Abstract This study investigated the synergistic integration of clean technologies, specifically anaerobic digestion (AD) and struvite precipitation, to enhance nutrient recovery from chicken manure (CM). The batch experiments were conducted using (i) anaerobically digested CM digestate, referred to as raw sample (RS), (ii) filtered digestate sample (FS), and (iii) a synthetically prepared control sample (CS). The research findings demonstrated that the initial ammonia concentration variations did not significantly impact the struvite precipitation yield in the RS and FS, showcasing the materials inertness process's robustness to changing ammonia concentrations. Notably, the study revealed that the highest nitrogen (N) recovery, associated with 86% and 88% ammonia removal in the CS and FS, was achieved at pH 11, underscoring the efficiency of nutrient recovery. The RS achieved the highest nitrogen recovery efficiency at pH 10, at 86.3%. In addition, the research highlighted the positive impact of reducing heavy metal levels (Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Cd, Cr and Fe) and improving the composition of the microbial community in the digestate. These findings offer valuable insights into sustainable manure and nutrient management practices, emphasizing the potential benefits for the agricultural sector and the broader circular economy. Future research directions include economic viability assessments, regulatory compliance evaluations, and knowledge dissemination to promote the widespread adoption of these clean technologies on a larger scale. The study marks a significant step toward addressing the environmental concerns associated with poultry farming and underscores the potential of integrating clean technologies for a more sustainable agricultural future.

Abstract The importance of early diagnosis of hepatitis B virus infection to treat and follow up this disease has led to many advances in diagnostic techniques and materials. Conventional diagnostic tests are not very useful, especially in the early stages of infection; it is therefore suggested that nanomaterials can enhance them by changing and strengthening their performance for a more accurate and rapid diagnosis. Electrochemical immunosensors with unique features such as miniaturization, low cost, specificity, and simplicity have become a convenient and vital tool in the rapid diagnosis of hepatitis B. Different strategies have been presented, such as graphene oxide and gold nanorods [GO-GNRs], graphene oxide [GO], copper metal-organic framework/ electrochemically reduced graphene oxide [Cu-MOF/ErGO] composite, label-free graphene oxide/Fe3O4/Prussian Blue [GO/Fe3O4/PB] immunosensor, and graphene oxide-ferrocene-CS/Au [ GO-Fc-CS/Au] nanoparticle layered electrochemical immunosensor. In this review, we discuss a group of the most widely used nanostructures, such as graphene and carbon nanotubes, which are used to develop electrochemical immunosensors for the early diagnosis of the hepatitis B virus.

Abstract Since the emergence of novel coronavirus and the disease named as COVID-19 in late December of 2019 in Wuhan, Hubei province, China, many aspects of this disease have been reported in the literature (mainly pulmonary manifestations). In patients with COVID-19, rheumatic and cardiovascular manifestations and interactions were reported separately, but they were all very rare. This is the report of a 14-year-old teenager with GPA (previously known as Wegner's granulomatosis) who was in remission with immunosuppressive therapy. Post COVID-19 infection, she developed exacerbation of her disease. Besides the rheumatologic manifestations, she developed epigastric pain found to be acute myocardial infarction (MI) that needed primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Abstract Non-healing diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is one of the main complications in diabetic patients. This case reported a 65-year-old male with a neuropathic ulcer in the right foot came to Ahwaz Wound Clinic after the wound had not healed with routine treatments. In addition to the routine treatment program, we used tropical ozone therapy and autohemotherapy (blood ozone therapy) for 2 months. Zinc supplementation (50 mg) was also administered daily during the treatment. The DFU was clearly healed with diminishing inflammation and wound closing, and there were no side effects. Additionally, the C-reactive protein level was obviously decreased during the treatment indicating effective suppression of infection. This way indicates a helpful new intervention approach to the treatment of DFU.

Abstract Gene therapy has emerged as a promising tool for treating different intractable diseases, particularly cancer or even viral diseases such as COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019). In this context, various non-viral gene carriers are being explored to transfer DNA or RNA sequences into target cells. Here, we review the applications of the naturally occurring amino acid histidine in the delivery of nucleic acids into cells. The biocompatibility of histidine-enhanced gene delivery systems has encouraged their wider use in gene therapy. Histidine-based gene carriers can involve the modification of peptides, dendrimers, lipids or nanocomposites. Several linear polymers, such as polyethylenimine, poly-l-lysine (synthetic) or dextran and chitosan (natural), have been conjugated with histidine residues to form complexes with nucleic acids for intracellular delivery. The challenges, opportunities and future research trends of histidine-based gene deliveries are investigated.

Abstract Bio-based polymers have better salt and temperature tolerance than most synthetic polymers. The biopolymer solutions have high viscosity, which can lead to reducing the fingering effect and soaring the oil recovery rate. This work aims to produce and characterize a biopolymer from Pseudomonas Atacamensis M7D1 strain, modify the biopolymer yield using Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) powder as an outer tension in the growth medium, and finally, evaluate the produced biopolymer function for Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) purposes. Using PCBs powder to trigger bacteria for higher production yield increases the biopolymer production rate eleven times higher than pure growth medium without additives. Different analyses were performed on the biopolymer to characterize its properties; Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) indicated that the produced biopolymer has an average molecular weight of 3.6 × 10

Abstract Background: Radiation protection plays a key role in medicine, due to the considerable usage of radiation in diagnosis and treatment. The protection against radiation exposure with inappropriate equipment is concerning.
Objective: The current study aimed to investigate the efficiency and quality of the radiation protection gowns with multi-layered nanoparticles compositions of Bismuth, Tungsten, Barium, and Copper, and light non-lead commercial gowns in angiography departments for approval of the manufacturers' declarations and improve the quality of gowns.
Material and methods: In this case study, physicians, physician assistants, radiology technologists, and nurses were asked to wear two commercial and proposed gowns in the angiography departments. Dosimetry of personnel was conducted using a Thermoluminescent Dosimeter (TLD) (GR-200), and the radiation dose received by personnel was compared in both cases. The participants were asked to fill out a questionnaire about the quality and comfort of two radiation protection gowns.
Results: However, both gowns provide the necessary radiation protection; the multi-layer proposed gown has better radiation protection than the commercial sample (2 to 14 percent reduction in effective dose). The proposed gown has higher flexibility and efficiency than the commercial sample due to the use of nanoparticles and multi-layers (2.3 percent increase in personnel satisfaction according to the questionnaires).
Conclusion: However, the multi-layer gown containing nanoparticles of Bismuth, Tungsten, Barium, and Copper has no significant difference from the non-lead commercial sample in terms of radiation protection, it has higher flexibility and comfort with more satisfaction for the personnel.

Abstract Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is the most prevalent metabolic disorder during pregnancy, causing short- and long-term complications for both mother and baby. GDM is a multifactorial disease, and it may be affected by interactions between genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors. However, the exact etiology is poorly understood. Despite the high prevalence of GDM, there is still debate regarding the optimal time for screening, the diagnostic threshold to apply, and the best strategies for treatment. Identifying effective strategies for therapeutic purposes as well as accurate biomarkers for prognostic and diagnostic purposes will reduce the GDM incidence and improve its management. In recent years, new biochemical and molecular biomarkers such as microRNAs, single-nucleotide polymorphisms, and DNA methylation have received great interest in the diagnosis of GDM. In this review, we discuss current and future diagnostic approaches for the detection of GDM and evaluate lifestyle and pharmacological strategies for GDM prevention.

Abstract Attentional focus research consistently demonstrates a benefit of an external focus relative to an internal focus. However, this dichotomous comparison may oversimplify the variety of attentional focus strategies a learner uses when acquiring a motor skill. Recent research suggests a holistic focus of attention provides a similar benefit over an internal focus in performing a standing long jump, but the generalizability of this effect is unknown. The purpose of this study was to determine how an internal (IF), external (EF), and holistic focus (HF) and control condition impact the learning of a badminton short serve. Novice participants (N = 60) were randomly assigned to IF, EF, HF, or control groups. They practiced the badminton short serve for 150 trials over 5 days and completed retention and transfer tests 48-h post-acquisition. Serve accuracy was analyzed in separate repeated-measures ANOVAs for acquisition and pretest/retention/transfer. All groups improved accuracy through acquisition with the HF group serving more accurately than the IF and control groups. In retention, the HF and EF group served more accurately than the control group, and in transfer, the HF group was more accurate than the IF and control groups. The present findings suggest a benefit of both a holistic and external focus in the learning of an accuracy-based task.
