Abstract With the rapid development of technologies, the third generation semiconductor is being studied, as it is leading to the significant change in industry like the manufacture of PC, mobile devices, lighting etc. Till now, due to its irreplaceable physical characteristics, third generation semiconductor is applied to lots of fields. This paper analyzes the application of third generation semiconductor, namely, GaN and SiC. Their characteristics including advantages as well as disadvantages will be discussed through reviewing the result of relevant researches. Meanwhile, comparison between the third generation semiconductors and the second as well as the first generation semiconductors is made in this paper. Through the comparison of physical characteristics, recent marketing, production and limitations, the advantages and disadvantages of each semiconductor is analyzed and the suggestion of how to avoid the disadvantage through application is proposed. At last, the future development is predicted. According to the analysis result of this paper, silicon poses more merits. Silicon is not only cheaper but also performs better making it a preference of GaAs, and GaN in the domain of IC. The second generation semiconductor, GaAs, is widely used in the circuits and photoelectric integration. Furthermore, the third semiconductor material GaN is a promising material for power switching and communication and has the great possibility to play a crucial role in market.

Abstract Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites have an active sensor on board, which emits electromagnetic signals and measures the strength and time delay of the returned signal backscattered from ground objects. Optical images have rich spectral information, but it is easily affected by atmospheric attenuation and weather conditions. Thus, the study of the registration between these two images is of great significance. We present a novel method for SAR and optical image registration. In the stage of feature points extraction, the method combines phase consistency intensity screening and scale space grid division to obtain stable and uniform feature points from the image. During the stage of feature description, the method employs the extended phase consistency method to calculate the gradient amplitude and direction of the image, and improves the correctness of the main direction calculation and descriptor construction. Experimental results demonstrate its superior matching performance with respect to the state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract ObjectivesIn China influenza remains a low activity for continuous 3 years due to COVID-19 controls. We here sought to study the clinical characteristics and risk factors of the influenza infection among children after the mandatory COVID-19 restrictions were lifted.MethodsWe included 1,006 pediatric patients with influenza A virus (IAV) infection, enrolled in one tertiary hospital in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, China, during February to April 2023. Patients were divided into the outpatient (n = 798) and inpatient (n = 208) groups, and their baseline characteristics were compared between two groups to conclude the risk factors for pediatric hospitalization. Separately, pediatric inpatients (n = 208) were further divided into the pneumonia and non-pneumonia groups with comparison of their clinical characteristics, including their laboratory test results and representative radiological features, to derive the key determinants for pneumonia development after hospitalization.ResultsCompared to outpatients, IAV-infected pediatric inpatients exhibited younger age, higher female: male ratio, more co-infection of influenza B virus (IBV) and hematological abnormality. Multivariate regression analysis determined the independent risk factors of hospitalization to be the clinical symptom of abdominal pain (OR = 2.63, [95% CI, 1.05–6.57], p = 0.039), co-infection of IBV (OR = 44.33, [95% CI, 25.10–78.30], p = 0.001), elevated levels of lymphocytes (OR = 2.24, [95% CI,1.65–3.05], p = 0.001) and c-reactive proteins (CRPs) (OR = 1.06, [95% CI, 1.03–1.08], p = 0.001) upon hospital admission. Furthermore, the cough symptom (OR = 17.39, [95% CI, 3.51–86.13], p = 0.001) and hospitalization length (OR = 1.36, [95% CI, 1.12–1.67], p = 0.002) were determined to be risk factors of pneumonia acquirement for pediatric inpatients.ConclusionWhile the abdominal pain, viral co-infection and some hematological abnormality mainly contribute to hospitalization of pediatric patients with IAV infection, the length of hospital stay and clinical ...

Abstract Neurodegenerative diseases, characterized by abnormal deposition of misfolded proteins, often present with progressive loss of neurons. Chronic neuroinflammation is a striking hallmark of neurodegeneration. Microglia, as the primary immune cells in the brain, is the main type of cells that participate in the formation of inflammatory microenvironment. Cytoplasmic free mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), a common component of damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), can activate the cGas/stimulator of interferon genes (STING) signalling, which subsequently produces type I interferon and proinflammatory cytokines. There are various sources of free mtDNA in microglial cytoplasm, but mitochondrial oxidative stress accumulation plays the vital role. The upregulation of cGas/STING pathway in microglia contributes to the abnormal and persistent microglial activation, accompanied by excessive secretion of neurotoxic inflammatory mediators such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), which exacerbates the damage of neurons and promotes the development of neurodegeneration. Currently, novel therapeutic approaches need to be found to delay the progression of neurodegenerative disorders, and regulation of the cGas/STING signaling in microglia may be a potential target.

Abstract Aiming at improving the performance of scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) algorithm during the registration of optical and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images, a new SIFT algorithm is proposed. Firstly, the nonlinear diffusion scale space of optical and SAR images is constructed by using nonlinear diffusion filtering, the uniform gradient information is calculated by using multi-scale Sobel operator and multi-scale exponential weighted mean ratio operator respectively. Then, after removing the first layer of the scale space with the image blocking strategy, the scale space is partitioned, and Harris feature points are extracted on the basis of consistent gradient information to obtain stable and uniform point features. Descriptors are constructed based on gradient position and direction histogram templates and normalized to overcome nonlinear radiation differences between images. Finally, the correct matching point pairs are obtained by using bilateral fast approximate nearest neighbor (FLANN) search matching method and random sampling consistent (RANSAC) method, and the affine transformation model parameters are obtained. Compared with the other two algorithms, the CMR of this algorithm is improved by 80.53%, 75.61% and 81.74% respectively in the three groups of images, and the RMSE is reduced by 0.6491, 1.0287 and 0.6306 respectively.

Abstract Multiple analysis of miRNAs is essential for the early diagnosis and monitoring of diseases. Here, a programmable, multiplex, and sensitive approach was developed for one-pot detection of miRNAs by melting temperature encoded sequences and exponential isothermal amplification (E-EXPAR). In the presence of target miRNAs, the corresponding templates initiate the cycles of nicking and polymerization/displacement, generating numerous barcode strands with unique encoding sequences. Subsequently, generated barcode strands hybridize with fluorescent probes and quench the fluorophore by a triplet of G base through a photo-induced electron transfer mechanism. Finally, a melting curve analysis is performed to quantify miRNAs by calculating the rate of fluorescence change at the corresponding melting temperature. Based on this, miRNA-21, miRNA-9, and miRNA-122 were detected with the detection limits of 3.3 fM, 2.9 fM, and 1.7 fM, respectively. This E-EXPAR was also employed to simultaneously detect three miRNAs in biological samples, showing consistent results with RT-qPCR. Overall, this study provides a programmable and universal platform for multiplex analysis of miRNAs, and holds great promise as an alternative to the multiplex analysis in clinical diagnostics and prognostics for nucleic acid detection.
