
    Conclusions: Arthroscopic ligament repair in case of ankle multiligamentous injuries, such as in rotational ankle instability, provides excellent clinical outcomes and is comparable to isolated lateral ligament repair at 2 years' follow-up. Therefore, when treating ankle instability, arthroscopic repair of each and every ligament that appears injured provides the best potential outcomes and is the recommended treatment.

    Abstract The co-occurrence of substance use disorders (SUD) and other mental disorders (OMD) is assumed to be high but is, in fact, unknown in Spain; and it is approached from different healthcare networks. The objective of the present study was to know the prevalence of this co-occurrence, both in specific addiction treatment networks and in mental health networks, in Spain. An observational, multicenter cross study, with a randomized sample, of patients under treatment for SUD or OMD in different Autonomous Communities of Spain was carried out (N=1,783). A specific ad hoc online questionnaire collecting sociodemographic variables, substance use and diagnoses of SUD and OMD was completed.The data obtained in the survey show a significant concurrence of SUD and OMD diagnoses (in more than 60% of the patients). A high prevalence of OMD was found in those patients receiving treatment for their SUD (71%), and also of diagnoses of any SUD (68.9%) and active substance use (50%, except tobacco) in people receiving treatment for diagnoses of OMD. Also were found significant relationships between addiction to certain substances and specific mental disorders: personality disorders with all SUDs; psychotic disorders with cannabis use disorder, but not cocaine use disorder; affective disorders with cocaine use disorder, and anxiety disorders with cannabis use disorder. This study provides preliminary information about the high coexistence in routine clinical practice of addictive disorders and other mental disorders in different treatment settings in Spain.

    Abstract Numerical simulations and finite-size scaling analysis have been carried out to study the problem of inverse percolation by removing semirigid rods from a L×L square lattice that contains two layers (and M=L×L×2 sites). The process starts with an initial configuration where all lattice sites are occupied by single monomers (each monomer occupies one lattice site) and, consequently, the opposite sides of the lattice are connected by nearest-neighbor occupied sites. Then the system is diluted by removing groups of k consecutive monomers according to a generalized random sequential adsorption mechanism. The study is conducted by following the behavior of two critical concentrations with size k: (1) jamming coverage θ_{j,k}, which represents the concentration of occupied sites at which the jamming state is reached, and (2) inverse percolation threshold θ_{c,k}, which corresponds to the maximum concentration of occupied sites for which connectivity disappears. The obtained results indicate that (1) the jamming coverage exhibits an increasing dependence on the size k-it rapidly increases for small values of k and asymptotically converges towards a definite value for infinitely large k sizes θ_{j,k→∞}≈0.2701-and (2) the inverse percolation threshold is a decreasing function of k in the range 1≤k≤17. For k≥18, all jammed configurations are percolating states (the lattice remains connected even when the highest allowed concentration of removed sites is reached) and, consequently, there is no nonpercolating phase. This finding contrasts with the results obtained in literature for a complementary problem, where straight rigid k-mers are randomly and irreversibly deposited on a square lattice forming two layers. In this case, percolating and nonpercolating phases extend to infinity in the space of the parameter k and the model presents percolation transition for the whole range of k. The results obtained in the present study were also compared with those reported for the case of inverse percolation by removal of rigid linear k-mers from a square monolayer. The differences observed between monolayer and bilayer problems were discussed in terms of vulnerability and network robustness. Finally, the accurate determination of the critical exponents ν, β, and γ reveals that the percolation phase transition involved in the system has the same universality class as the standard percolation problem.
