Abstract In this work, a new analytical method was developed and validated for the determination of the total content of 21 per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in paper- and cardboard-based food contact materials (FCMs). This method is based on green ultrasound-assisted lixiviation followed by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS). The method was validated in various paper- and cardboard-based FCMs, showing good linearity (

Abstract A GC-HRMS analytical method for the determination of 60 migrant substances, including aldehydes, ketones, phthalates and other plasticizers, phenol derivatives, acrylates, and methacrylates, in plastic food contact materials (FCM) has been developed and validated. The proposed method includes migration tests, according to Commission Regulation (EU) 10/2011, using four food simulants (A, B, C, and D1), followed by vortex-assisted liquid-liquid extraction (VA-LLE) and GC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS analysis in selected ion monitoring (SIM) mode, with a resolving power of 30,000 FWHM and a mass accuracy ≤5 ppm. The method was validated, showing satisfactory linearity (R

Abstract Transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) have emerged as both particularly appealing epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) materials and remarkable candidates for the design and fabrication of active silicon nanophotonic devices. However, the leverage of TCO's ultrafast nonlinearities requires precise control of the intricate physical mechanisms that take place upon excitation. Here we investigate such behavior for ultrafast all-optical phase switching in hybrid TCO-silicon waveguides through numerical simulation. The model is driven from the framework of intraband-transition-induced optical nonlinearity. Transient evolution is studied with a phenomenological two-temperature model. Our results reveal the best compromise between energy consumption, insertion losses and phase change per unit length for enabling ultrafast switching times below 100 fs and compact active lengths in the order of several micrometers.

Abstract Phase-change integrated photonics has emerged as a new platform for developing photonic integrated circuits by integrating phase-change materials like GeSbTe (GST) onto the silicon photonics platform. The thickness of the GST patch that is usually placed on top of the waveguide is crucial for ensuring high optical performance. In this work, we investigate the impact of the GST thickness in terms of optical performance through numerical simulation and experiment. We show that higher-order modes can be excited in a GST-loaded silicon waveguide with relatively thin GST thicknesses (<100 nm), resulting in a dramatic reduction in the extinction ratio. Our results would be useful for designing high-performance GST/Si-based photonic devices such as non-volatile memories that could find utility in many emerging applications.

Abstract This article presents an overview of the models applied to sustainable inventory management in supply chains and a roadmap for new research. It aims to address the lack of understanding of how sustainability is being incorporated into quantitative inventory management models in the supply chain context. The study is based on a classification of the reviewed literature according to the following criteria: supply chain structure, environmental approach, problem type, modeling, and solution approach. As a result, 36 articles were analyzed and classified. The main findings show that studies that incorporate social sustainability into inventory management along supply chains are lacking, while environmental studies are a growing research area. Uncertainty issues also need to be incorporated into sustainable inventory management models. Another important result of this study is the definition of a roadmap with trends and future research guidelines. The identified future research guidelines include incorporating decisions that can help to improve economic, environmental, and social sustainability. Thus, future studies should focus on both following quantitative models that incorporate inventory decisions integrally with transportation and location decisions, and more complex models, and employing new algorithms and heuristics to solve them.
