Abstract In an attempt to find a new class of antimicrobial agents, a series 2-pyridinone and 2-iminochromene derivatives containing Lidocaine analogue were designed and synthesized. The 2-pyridinone derivatives (3), (4), and (6) were obtained through the cyclocondensation of 2-cyano-N-(2,6-dimethylphenyl)-acetamide (2) with 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and/or ternary condensation of (2), aromatic aldehyde, and malononitrile. Also, a series of 2-iminochromene derivatives (7–9) were synthesized through the condensation reaction of cyanoacetamide derivative (2) with salicylaldehyde derivatives. The structure of the new compounds were confirmed based on elemental analysis and spectral data. These compounds were screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activity The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) (µg/mL) of the most active (4), (5b), and (8) derivatives were determined. The MIC values between 7.81 and 31.26 µg/mL against bacterial species for (8) derivative, and upon comparison to tetracycline exhibited a positive control MIC (31.26–62.6 µg/mL). Besides, the activity against C. albicans (ATCC 1023) showed a MIC value of 15.63 µg/mL, which is similar to that of Amphotericin B.

Abstract Thiophene-2-carbohydrazide was used in this study to produce some thiophene-containing oxadiazole, triazole, and thiazolidinone derivatives through reactions with various carbon-centered electrophiles. Besides, the hydrazone obtained was allowed to react with mercaptoacetic acid and acetic anhydride to construct thiazolidinone and oxadiazole derivatives. The results of computational chemical study and outcomes of the experiments were in good agreement. The

Abstract Background Awareness and knowledge about the endocrown technique contribute to the delivery of quality dental care and restorative long-term success. Dentists must be aware and knowledgeable about endocrowns as they offer a conservative approach, aid in maintaining tooth integrity, and have become a promising option in use recently. Aim This study evaluated the current state of knowledge, and the understanding of the endocrown technique as post-endodontic management among senior undergraduate dental students and interns who have studied the theoretical and laboratory procedures of endocrown as part of the curriculum. Materials and methods This cross-sectional investigation was conducted through an online questionnaire consisting of 21 questions in three parts. The first part consisted of demographic information; the second encompassed knowledge and attitude; and the third part evaluated skills regarding endocrown technique. A total of 164 voluntary dental students and dental intern questionnaires were evaluated. Factor analysis was used to identify the domains for knowledge and skill. Results In this study, the knowledge and skills of undergraduate dental students toward endocrowns were assessed. The reliability statistics showed favorable internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha values: 0.513 for knowledge and 0.729 for skill component 1). Significant correlations were noticed between knowledge component 1 and skill component 1 (r = 0.647, p < 0.001), knowledge component 1 and skill component 2 (r = 0.333, p < 0.001), and knowledge component 1 and skill component 3 (r = 0.260, p = 0.001). These findings emphasize the importance of evaluating students' understanding of endocrown. Significant differences were found among intern participants, fifth- and sixth-year dental students in component 1 of the knowledge (p-value<0.001), and all skills components. Conclusion Dental students have varying levels of knowledge and skills related to endocrown. Gaps in knowledge and skills have been detected, which dictates intervention actions, including curricular changes and training workshops.

Abstract Background Breastfeeding and complementary feeding are essential for baby health and nutrition. Concerning these feeding habits, there is a dearth of information on mother awareness and behaviors in Saudi Arabia. This study intends to evaluate maternal knowledge of breastfeeding and complementary feeding in Al Baha City, Saudi Arabia. Methodology This cross-sectional prospective study was conducted among mothers in Al Baha City, Saudi Arabia. Data were collected using a structured electronic questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics and a chi-square test. Results We received 524 responses. The majority of participants (358, 68.2%) were found to have sufficient understanding of breastfeeding and complementary feeding. Four hundred and forty participants (84%) were aware that breastfeeding should begin immediately after birth, but only 250 (47.7%) participants knew the proper time to start complementary feeding. Three hundred and ninety-six (75.6%) participants were aware of the proper duration of exclusive breastfeeding, whereas 128 (24.4%) of them did not know. The study showed that factors such as occupation, family economic status, and educational level influence maternal knowledge of complementary feeding.  Conclusions The study revealed that the majority of participants had good knowledge about breastfeeding and complementary feeding. The study highlights effective training and public awareness initiatives aimed at improving mothers' knowledge and practices regarding feeding. Additionally, it sheds light on the healthcare providers' exemplary knowledge and attitudes toward appropriate feeding practices among mothers in Al Baha City.

Abstract Cancer, a life-disturbing and lethal disease with a high global impact, causes significant economic, social, and health challenges. Breast cancer refers to the abnormal growth of cells originating from breast tissues. Hormone-dependent forms of breast cancer, such as those influenced by estrogen, prompt the exploration of estrogen receptors as targets for potential therapeutic interventions. In this study, we conducted e-QSAR molecular docking and molecular dynamics analyses on a diverse set of inhibitors targeting estrogen receptor alpha (ER-α). The e-QSAR model is based on a genetic algorithm combined with multilinear regression analysis. The newly developed model possesses a balance between predictive accuracy and mechanistic insights adhering to the OECD guidelines. The e-QSAR model pointed out that sp

Abstract Background Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a condition characterized by impaired glucose tolerance that develops during pregnancy. The prevalence of GDM is increasing globally, including in the Al-Baha region of Saudi Arabia. However, there needs to be more data on the awareness of women in this region regarding GDM and its associated risks. This research aimed to evaluate the level of awareness among women in the Al-Baha region regarding GDM. Methodology This study followed an observational cross-sectional design conducted from April 2023 to December 2023. A simple random sampling technique was used to select 457 participants from the resident women of reproductive age in the Al-Baha region. Data were collected through a self-administered questionnaire that assessed knowledge and awareness of GDM risk factors, assessment, therapy, and implications. The questionnaire included a 12-item section evaluating GDM awareness, with correct answers receiving a score of 1. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data with Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS, version 28) (IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Armonk, NY). Results The majority of participants fell into the age group of more than 36 years (n=207, 45.3%), with a significant proportion having completed university/diploma education (n=282, 61.7%), and most of them worked outside the health sector (n=283, 61.9%). Approximately 27.8% correctly identified that the number of pregnancies does not increase the chance of developing GDM. Only (n=48, 10.5%) accurately identified the usual time for diagnosing GDM in the absence of risk factors, which is between weeks 24 and 28 of pregnancy. Similarly, 26.0% (119 participants) correctly recognized a history of a previous pregnancy with a child weighing more than 4.5 kg as a factor that increases the suspicion of developing GDM in the future. However, it is important to note that the majority of participants (n=311, 68.1%) had a poor level of awareness regarding GDM. Conclusion The findings revealed that the overall level of knowledge about GDM was poor, with less than 10% of participants demonstrating adequate awareness. The study also highlighted that over 80% of the participants were unaware of GDM.
