Abstract Purpose: To analyze the serum levels and H/L gene polymorphisms of mannose-binding lectin-2 (MBL-2) in primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) cases and control subjects to investigate whether MBL-2 has a possible role in the development and pathogenesis of POAG.
Materials and methods: In 45 POAG cases and age and sex-matched 45 healthy controls, Elisa Kit was used to determine serum levels of MBL-2. The genomic DNA of patient and control groups was extracted from whole blood using High Pure PCR template preparation kit. Genotyping of MBL-2 polymorphisms were detected by using a MBL-2 mutation detection kit in real-time PCR. Chi-square or Fisher's Exact Tests were used to evaluate the distribution of MBL-2 H/L genotypes among patients and control subjects. Associations between the H/L genotype and POAG risk were analyzed by using binary logistic regression. The serum MBL-2 levels of both groups were compared with Independent Sample t-test.
Results: Mean MBL-2 serum levels in the patient group (21.30 ± 4.97 µg/mL) was significantly higher than the control group (17.48 ± 3.66 µg/mL), (p < 0.001). The distribution of alleles in the patient group was 28.9% for LL, 44.4% for HL, 26.7% for HH and in controls was 33.3% for LL, 37.8% for HL, 28.3% for HH. According to genotype ratios, the two groups were not different from each other.
Conclusions: Our findings may suggest an association between high serum MBL-2 levels and POAG, but H/L gene polymorphism of MBL-2 seems not to be associated with POAG.

Abstract: ... Mısır ve Suriye sahasında yazılmış sözlüklerinden biri olan ed-Dürretü’l-Mudiyye ile aynı adı taşıyan ...

Abstract Çalışmamız Türk dilinin önemli kollarından birini teşkil eden Kıpçakça’nın XIII-XV. yüzyıllar arası Mısır ve Suriye sahasında yazılmış sözlüklerinden biri olan ed-Dürretü’l-Mudiyye ile aynı adı taşıyan Türkmence sözlüğün karşılaştırılmasını içermektedir.

Abstract 17. yüzyıldan itibaren Avrupa’nın kendi iç dinamikleriyle başlayan, siyasal, sosyal, ekonomik ve kültürel alanda yaşanan değişiklikleri ifade eden modernizm, batı dışı ülkeleri de etkisi altına almayı başarmıştır.

Abstract Objectives: Coronavirus disease-2019 due to SARS-CoV-2 infection has been associated with neurological and neuropsychiatric illnesses as well as auditory system problems. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on the central auditory system by assessing the hemodynamic activation changes using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS).
Methods: Three participants who had SARS-CoV-2 infection (study group) and four participants who had no SARS-CoV-2 infection (control group) were included in the study. During the auditory oddball task in which two different frequencies of tonal stimulation were presented at 80 dB HL, the participants were asked to pay attention to the rare tonal stimulation and mentally count these target stimuli throughout the task. During this task, oxygenated hemodynamic response functions were evaluated with fNIRS.
Results: Significantly increased oxygenated hemodynamic responses were observed in both groups during the task (p < .05), which was significantly higher in the study group (p < .05). Significantly more HbO activation was observed in the vmPFC, superior temporal gyrus, and medial temporal gyrus in the study group compared to controls (p < .05). Significantly higher hemodynamic activation was observed in the right hemisphere in both groups, which was significantly higher in the study group (p < .05).
Conclusion: SARS-CoV-2 infections may impact on central auditory processing or auditory attention due to changes in oxyhemoglobin levels in the frontal and temporal brain regions. It seems that SARS-CoV-2 infection is associated with an additional load on neural activity, and difficulties in focusing in auditory attention, following speech and hearing in noise as well as increased effort to perceive auditory cues.

Abstract The objective of this study is to evaluate the influence of mixed L. acidophilus LA-5 and enrichment with microalgae (C. vulgaris and A. platensis) on metabolomic formation in a brined cheese matrix. Microbiological, compositional, and metabolomic characterization were investigated during the ripening. It was found that the nutritional quality indices of the samples were based on amino acid and fatty acid characterization. Fifty-six metabolomics including fatty acids, amino acids, organic acids, minerals, and vitamins were detected using the HPLC-DAD, GC-MS, and ICP-OES-based methods. The results indicated that the enrichment with probiotic strain and microalgae led to an increase in the nutritional quality indices such as EAAI, NI, BV, MUFA/SFA, h/H, and DFA. The chemometric analysis (e.g. HCA and PCA) presented the variance between the cheese samples based on their attributes. The identification of cheese metabolomics throughout the ripening could be used for a better understanding of the functional ingredients-cheese matrix relationships and as a directive approach for novel dairy products in other metabolomic-related studies.

Abstract Sunflower oil oleogels consisting of 3% and 8% polyglycerol stearate (PGSO) were studied as an alternative frying media for onion rings. The physicochemical properties and thermo-rheological characteristics of oleogels were provided. The sensorial quality and texture profiles of onion rings fried in oleogels were compared with those fried in control sunflower oil. Free fatty acids at the end of 6 h were determined, and decreasing trend was reported in order as PGSO-8, control (sunflower) oil, and PGSO-3. The oxidation induction time for PGSO-8 was significantly lower (1.46 min) than those of the control and PGSO-3 samples following frying. Compared to the control group, the onion ring samples fried in oleogels absorbed approximately 33-37% less oil. It was thought that this reduction would help consumers to less total calorie and weight gain from the fried products. There were no negative effects of oleogel usage on the L* value, aroma, crispness/texture, and overall acceptability scores for the onion ring samples fried in the oleogels.

Abstract Background: While chloride (Cl) is the most abundant anion in the serum, it is unfortunately one of the most commonly disregarded laboratory test results routinely drawn upon admission into the medical intensive care unit (MICU). We aimed to investigate the relation between in-hospital mortality, different pathologies requiring admission to the MICU, serum Cl levels, and other biochemical tests in a tertiary center.
Methods: The prospective study included data from 373 patients admitted to the ICU of a tertiary care center between 2017 and 2019. Data of patients under 18, pregnant patients or patients who were in the MICU for under 48 h were excluded. Comorbidity status, complete blood count, biochemistry tests, and blood gas analysis results of all patients included in the study were collected and recorded. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed with the obtained data.
Results: : Of the patients included in the study, 158 (42.4%) were discharged, and 215 (57.6%) died. In the receiver operator characteristics curve analysis performed to determine the discriminating power of Cl levels with a cut-off value of >98 mEq/L in relation to mortality, its sensitivity was found to be 84% and specificity 60%. According to Kaplan-Meier analysis results, mortality rate was higher (60% vs 46%) and survival time was lower (19.0 ± 1.46 vs. 23.0 ± 4.36 days; p = 0.035) in the patient group with high Cl levels compared to the patient group with normal or low Cl levels. In the Cox regression analysis, it was found that the survival time of the patients hospitalized in the MICU was associated with the variables of Cl, presence of cancer diagnosis and pCO2 (hazard ratio: 1.030 (1.008-1.049), 2.260(1.451-3.500), and 1.020 (1.003-1.029); p < 0.05, respectively).
Discussion: Mortality in MICU patients were found to increase in association with higher Cl levels at admission, presence of cancer disease, and higher pCO2 levels. In addition, it should not be ignored that there may be an important relationship between renal failure and hyperchloremia in MICU patients.

Abstract Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate meniscal and tibiofemoral cartilage injury in patients with trochlear dysplasia (TD) and investigate whether there were correlations between TD grade and meniscal and cartilage injury. In addition, the relationship between TD and mucoid degeneration of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL-MD) was investigated. MATERİALS AND METHODS: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations of 133 patients with TD were included in the study. TD was graded (types A, B, C, D). The tibial tuberosity (TT)-TG distance was also measured. The ACL was assessed for ACL-MD. Both menisci were evaluated for the degeneration and tears. Medial-lateral tibial plateau (MTP-LTP), medial-lateral femoral condyles (MFC-LFC), and trochlear cartilage were examined for focal cartilage defect (FCD).
Results: ACL-MD was present in 42 of the patients with TD (31.6%). There was a significant positive relationship between ACL-MD and TT-TG distance. Meniscal tear was detected in 40 (30.1%) of all patients. FCD were detected in the tibiofemoral compartments in 41 (30.8%) of 133 patients. There was a significant positive relationship between the presence of FCD in the LFC and the type of TD (p<0.01). FCD was present in the LFC of all cases in the type D. A significant positive relationship was found between the TT-TG distance and the presence of FCD, especially in the anterior part of LFC (p<0.01). There was a significant relationship between the lateral trochlear cartilage defect and the type of dysplasia (p=0.037). CONCLUSİON: TD is a significant risk factor for ACL-MD, meniscal, and tibiofemoral cartilage injury.
