Abstract Atmospheric corrosion is a significant challenge faced by the aviation industry as it considerably affects the structural integrity of an aircraft operated for long periods. Therefore, an appropriate corrosion deterioration model is required to predict corrosion problems. However, practical application of the deterioration model is challenging owing to the limited data available for the parameter estimation. Thus, a high uncertainty in prediction is unavoidable. To address these challenges, a method of integrating a physics-based model and the monitoring data on a Bayesian network (BN) is presented herein. Atmospheric corrosion is modeled using the simulation method, and a BN is constructed using GeNie. Moreover, model calibration is performed using the monitoring data collected from aircraft parking areas. The calibration approach is an improvement over existing models as it incorporates actual environmental data, making it more accurate and applicable to real-world scenarios. In conclusion, our research emphasizes the importance of precise corrosion models for predicting and managing atmospheric corrosion on carbon steel. The study results open new avenues for future research, such as the incorporation of additional data sources to further improve the accuracy of corrosion models.

Abstract Microgrids can effectively integrate renewable energy sources (RESs) and provide power for local customers. However, uncertainties of RESs and loads pose challenges to microgrid operation. The traditional point optimization method is unrealistic, and the widely used stochastic optimization (SO) method is time-consuming. Besides, battery energy storage systems (BESSs) are critical dispatchable devices to alleviate adverse effects of uncertainty, so an accurate nonlinear degradation cost model of BESSs should also be proposed. To handle such problems, the paper proposes an affine–arithmetic (AA)-based microgrid interval optimization (IO) method considering uncertainty and BESS degradation. First, the AA theory is introduced to model the RES and load variation ranges as intervals and calculate the interval uncertainty. Then, a nonlinear BESS degradation cost model is proposed, which can assess battery degradation costs considering different charging and discharging behaviors. The nondominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II) is employed to solve the proposed microgrid IO framework. For validation, the proposed IO method was compared with the point optimization method and SO method under various uncertainty realizations in a modified IEEE 33 bus system. The simulation results indicated the effectiveness of the proposed IO method in terms of an equilibrium between the simulation time and optimization performance.

Abstract Human skin comprises the epidermis and dermis, which perform interactive functional activities with each other in order to maintain the skin's tensile strength. In particular, the dermal layer is crucial for skin protection. However, skin aging destroys collagen and elastin fibers, causing wrinkles, pigments, and sagging. Skin aging-related factors, such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), promote the generation of intercellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). These are known to stimulate the hypersecretion of matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1), which degrades collagen and inhibits collagen synthesis. In this study, as part of our ongoing discovery of natural products, we investigated potential natural products derived from ginkgo fruit (

Abstract SrAs_{3} is a unique nodal-line semimetal that contains only a single nodal ring in the Brillouin zone, uninterrupted by any trivial bands near the Fermi energy. We performed axis-resolved optical reflection measurements on SrAs_{3} and observed that the optical conductivity exhibits flat absorption up to 129 meV in both the radial and axial directions, confirming the robustness of the universal power-law behavior of the nodal ring. The axis-resolved optical conductivity, in combination with theoretical calculations, further reveals fundamental properties beyond the flat absorption, including the overlap energy of the topological bands, the spin-orbit coupling gap along the nodal ring, and the geometric properties of the nodal ring such as the average ring radius, ring ellipticity, and velocity anisotropy. In addition, our temperature-dependent measurements revealed a spectral weight transfer between intraband and interband transitions, indicating a possible violation of the optical sum rule within the measured energy range.

Abstract The emergence of diffusion models has greatly broadened the scope of high-fidelity image synthesis, resulting in notable advancements in both practical implementation and academic research. With the active adoption of the model in various real-world applications, the need for on-device deployment has grown considerably. However, deploying large diffusion models such as Stable Diffusion with more than one billion parameters to mobile devices poses distinctive challenges due to the limited computational and memory resources, which may vary according to the device. In this paper, we present the challenges and solutions for deploying Stable Diffusion on mobile devices with TensorFlow Lite framework, which supports both iOS and Android devices. The resulting Mobile Stable Diffusion achieves the inference latency of smaller than 7 seconds for a 512x512 image generation on Android devices with mobile GPUs.

Abstract Human skin comprises the epidermis and dermis, which perform interactive functional activities with each other in order to maintain the skin’s tensile strength. In this study, as part of our ongoing discovery of natural products, we investigated potential natural products derived from ginkgo fruit (Ginkgo biloba fruit) with protective effects against TNF-α-induced skin aging. Phytochemical investigation of the MeOH extract of G. biloba fruits, aided by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry, led to the isolation of 14 compounds (1–14) from the n-butanol-soluble fraction. These were structurally determined to be: (E)-coniferin (1), syringin (2), 4-hydroxybenzoic acid 4-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (3), vanillic acid 4-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (4), glucosyringic acid (5), (E)-ferulic acid 4-O-β-D-glucoside (6), (E)-sinapic acid 4-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (7), ginkgotoxin-5-glucoside (8), ginkgopanoside (9), (Z)-4-coumaric acid 4-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (10), (1′R,2′S,5′R,8′S,2′Z,4′E)-dihydrophaseic acid 3’-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (11), eucomic acid (12), rutin (13), and laricitrin 3-rutinoside (L3R) (14). Biological evaluation of the isolated compounds for their effects on intracellular ROS generation showed that, of these 14 compounds, L3R (14) inhibited TNF-α-stimulated ROS generation (p < 0.001 at 100 μM). Inhibition of ROS generation by L3R led to the suppression of MMP-1 secretion and protection against collagen degradation. The inhibitory effect of L3R was mediated by the inhibition of extracellular signal regulated kinase (ERK) phosphorylation. Furthermore, L3R diminished the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin 6 (IL-6) and interleukin 8 (IL-8). Based on these experimental results, L3R is a potential bioactive natural product that can be used to protect against skin damage, including aging, in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
