    Abstract Background: Technology-mediated interventions help overcome barriers to program delivery and spread metabolic syndrome prevention programs on a large scale. A meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the impact of these technology-mediated interventions on metabolic syndrome prevention. Methods: In this meta-analysis, from 30 January 2018, three databases were searched to evaluate interventions using techniques to propagate diet and exercise lifestyle programs for adult patients with metabolic syndrome or metabolic risk. Results: Search results found 535 citations. Of these, 18 studies met the inclusion criteria analyzed in this article. The median duration of intervention was 4 months and the follow-up period ranged from 1.5 to 30 months. The standardized mean difference (SMD) between the two groups was waist circumference −0.35 (95% CI −0.54, −0.15), triglyceride −0.14 (95% CI −0.26, −0.03), fasting blood glucose −0.31 (95% CI −0.42, −0.19), body weight −1.34 (95% CI −2.04, −0.64), and body mass index −1.36 (95% CI −2.21, −0.51). There was no publication bias in this study. Conclusion: Technology-mediated intervention improved clinically important metabolic syndrome related indicators such as excess body fat around the waist, fasting glucose, and body mass index. These interventions will play an important role in the dissemination of metabolic syndrome prevention programs.

    Abstract Ethnopharmacological relevance: Paeoniae Radix Rubra (PRR), the root of Paeonia lactiflora Pall., is a traditional Chinese medicine which has the effects of regulating various inflammatory diseases, treating blood stasis, and enhancing blood circulation.
    Aim of the study: This study examined whether Paeoniae Radix rubra extract (PRRE) and Paeoniflorin (PF) affect mucin production, gene expression including MUC5AC, and protein expression related to the ERK pathway induced by TNF-α from human airway epithelial cells.
    Materials and methods: NCI-H292 cells induced by TNF-α were treated with each agent. MUC5AC mucin gene expression and mucin protein production were measured by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, staining, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Western blot was used to investigate the cell signaling pathways.
    Results: PRRE and PF inhibited the production of MUC5AC mucin protein and gene expression in TNF-α-induced H292 cells. In Western blot, PRRE was involved in protein expression related to the ERK pathway.
    Conclusions: Overall, PRRE effectively inhibited the MUC5AC, and inflammatory cytokines expression caused by TNF-α, which was closely involved in the ERK pathway. PRRE may have the potential for treating mucus producing respiratory inflammation.

    Abstract Background and purpose: Giant-cell arteritis (GCA) is the most common type of vasculitis in the elderly and is associated with high risks of visual loss and recurrence. Owing to its rarity in Asian populations, the current clinical interventions for these patients are not well known. Here we aimed to characterize the current management status of patients with GCA using Korean multicenter data.
    Methods: This retrospective study analyzed medical records of patients with GCA at six Korean university hospitals from February 2009 to November 2022. GCA had originally been diagnosed based on the 1990 American College of Rheumatology (ACR) criteria, and cases were selected for inclusion in this study based on the 2022 ACR/European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology criteria. We evaluated treatments, follow-up periods, and outcomes (relapse, remission, and adverse drug reactions) in patients with GCA with or without arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (AAION).
    Results: This study analyzed 18 patients with a median age of 75.5 years that included 12 females (66.7%). Seven patients (38.8%) had AAION. All patients initially received prednisolone treatment, while four (22.2%) underwent adjuvant treatment with methotrexate and azathioprine during prednisolone tapering. During the median follow-up of 3.5 months (interquartile range: 2.0-23.2 months), 4 patients (22.2%) had prednisolone-related adverse reactions, 2 (11.1%) relapsed, and 13 (72.3%) dropped out. Nine patients (50.0%) experienced remission, with this being sustained in four (36.4%).
    Conclusions: This study observed high dropout rates and short follow-ups. Adverse effects of prednisolone were common, and relapses occurred in approximately one-tenth of Korean patients with GCA. Thus, optimizing GCA treatment necessitates regular monitoring and long-term follow-up.

    Abstract Objective: To summarize major results from imaging studies investigating brain structure in migraine.
    Background: Neuroimaging studies, using several different imaging and analysis techniques, have demonstrated aberrations in brain structure associated with migraine. This narrative review summarizes key imaging findings and relates imaging findings with clinical features of migraine.
    Methods: We searched PubMed for English language articles using the key words "neuroimaging" AND/OR "MRI" combined with "migraine" through August 20, 2020. The titles and abstracts of resulting articles were reviewed for their possible inclusion in this manuscript, followed by examination of the full texts and reference lists of relevant articles.
    Results: Migraine is associated with structural brain aberrations within regions that participate in pain processing, the processing of other sensory stimuli, multisensory integration, and in white matter fiber tracts. Furthermore, migraine is associated with magnetic resonance imaging T2/fluid-attenuated inversion recovery white matter hyperintensities. Some structural aberrations are correlated with the severity and clinical features of migraine, whereas others are not. These findings suggest that some structural abnormalities are associated with or amplified by recurrent migraine attacks, whereas others are intrinsic to the migraine brain.
    Conclusions: Migraine is associated with aberrant brain structure. Structural neuroimaging studies contribute to understanding migraine pathophysiology and identification of brain regions associated with migraine and its individual symptoms. Additional work is needed to determine the extent to which structural aberrations are a result of recurrent migraine attacks, and perhaps reversible with effective treatment or migraine resolution, versus being intrinsic traits of the migraine brain.

    Abstract This study established a network related to nurses' job stress by conducting a social network analysis of titles, keywords, and abstracts, and it identified emerging topics of research. NetMiner 4.0 visualized an interconnection between critical keywords and investigated their frequency of appearance to construe the trends in nurses' job stress measures used in studies conducted over 55 years (1960-2015). Text Rank Analyzer examined a collection of 9,218 keywords from 2,662 studies. The analysis revealed four groups of newly emerging keywords in the research. The following five clusters were identified: concept, subject, method and tool, outcome and response, and solution and management. Thus, if new researchers refer to existing trends to establish the subject of their study, replication studies can be reduced, and the direction of the development of future research on nurses' job stress can be predicted. Further application of new interventions, development of objective indicators, working environment, and broader participants are needed.

    Abstract Background: Inotodiol has been proven to have antitumor, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antiallergic properties. This study investigated the immunomodulatory capability of inotodiol in allergic rhinitis (AR) mice.
    Methods: Forty BALB/c mice were divided into four groups, 10 mice each: control (CON), AR with phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) treatment (AR), inotodiol treatment (AR+Ino), and dexamethasone treatment (AR+Dex). Episodes of sneezing and nose rubbing were counted. Cytokines in nasal lavage fluid (NLF) and immunoglobulin in blood serum were measured. Nasal mucosae from each group were used for protein, reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), and histological analyses. Splenocytes were cultured for evaluation of cytokine production in each group.
    Results: Symptoms of rubbing and sneezing improved in the group of AR+Ino and AR+Dex than in the AR. NLF in the AR+Ino and AR+Dex also showed a significant decrease in interleukin (IL)-5, IL-10, and IL-13 compared to the AR. In addition, the number of eosinophils, goblet cells, and mast cells were notably lower in the nasal mucosae of the AR+Ino and AR+Dex. IL-4 and IL-17A in the AR+Ino and AR+Dex groups were decreased compared to the AR. Chemokines related to mast cell degradation were also decreased in the AR+Ino and AR+Dex groups. Total immunoglobulin (Ig)E, specific IgE and ovalbumin (OVA)-specific IgG1, and histamine levels were also significantly lower in the AR+Ino and AR+Dex groups. IL-10 and IL-13 were notably increased in the splenocytes of the AR after OVA stimulation, whereas the other groups showed no change.
    Conclusion: These results indicate inotodiol can help suppress allergic responses by immunomodulation activities.
