Abstract The prevalence of multidrug-resistant highly virulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (MDR-hvKP) requires the development of new therapeutic agents. Herein, a novel lytic phage vB_KpnS_ZX4 against MDR-hvKP was discovered in hospital sewage. Phage vB_KpnS_ZX4 had a short latent period (5 min) and a large burst size (230 PFU/cell). It can rapidly reduce the number of bacteria in vitro and improve survival rates of bacteremic mice in vivo from 0 to 80 % with a single injection of 10

Abstract Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) have become one of the hotspots in large-scale energy storage due to their advantages of high safety, low cost, and environmental friendliness. However, the metallic Zn anode is prone to dendritic growth and electrochemical corrosion on the surface during cycling, posing a serious challenge to the cycling life of AZIBs. Herein, a simple, low-cost and suitable for mass production method is reported to construct an anti-corrosive nano-copper particle protective coating on the surface of a metallic zinc (Cu-Zn) anode. The prepared nano-copper particles are evenly distributed on the surface of Zn, providing a uniform electric field distribution and successfully suppressing electrochemical corrosion on the surface. Importantly, it is confirmed microscopically that the Cu-Zn anode maintains homogeneous stripping and plating processes, effectively alleviating dendrite formation. Additionally, the resulting Cu-Zn anode exhibits a lower overpotential, which offers a lower interfacial transfer resistance of the battery. The symmetric battery test results show that the unmodified bare Zn anode fails after 58 h at 1 mA cm

Abstract Objectives: Heart failure (HF) is on the rise as a global health problem, but information on its burden in Asia is limited. This study aimed to assess the burden, trends, and underlying causes of HF in the Asian region.
Study design and methods: Data on HF in Asia from 1990 to 2019, including prevalence, years lived with disability (YLD), and underlying causes, were extracted from the Global Burden of Diseases 2019. The cases, the age-standardized prevalence, and the YLD were compared between the age groups, the sexes, the sociodemographic index, and the locations. The proportion of age-standardized prevalence rates of HF attributable to 16 underlying causes was also analyzed.
Results: In 2019, the age-standardized prevalence rate of HF per 100,000 persons in Asia was 722.45 (95% uncertainty interval [UI]: 591.97-891.64), with an estimated 31.89 million cases (95% UI: 25.94-39.25). From 1990 to 2019, the prevalence of age-standardized HF in Asia decreased by 4.51%, reflecting the global trend (-7.06%). Age-standardized YLD rates of HF exhibited patterns similar to prevalence rates. Among Asian countries, China had the highest age-standardized prevalence rate, followed by Kuwait and Jordan. Hypertensive heart disease was the leading cause of HF, followed by ischemic heart disease and rheumatic heart disease.
Conclusions: Although the burden of HF in Asia showed a gradual decline between 1990 and 2019, it remains a significant health challenge that requires increased attention. Regional disparities in HF burden are evident, emphasizing the need for urgent prevention and control measures at the regional and national levels.

Abstract This paper aims to contribute to the effectiveness of pro-poor tourism in rural areas. We use 5770 pro-poor tourism villages in China as the research objects; the spatial distribution characteristics of pro-poor tourism villages in China are analyzed using a combination of disequilibrium index, kernel density analysis, and spatial autocorrelation; their influencing factors are detected using a geographical detector and overlay analysis. The study results show the following: (1) The distribution of pro-poor tourism villages is exceptionally uneven in three zones, eight regions, and inter-provincial levels, forming a high-density cluster belt that includes Hebei, Henan, Anhui, and Hubei, and five high-density cluster cores that include southern Gansu, Sichuan–Gansu–Shaanxi border area; Guizhou, Hunan, and Chongqing border area; southern Sichuan; and southwest Guizhou. (2) Regarding spatial correlations, the pro-poor tourism villages in central and western regions are in hot spots, while those in eastern regions are in cold spots. The hot spots gradually increase, while cold spots gradually decrease, and the clustering trend of the distribution of the pro-poor tourism villages is increasingly apparent. (3) Pro-poor tourism villages are affected by social, economic, industrial, and other human factors as well as natural geographical factors such as terrain, precipitation, river, and climate, among which the industrial factors have a more significant impact. Pro-poor tourism villages are concentrated in humid mountainous areas with an altitude of about 1000 m and an annual precipitation of more than 800 mm, and they are mostly distributed in the subtropical monsoon climate zone closer to the river and more suitable climate. (4) It is suggested that pro-poor tourism villages can be divided into four types: the resource underutilization type, mountain environment restriction type, traffic location non-optimization type, and industrial development lagging type, and the sustainable development strategies of different ...

Abstract Background and objectives: Atrial fibrillation (AF) has been linked to dementia risk, partly explained by cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD). Since AF and cardiovascular comorbidities were associated with cardiac dysfunction, we aimed to determine the association between echocardiographic parameters and neuroimaging markers of CSVD in patients with AF-related ischemic stroke.
Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled patients with AF-related ischemic stroke from March 2013 to December 2019 who underwent transthoracic echocardiography and brain 3T MRI, including T1, T2, Flair, and SWI imaging sequences. We assessed the presence of lacunes and cerebellar microbleeds (CMBs), the severity of white matter hyperintensity (WMH) scored by the Fazekas scale (0-6), and the severity of enlarged perivascular spaces (EPVS) in basal ganglia (BG) and centrum semiovale (CSO) classified into three categories (0-10, 10-25, and >25). CSVD burden was rated on a 0-to-4 ordinal scale. Generalized linear regression analysis and post hoc comparisons with Bonferroni correction were performed to assess the association between various echocardiographic parameters and these lesions, adjusted for demographics and potential confounders.
Results: 119 patients (68.38 ± 12.692 years; male 45.4 %) were included for analysis, of whom 55 (46.2%) had lacunes, 40 (33.6%) had CMBs, and median severity for WMH, BG-EPVS, CSO-EPVS, and CSVD burden were 2 (IQR: 1-3), 1 (IQR: 1-2), 1 (IQR: 0-1), and 1 (IQR: 1-2) respectively. In multivariable, fully adjusted models, left ventricular posterior wall thickness (LVPW) was associated with a higher risk of lacunes (RR 1.899, 95% CI: 1.342-2.686) and CSVD burden (RR = 2.081, 95%CI: 1.562-2.070). Right atrial diameter (RAD) was associated with greater CSO-EPVS (RR = 2.243, 95%CI: 1.234-4.075). No echocardiographic parameters were revealed to be associated with CMBs and WMH.
Conclusion: In patients with AF-related ischemic stroke, LVPW is associated with a higher risk of lacunes and CSVD burden, while RAD was associated with greater CSO-EPVS. Larger studies are required to determine these associations and to elucidate if these associations can help facilitate cognitive evaluation and brain MRI screening.

Abstract Utilizing neutrophils (NEs) to target and deliver nanodrugs to inflammation sites has received considerable attention. NEs are involved in the formation and development of thrombosis by transforming into neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs); this indicates that NEs may be a natural thrombolytic drug delivery carrier. However, NEs lack an effective power system to overcome blood flow resistance and enhance targeting efficiency. Herein, we report the application of a urease catalysis micromotor powered NEs nanodrug delivery system to promote thrombolysis and suppress rethrombosis. The urease micromotor powered Janus NEs (UM-NEs) were prepared by immobilizing the enzyme asymmetrically onto the surface of natural NEs and then loading urokinase (UK) coupled silver (Ag) nanoparticles (Ag-UK) to obtain the UM-NEs (Ag-UK) system. Urease catalytic endogenous urea is used to generate thrust by producing ammonia and carbon dioxide, which propels NEs actively targeting the thrombus. The UM-NEs (Ag-UK) can be activated by enriched inflammatory cytokines to release NETs at the thrombosis site, resulting in a concomitant release of Ag-UK. Ag-UK induces thrombolysis to restore vascular recanalization. This urease micromotor-driven NEs drug delivery system can significantly reduce the hemorrhagic side effects, promote thrombolysis, and inhibit rethrombosis with high bioavailability and biosafety, which can be used for the treatment of thrombotic diseases.

Abstract The in situ Mg₂Si nanoparticles (Mg₂Siₚ)-reinforced AZ91D composites were fabricated by powder thixoforming that involved introduction of Si nanoparticles (Siₚ) by ball milling followed by partial remelting and thixoforming. The results indicated that Siₚ can be homogeneously dispersed on the surface of AZ91D powders, while they will be clustered when their amount exceeded 0.91 vol%. The thixoformed microstructure of the composites consisted of spheroidal primary α-Mg particles, intergranular secondary solidified structures (SSS) and in situ Mg₂Siₚ that dispersed in the SSS. The tensile strength and elongation of Mg₂Siₚ/AZ91D composites increased with the increased content of Mg₂Siₚ, but the improved degree in the mechanical properties was reduced when its content exceeded 3vol%. The 4.5 vol.%Mg₂Siₚ/AZ91D composite has the excellent mechanical properties, achieving an ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of 288 MPa, yield strength (YS) of 205 MPa and elongation (ɛf) of 6.9%, which were increased by 50% and 48.6% and decreased by 9.2%, respectively, compared to those of the AZ91D alloy. The strong Mg₂Siₚ/Mg interfacial bonding and homogeneously distributed Mg₂Siₚ were beneficial to activating the combined strengthening effects of thermal mismatch and Orowan mechanisms, improving the mechanical properties of the Mg₂Siₚ/AZ91D composites. However, the Mg₂Siₚ clustering degraded the strength of the composites with higher Mg₂Siₚ content.
