Abstract Carrageenan is an emerging biopolymer for wound healing and regenerative applications. In this study, reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and hydroxyapatite (HAp) nano-composites infused carrageenan bioactive membrane was fabricated. Here, hydroxyapatite was synthesized from cuttlefish bone (CF-HAp) and its properties were compared with that of chemically synthesized HAp. Crystalline Ca

Abstract Background: This study used finite element modeling to investigate stress distribution patterns during treatment with Advan Sync 2 Class II correctors.
Methods: - A 3-D finite element model of the skull was constructed from images obtained from cone-beam computerized tomography images. Surface data of the AdvanSync2, brackets and archwires were derived and used to construct 3-D models. Stress distribution patterns and variations were assessed and quantified during appliance simulation and after advancement by 4 mm using spacers, on the finite element model.
Results: Stress levels were recorded in Megapascals (MPa) and were visualized with a color scale. Maximum stress was evident in the mandible near the neck of condyle, anterior part of ramus and medial part of the coronoid process. Maxillary and mandibular teeth experienced negligible stress. Stress levels increased on advancing the appliance with spacers, though the regions and patterns of stress concentration in the maxilla and mandible remained constant to a great extent.
Conclusion: The AdvanSync2 is an appropriate fixed functional appliance to correct Class II malocclusions with a retrognathic mandible, as it does not apply unnecessary and deleterious stresses on the maxillary and mandibular teeth.

Abstract Currently, bone tuberculosis (TB) treatment largely involves lifelong drug prescriptions and surgical intervention, resulting in poor quality of life for patients. Therefore, the fabrication of injectable scaffolds to form a solid framework around the defective bone region is gaining importance over the extensive use of antimicrobial inhibitors. Herein, we synthesized a novel bone-adhesive and thermoresponsive hydrogel via conjugation of poly(

Abstract The potential of optical polarimetry is increasingly explored to unravel the tissue structure through several optical instrument configurations. Fiber-based solutions offer portability and are accommodative in an endoscopic examination environment. Here, we address the challenges in realizing a fiber-based optical polarimetry system through an approach involving an all-fiber polarization controller. The methods of device calibration and application in bulk tissues are discussed, and results are presented.

Abstract Pollution is ubiquitous, and much of it is anthropogenic in nature, which is a severe risk factor not only for respiratory infections or asthma sufferers but also for Alzheimer's disease, which has received a lot of attention recently. This Review aims to investigate the primary environmental risk factors and their profound impact on Alzheimer's disease. It underscores the pivotal role of multidimensional imaging in early disease identification and prevention. Conducting a comprehensive review, we delved into a plethora of literature sources available through esteemed databases, including Science Direct, Google Scholar, Scopus, Cochrane, and PubMed. Our search strategy incorporated keywords such as "Alzheimer Disease", "Alzheimer's", "Dementia", "Oxidative Stress", and "Phytotherapy" in conjunction with "Criteria Pollutants", "Imaging", "Pathology", and "Particulate Matter". Alzheimer's disease is not only a result of complex biological factors but is exacerbated by the infiltration of airborne particles and gases that surreptitiously breach the nasal defenses to traverse the brain, akin to a Trojan horse. Various imaging modalities and noninvasive techniques have been harnessed to identify disease progression in its incipient stages. However, each imaging approach possesses inherent limitations, prompting exploration of a unified technique under a single umbrella. Multidimensional imaging stands as the linchpin for detecting and forestalling the relentless march of Alzheimer's disease. Given the intricate etiology of the condition, identifying a prospective candidate for Alzheimer's disease may take decades, rendering the development of a multimodal imaging technique an imperative. This research underscores the pressing need to recognize the chronic ramifications of invisible particulate matter and to advance our understanding of the insidious environmental factors that contribute to Alzheimer's disease.

Abstract Aims: To develop a predictive model for Escherichia coli using deep neural networks.
Methods and results: Batch experiments are conducted at different temperatures closer to optimum value (36·5°C, 37°C, 37·5°C, 38°C and 38·5°C) to obtain the growth curves of E .coli K-12. Two primary models namely modified Gompertz and new logistic are chosen. Three secondary models namely Gaussian, nonlinear autoregressive eXogenous (NARX) model and long short-term memory (LSTM) are developed. The novelty in this paper is the development of secondary models using artificial neural network (ANN) and deep network. The performance measures chosen to compare the developed primary and secondary models are correlation coefficient (R
Conclusions: The proposed predictive model exhibit good validation results in terms of RMSE and R
Significance and impact of the study: The proposed model can be used in food processing industries during enzyme production such as Chymosin, to predict the growth rate of E. coli as a function of temperature. Also, the developed LSTM and NARX models can be used to predict maximum specific growth rate of other microbial strains with proper training.
