Abstract With the continual advancement of coal resource development, the comprehensive utilization of coal gangue as a by-product encounters certain constraints. A substantial amount of untreated coal gangue is openly stored, particularly acidic gangue exposed to rainfall. The leaching effect of acidic solutions, containing heavy metal ions and other pollutants, results in environmental challenges such as local soil or groundwater pollution, presenting a significant concern in the current ecological landscape of mining areas. Investigating the migration patterns of pollutants in the soil-groundwater system and elucidating the characteristics of polluted solute migration are imperative. To understand the migration dynamics of pollutants and unveil the features of solute migration, this study focuses on a coal gangue dump in a mining area in Shanxi. Utilizing indoor leaching experiments and soil column migration experiments, a two-dimensional soil-groundwater model is established using the finite element method of COMSOL. This model quantitatively delineates the migration patterns of key pollutant components leached from coal gangue into the groundwater. The findings reveal that sulfate ions can migrate and infiltrate groundwater within a mere 7 years in the vadose zone of aeration. Moreover, the average concentration of iron ions in groundwater can reach approximately 58.3 mg/L. Convection, hydrodynamic dispersion, and adsorption emerge as the primary factors influencing pollution transport. Understanding the leaching patterns and environmental impacts of major pollutants in acidic coal gangue is crucial for predicting soil-groundwater pollution and implementing effective protective measures.

Abstract Risk factors that contribute to the development of heart failure include chronic kidney disease and diabetes. Elderly patients with diabetic nephropathy are more likely to develop heart failure. We analysed laboratory data and clinical characteristics of elderly patients with diabetic nephropathy to explore the risk factors for therapeutic effect of acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF). One hundred and five elderly patients with diabetic nephropathy, admitted in the Nephrology Ward of Baoding No1 Central Hospital Baoding, China, between June 2018 and June 2020, were enrolled in this study. They were classified as biochemically unaltered group (21 cases) and biochemically recovering group (84 cases). The clinical data, laboratory examination, therapy, and outcome of the participants were collected for analysis retrospectively. Low-density lipoprotein (LDL), C-reactive protein (CRP) and 24-hour urine protein are independent risk factors for the therapeutic efficacy of ADHF in elderly patients with diabetic nephropathy.

Abstract Aneurysms of the middle meningeal artery (MMA) are exceedingly uncommon and mainly result from traumatic brain damage, but this report describes a case of MMA aneurysm induced by cranial surgery. Surgery was performed on a 34-year-old male with cerebrovascular malformation and cerebral hemorrhage. Cerebral angiography revealed no MMA aneurysm before craniocerebral surgery; however, a postoperative angiogram revealed a new MMA aneurysm. Aneurysms of the MMA are uncommon consequences of brain surgery. Based on our findings, the MMA as well as other meningeal arteries should be avoided while suturing the dura mater tent to prevent aneurysms.
