Abstract Background & aims: The association between antibiotic exposure and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) remains controversial, especially whether there is a dose-response relationship. We aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to thoroughly evaluate the risk of new-onset IBD associated with antibiotic exposure.
Methods: Four databases were searched from their inception to September 30, 2023 for all relevant studies. The risk estimates were pooled together using random-effects models, and pooled odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated, stratified by IBD subtype, age, exposure period, study type, and antibiotic classes. Dose-response relationship between the number of antibiotic prescriptions and IBD risk was assessed using generalized least squares regression analysis.
Results: Twenty-eight studies involving 153,027 patients with IBD were included. Antibiotic exposure was significantly associated with an increased risk of new-onset IBD for prescription-based studies (pooled OR, 1.41; 95% CI, 1.29-1.53) and for questionnaire-based studies (pooled OR, 1.35; 95% CI, 1.08-1.68). This association existed for both Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, as well as in children and adults for prescription-based studies. The majority of antibiotic classes were associated with an increased IBD risk, with metronidazole (OR, 1.70; 95% CI, 1.38-2.10) and quinolones (OR, 1.56; 95% CI, 1.37-1.77) having relatively higher risk estimates. A positive nonlinear dose-response association was observed between the number of antibiotic prescriptions and IBD risk.
Conclusions: Antibiotic exposure was significantly associated with an increased risk of new-onset IBD, and a positive nonlinear dose-response relationship was observed. Antibiotic stewardship may be important for reducing IBD risk.

Abstract In the present work, the force term is first derived in the spectral multiple-relaxation-time high-order lattice Boltzmann model. The force term in the Boltzmann equation is expanded in the Hermite temperature rescaled central moment space (RCM), instead of the Hermite raw moment space (RM). The contribution of nonequilibrium RCM moments beyond second order are neglected. For the collision operator in the RCM space, each order of the force term can be incorporated directly. Through the transformation between the RCM space and the RM space, the force term for practical numerical implementation in the RM space can be derived. It can be demonstrated that the present force scheme is self-consistent for the isothermal flow and compressible thermal flow with adjustable Prandtl number via the numerical experiments.

Abstract The role of sperm DNA fragmentation index (DFI) in investigating fertility, embryonic development, and pregnancy is of academic interest. However, there is ongoing controversy regarding the impact of DFI on pregnancy outcomes and the safety of offspring in the context of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). In this study, we conducted an analysis of clinical data obtained from 6330 patients who underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) at the reproductive medical center of The First People's Hospital of Shangqiu and The Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. The patients was stratified into two distinct groups: IVF group and ICSI group, Within each group, patients were further classified into three subgroups. IVF: group A (< 15%) included 3123 patients, group B (15-30%) included 561 patients, and group C (≥ 30%) included 46 patients. ICSI: group A (< 15%) included 1967 patients, group B (15-30%) included 462 patients, and group C (≥ 30%) included 171 patients. Data were collected and subjected to statistical analysis. There were no significant differences in the basic characteristics among the three groups, and the sperm DFI did not significantly affect the fertilization rates, pregnancy rates, stillbirth rates and the number of birth defects. However, the incidences of miscarriage rates in IVF/ICSI groups with DFI > 30% and DFI 15-30% were significantly higher than those in IVF/ICSI groups with DFI < 15%, and the miscarriage rates in ICSI group with DFI > 30% were significantly higher than DFI 15-30% group, the smooth fitting curve shows that there is a positive correlation between miscarriage rates and sperm DFI (OR 1.095; 95% CI 1.068-1.123; P < 0.001). The birth weight of infants in the IVF/ICSI groups with DFI > 30% and DFI 15-30% exhibited a statistically significant decrease compared to those in the IVF/ICSI groups with DFI < 15%. Furthermore, the birth weight of infants in the ICSI group with DFI > 30% was lower than that of the DFI 15-30% group. The smooth fitting curve analysis demonstrates a negative association between birth weight and sperm DFI (OR 0.913; 95% CI 0.890-0.937; P < 0.001). Sperm DFI has an impact on both miscarriage rates and birth weight in assisted reproductive technology. The smooth fitting curve analysis reveals a positive correlation between miscarriage rates and DFI, while a negative correlation is observed between birth weight and DFI.

Abstract Flexible job shop scheduling problem (FJSP) has attracted research interests as it can significantly improve the energy, cost, and time efficiency of production. As one type of reinforcement learning, deep Q-network (DQN) has been applied to solve numerous realistic optimization problems. In this study, a DQN model is proposed to solve a multiobjective FJSP with crane transportation and setup times (FJSP-CS). Two objectives, i.e., makespan and total energy consumption, are optimized simultaneously based on weighting approach. To better reflect the problem realities, eight different crane transportation stages and three typical machine states including processing, setup, and standby are investigated. Considering the complexity of FJSP-CS, an identification rule is designed to organize the crane transportation in solution decoding. As for the DQN model, 12 state features and seven actions are designed to describe the features in the scheduling process. A novel structure is applied in the DQN topology, saving the calculation resources and improving the performance. In DQN training, double deep Q-network technique and soft target weight update strategy are used. In addition, three reported improvement strategies are adopted to enhance the solution qualities by adjusting scheduling assignments. Extensive computational tests and comparisons demonstrate the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed method in solving FJSP-CS, where the DQN can choose appropriate dispatching rules at various scheduling situations.

Abstract Background: Both depression and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) have a high global prevalence. Growing evidence suggests an association between depression and NAFLD, while the association remains unclear. Thus, in this study, we aimed to explore the effect of depression on the risk of developing NAFLD.
Methods: The meta-analysis examined the association between depression and the risk of NAFLD by including observational studies. Relevant studies were searched in PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science. Then a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was performed to explore causal association using genetic instruments identified from a genome-wide association study.
Results: Six eligible studies were included in the meta-analysis, involving 289,22 depression cases among 167,554 participants. Meta-analysis showed a significant association between depression and a higher risk of developing NAFLD (OR = 1.14, 95 % CI: [1.05, 1.24], P = 0.002). However, we found no convincing evidence supporting a causal role of genetically predicted depression with NAFLD risk (OR = 0.861, 95 % CI: [0.598, 1.238], P = 0.420).
Limitations: The insufficient number of included studies, the use of summary-level data, and restrictions on population sources are the major limiting factors.
Conclusions: Meta-analysis and MR analysis demonstrated inconsistent results on the relationship between depression and a high risk of developing NAFLD. Specifically, meta-analysis confirmed that depression increases the risk of developing NAFLD, while MR analysis did not support a causal association between genetically determined depression and the risk of NAFLD.

Abstract Background: Nurses frequently endure elevated levels of psychosocial stress, which often correlates with an increased suicide risk. This study aimed to investigate the impact of latent psychosocial characteristic patterns on suicidal ideation and non-suicidal self-injury among nursing staff.
Method: Participants were recruited from the Dehong districts of Yunnan province, China, between July 11th and July 26th, 2022. Subgroups were identified using variables linked to suicidal ideation and non-suicidal self-injury, including perceived cognitive deficits, anxiety symptoms, depressive symptoms, resilience, social support, childhood trauma, loneliness, and sleep quality. Measurement tools included the Perceived Deficit Questionnaire-5-item (PDQ-5), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 items (GAD-7), Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale-10 items (CD-RISC10), Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Short Form (CTQ-SF), Three-Item Loneliness Scale, and a single-item sleep quality scale.
    Results: Latent profile analysis (LPA) revealed four distinct psychosocial characteristic patterns: "class 1," "class 2," "class 3," and "class 4." Compared to class 2, individuals in class 1 had a sixfold increased risk of suicidal ideation (OR = 6.59, 95%CI = 4.42-9.81) and a fivefold increased risk of non-suicidal self-injury (OR = 5.13, 95%CI = 3.38-7.78). Similarly, class 4 individuals had twice the risk of suicidal ideation (OR = 2.13, 95%CI = 1.25-3.62) and non-suicidal self-injury (OR = 2.13, 95%CI = 1.25-3.65) compared to class 2. Conversely, class 3 individuals had a lower risk of suicidal ideation (OR = 0.21, 95%CI = 0.11-0.42) and non-suicidal self-injury (OR = 0.15, 95%CI = 0.07-0.36) than class 2. Additionally, divorced/other marital status individuals had a higher risk of suicidal ideation (OR = 2.34, 95%CI = 1.02-5.35) and non-suicidal self-injury (OR = 2.58, 95%CI = 1.01-6.65) compared to married individuals, while unmarried individuals had a lower risk of suicidal ideation (OR = 0.58, 95%CI = 0.37-0.91).
Conclusions: The study identified eight important psychosocial factors divided into four latent pattern classes. Individuals in "class 1" and "class 4" were more likely to have a higher risk of suicidal ideation and non-suicidal self-injury, while those in "class 3" were more likely to have a lower risk of both outcomes. It is suggested that further research should focus on "class 1" and "class 4" for targeted intervention.
