Abstract The Taishan Antineutrino Observatory (TAO, also known as JUNO-TAO) is a satellite experiment of the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO). A ton-level liquid scintillator detector will be placed at about 30 m from a core of the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant. The reactor antineutrino spectrum will be measured with sub-percent energy resolution, to provide a reference spectrum for future reactor neutrino experiments, and to provide a benchmark measurement to test nuclear databases. A spherical acrylic vessel containing 2.8 ton gadolinium-doped liquid scintillator will be viewed by 10 m^2 Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) of >50% photon detection efficiency with almost full coverage. The photoelectron yield is about 4500 per MeV, an order higher than any existing large-scale liquid scintillator detectors. The detector operates at -50 degree C to lower the dark noise of SiPMs to an acceptable level. The detector will measure about 2000 reactor antineutrinos per day, and is designed to be well shielded from cosmogenic backgrounds and ambient radioactivities to have about 10% background-to-signal ratio. The experiment is expected to start operation in 2022.

Abstract Objective: To study the correlation between episcleral vein pressure (EVP) with intraocular pressure (IOP), exophthalmos, and optic nerve injury in thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) patients and to explore the possibility of higher EVP as an intervention indicator in TAO patients.
Methods: This study was a case-control study, including the TAO group and normal control group. TAO group: 15 patients (30 eyes) were diagnosed with TAO complicated with exophthalmos. Normal control group: 14 cases, 28 eyes. EVP, IOP, exophthalmos, retinal nerve fiber layer thickness, and visual field were measured, respectively in the two groups. Non-parametric test was used to compare the difference between EVP and IOP between the two groups, test the correlation between EVP and IOP or exophthalmos, and analyze the clinical characteristics of optic nerve injury in patients with elevated IOP in the TAO group.
Results: The EVP in the TAO group (15.30±3.48 mmHg) was significantly higher than the normal control group (8.82±1.44 mmHg) (P < .001). The IOP in the TAO group (18.55±8.13 mmHg) was significantly higher than in the normal control group (12.98±2.10 mmHg) (P < .001) (3) There was a positive linear correlation between EVP (X) and IOP (Y) in TAO group: Y = 0.9684x + 3.737 (rs>0, P < .05); There was a positive linear correlation between EVP (Y) and exophthalmos (X) in TAO group: Y = 0.9218x - 2.691 (rs>0, P < .05); Some TAO patients with elevated EVP had the related manifestations of optic nerve function impairment: thinning of retinal nerve fiber layer and loss of visual field. However, there was no clear correlation between EVP and the thickness of the optic nerve fiber layer (P = .4354).
Conclusion: The increase of EVP is an important factor leading to elevated IOP in TAO patients, which may be used as an indicator for intervention treatment in TAO patients. EVP can be used to indirectly evaluate orbital pressure. TAO patients can develop secondary glaucoma with irreversible optic nerve damage due to the continuous Elevation of EVP.

Abstract Objectives: The herbs in Tao Hong Si Wu Decoction (THSWD) are beneficial in the treatment of cognitive impairment. However, the underlying mechanisms of THSWD in treating diabetes-associated cognitive dysfunction (DACD) are not entirely explored. This study is aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of THSWD in DACD model rats and the underlying mechanism.
Methods: Ultra-high-phase liquid chromatography was employed to identify the main compounds contained in the THSWD extract. DACD rat model was induced by feeding with a high-sugar and high-fat diet and injecting streptozotocin (35 mg/kg). DACD rats were gavaged with THSWD for 1 week. The learning and memory abilities of the rats were measured by using the Morris water maze. Western blotting was used to detect the changes in DACD rat targets. Statistical methods were used to evaluate the correlation between proteins.
Results: The results show that THSWD effectively reduced the escape latency, hippocampal neuron damage, glycosylated hemoglobin, type A1C, and blood lipid levels in DACD rats. Furthermore, DACD rats showed significantly increased amyloid precursor protein, β-secretase, Aβ
Conclusions: THSWD can improve the learning and memory abilities of DACD rats by inhibiting the expression of AEGs-AGE receptors pathway, which provides an experimental basis for the clinical application of THSWD. In addition, the experiment combines pharmacological and statistical methods, which offers a new perspective for the study of Chinese herbal medicine.

Abstract Postpartum hemorrhage can lead to a variety of maternal complications. Tao Hong Si Wu Decoction (THSWD) is a traditional Chinese medicine used for treating gynecological diseases. However, the active ingredients of THSWD and its pharmacological mechanism of treatment for postpartum blood stasis still remained unclear. In this study, 201 components were identified in THSWD ethanol extract using ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry, including 59 terpenoids and volatile oil, 61 Phenylpropanoids, 41 flavonoids, 22 alkaloids, and other 18 components. A total of 45 active compounds were identified in the blood and 33 active compounds were identified in the uterine. Taking the common components into the blood and into the uterus combined with network pharmacology. It was demonstrated that the active compounds can bind to the core target with good affinity through molecular docking. The results of this study will provide a reference for the quality control and pharmacodynamic material base research of THSWD.

A total of 27 anticolon cancer targets of THCQF were selected, among which four genes (CCNB1, CCNA2, IL1A, and MMP3) were shown to effectively predict patient outcomes in a prognostic colon cancer model. GO and KEGG enrichment analyses indicated that the activity against colon cancer of THCQF was associated with the interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-3 signaling pathways. Two compounds in THCQF, aloe emodin (AE) and quercetin (QR), were shown to efficiently bind to cyclin B1, the protein encoded by CCNB1. Finally, incubation of HCT116 cells with AE and QR significantly decreased CCNB1 mRNA expression and cyclin B1 levels. Conclusions. Taken together, the results indicate that AE and QR are the pivotal active compounds of THCQF, and CCNB1 is the main molecular target through which THCQF exerts its anticolon ...

Abstract Platelet microparticles (PMPs) are membrane particles derived from the platelet membrane that enter into the blood circulation. We sought to explore the therapeutic effects of Tao-Hong-Si-Wu Decoction (THSWD) on angiogenesis in a rat model of cerebral ischaemia-reperfusion (I/R). The protective effect of THSWD on I/R rats was observed morphologically by immunohistochemical expression of VEGF and CD34, along with immunofluorescence results of co-expression of BrdU and vWF. Then, PMPs from different groups of rats were extracted, and cytokine array analysis was used to screen for angiogenesis associated proteins. The results showed that THSWD can promote the expression of VEGF, CD34, BrdU and vWF. Cytokine array analysis revealed the changes in the expression of 29 related angiogenic proteins in the total protein of PMPs, which involved the Notch signalling pathway. Compared with model group, the expression levels of NICD and Hes-1 in the THSWD group were significantly increased. In the context of I/R, the angiogenesis-related proteins of PMPs are different. THSWD may involve the promotion of activation of the Notch signalling pathway to achieve therapeutic effects on cerebral ischaemia.

Abstract Photocatalytic H₂ generation by water splitting is a promising alternative for producing renewable fuels. This work synthesized a new type of Ta₂O₅/SrZrO₃ heterostructure with Ru and Cu (RuO₂/CuₓO/Ta₂O₅/SrZrO₃) using solid-state chemistry methods to achieve a high H₂ production of 5164 μmol g–¹ h–¹ under simulated solar light, 39 times higher than that produced using SrZrO₃. The heterostructure performance is compared with other Ta₂O₅/SrZrO₃ heterostructure compositions loaded with RuO₂, CuₓO, or Pt. CuₓO is used to showcase the usage of less costly cocatalysts to produce H₂. The photocatalytic activity toward H₂ by the RuO₂/CuₓO/Ta₂O₅/SrZrO₃ heterostructure remains the highest, followed by RuO₂/Ta₂O₅/SrZrO₃ > CuₓO/Ta₂O₅/SrZrO₃ > Pt/Ta₂O₅/SrZrO₃ > Ta₂O₅/SrZrO₃ > SrZrO₃. Band gap tunability and high optical absorbance in the visible region are more prominent for the heterostructures containing cocatalysts (RuO₂ or CuₓO) and are even higher for the binary catalyst (RuO₂/CuₓO). The presence of the binary catalyst is observed to impact the charge carrier transport in Ta₂O₅/SrZrO₃, improving the solar to hydrogen conversion efficiency. The results represent a valuable contribution to the design of SrZrO₃-based heterostructures for photocatalytic H₂ production by solar water splitting.
