Abstract Traditional methods to assess dietary intake have limited and questionable application in visually impaired people since the lack of vision and low leading role in their diet make it difficult to quantify and detail the food consumed throughout the day. Thus, this study investigated whether it is possible to accurately identify foods and estimate their quantities using food records based on photographic images captured by visually impaired people. A panel of experts composed of nutritionists (n = 20) assessed these records comprising three standardized meals (breakfast; lunch/dinner; snack) from visually impaired people (n = 40) using two different protocols (frontal photo; aerial photo). Each nutritionist reported an estimated food record for each photographic image, which was compared to its respective weighed food record. For both frontal and aerial photos, experts were frequently correct for the number of food items in the meal (95.0% or over for breakfast, 100% for lunch/dinner, and 100% for snacks). All experts identified at least 11 of the 13 food items, but the majority correctly estimated the food amount only for 23% of the items. Compared to the weighed food record, the photographic records underestimated the amount of 61.5% of food items based on frontal photos, and of 76.9% of food items based on aerial photos. While most foods could be identified by photographic images captured by visually impaired people enabling a qualitative assessment of the diet, they could not be quantified accurately by nutritionists.

Abstract Objective: To develop and validate protocols for photographed food record directed to visually impaired people.
Design: Photographic techniques were established for capturing food images using a smartphone, and written protocols were defined. Thereafter, visually impaired people made photographic records of three standardised meals (breakfast, lunch/dinner, and snack) following the previously developed protocols. These photographs were then evaluated by a panel of experts (nutritionists and photographer) to indicate whether the framing, focus and angle were suitable to identify the food type, food amount and portion size. Agreement between the experts was assessed using Fleiss' Kappa.
Setting: Natal, the capital of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil.
    Participants: Visually impaired people (n 40); nutritionists (n 2); professional photographer (n 1).
Results: Both protocols obtained a high proportion of satisfactory photos for all the items in the three dimensions investigated. When overall quality was assessed, the experts' agreement was a substantial that through the images it would be possible to identify the food type and portion size, both for Frontal Photos (k = 0·70 and k = 0·62, respectively) and Aerial Photos (k = 0·68 and k = 0·70, respectively). The degree of agreement that the photos presented a satisfactory global quality was moderate for the Frontal Photo (k = 0·43) and substantial for the Aerial Photo (k = 0·64). Participants who frequently used smartphone-type cell phones obtained better quality images for all these attributes for both protocols.
Conclusions: The protocols for photographed food record developed for visually impaired people in this study are feasible and present themselves as an alternative strategy to qualitatively assess their dietary intake.

Abstract Background: Inequities in access to education, work and health care are striking among persons with disabilities, making this population more vulnerable to poverty, lack of access to basic services and violation of rights such as access to food. Household food insecurity (HFI), marked by precarious income, has increased among persons with disabilities. In Brazil, the Continuous Cash Benefit (In Portuguese, Benefício de Prestação Continuada - BPC) is the guarantee of a minimum wage for persons with disabilities as a measure to promote social security and access to income in a situation of extreme poverty. Thus, the objective of this study was to assess HFI among persons with disabilities in extreme poverty in Brazil.
Methods: A cross-sectional study with national representation was carried out with data from the 2017/2018 Family Budget Survey, with moderate and severe food insecurity as the dependent variable, and the situation of food insecurity measured using the Brazilian Food Insecurity Scale. Prevalence and odds ratio estimates were generated with 99% confidence intervals.
Findings: Approximately 25% of households experienced HFI, with a higher prevalence in the North Region (41%), receiving up to 1 income quintile (36.6%), with a female (26.2%) and black person (31%) as a reference. The analysis model found that region, per capita household income, and social benefits received in the household were statistically significant factors.
Interpretation: The BPC proved to be an important source of household income for persons with disabilities living in extreme poverty in Brazil: in almost three-quarters of the households, it was the only social benefit received, and, for most of them, it represented more than half of the total household income.
Funding: This research did not receive any specific grant from funding agencies in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.

Abstract Background and aims The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many changes in the nutritional care process as a result of the social distancing measures imposed, especially in the assessment of nutritional status, in which obtaining anthropometric measures is necessary. Methods Critical review of the international anthropometry literature, in the light of the recent scientific evidence of COVID-19. Results This paper presents recommendations for anthropometric assessment of the nutritional status of people in ambulatory settings for both remote and in-person assessment. The most appropriate measures to the current pandemic scenario are also discussed, in order to contribute to the monitoring of nutritional status and to minimize health impacts. results Conclusion When sanitary conditions cannot be guaranteed during in-person encounters or when the person cannot attend the office of the professional, the remote anthropometric assessment can be a useful strategy to nutritional surveillance. conclusions.

Abstract Objective: To evaluate the perception of body image among imprisoned women in relation to the current body size, body before imprisonment, and the ideal body. Methodology: A cross-sectional study carried out with 149 female prisoners from Natal, State of Rio Brande do Norte, Brazil. The perception of body image was assessed using a figure rating scale validated for Brazilian people, containing 15 silhouette figures and their respective values of body mass index. Each participant indicated the figure reflecting her current body size (at the time of the interview), her body before incarceration, and the body she would like to have. The analysis of the concept of ideal body and the perception of changes in their bodies after imprisonment was performed using the chi- square test, considering p-value <0.05 for statistical significance. Results and discussion: Half of prisoners perceived themselves to be obese (50.3%) or overweight (26.8%). Regarding the desired body, 83.8% would like to be overweight, and 40% of obese women want to maintain their body size or even increase it. Thus, it was found that body image and ideal body in prison environment are very complex issues, going beyond the slim beautiful body traditionally desired by most women. Conclusion: The high proportion of female convicts who are overweight and who yearn for even more robust bodies points to the need to intensify health actions; further research within the scope of Social and Human Sciences; as well as qualified healthcare professionals to work in these institutions. Abstract Objective: To verify the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia according to sexual maturation stages and its association with overweight as well as excessive body fat in adolescents.
Design: A school-based cross-sectional study was performed. Anemia was assessed by measuring the hemoglobin level (Hb). Nutritional status was defined by sex and age specific body mass index (BMI) cutoffs, and body fat (BF) was determined by bioelectrical impedance. Sexual maturation was assessed by breasts/genitalia and pubic hair development stages. Statistical analyses considered the effect of cluster sampling design (classes) and sampling expansion corrected by relative weight. Odds ratio and general linear modeling were used to assess the associations, regarding the value of p < 0.05 for statistical significance.
Setting: Public schools in the Metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Subjects: Probabilistic sample of 707 teenagers between 11.0 and 19.9 years old.
Results: The prevalence of anemia among the adolescents was 22.8% (95%CI 16.7-30.2%), higher among girls than among boys (30.9% vs. 10.9%; p < 0.01). The chance of developing anemia did not change with the nutritional status according BMI or BF percentage, however, overweight girls presented lower Hb levels than those who were not overweight (12.2 g/dL vs. 12.8 g/dL, p < 0.01). In boys this association was not observed. Sexual maturation did not change the association of Hb and anemia with overweight and excessive body fat.
Conclusion: The reduction of Hb levels points at overweight as a risk factor for the development of iron deficiency among adolescents.
