Abstract The applications of nanoreactors in biology are becoming increasingly significant and prominent. Specifically, nanoreactors with spatially confined, due to their exquisite design that effectively limits the spatial range of biomolecules, attracted widespread attention. The main advantage of this structure is designed to improve reaction selectivity and efficiency by accumulating reactants and catalysts within the chambers, thus increasing the frequency of collisions between reactants. Herein, the recent progress in the synthesis of spatially confined nanoreactors and their biological applications is summarized, covering various kinds of nanoreactors, including porous inorganic materials, porous crystalline materials with organic components and self-assembled polymers to construct nanoreactors. These design principles underscore how precise reaction control could be achieved by adjusting the structure and composition of the nanoreactors to create spatial confined. Furthermore, various applications of spatially confined nanoreactors are demonstrated in the biological fields, such as biocatalysis, molecular detection, drug delivery, and cancer therapy. These applications showcase the potential prospects of spatially confined nanoreactors, offering robust guidance for future research and innovation.

Abstract Lung cancer is a harmful type of malignancy and the leading cause of cancer-associated mortality. It is therefore imperative to develop novel drugs effective for treating this cancer. The Traditional Chinese Medicine compound Britannin has been previously reported to inhibit the development of certain cancers, such as pancreatic, breast and liver cancer. Moreover, Kruppel-like factor 5 (KLF5) has been identified an on oncogene in lung cancer. In the present study, the possible regulatory effects and underlying mechanism of Britannin in lung cancer were investigated. A549 and 16HBE cells were treated with different concentrations of Britannin. Subsequently, Cell counting kit-8, EdU staining and colony formation assays were used to detect the proliferative ability of these cells. Cell migration was detected by wound healing and Transwell assays, respectively. XF96 extracellular flux analyzer was used to analyze the extent of extracellular acidification and oxygen consumption rate in cells, whereas assay kits were used to detect glucose and lactic acid levels in the cell supernatant. The targeting effect between Britannin and the KLF5 protein was investigated using molecular docking technology. The protein expression levels of KLF5 in cells challenged with Britannin was detected by western blotting. Finally, overexpression of KLF5 in A549 cells was performed before cell proliferation, migration and the glycolysis rate were measured to explore the regulatory effects of Britannin. Britannin was found to inhibit the proliferation, migration and glycolysis of lung cancer cells, during which the protein expression levels of KLF5 were decreased. This suggests that Britannin regulated the expression of KLF5 in A549 cells. Overexpression of KLF5 reversed the inhibitory effects of Britannin on the proliferation, migration and glycolysis in lung cancer cells. In conclusion, these results suggest that Britannin can inhibit cell proliferation, migration and glycolysis by downregulating KLF5 expression in lung cancer cells.

Abstract This study traced changes in Chinese college English teachers' professional identities as a result of participating in international professional development programs and examined how the teachers negotiated their professional identities upon return to China. Five college English teachers with at least 10 months of overseas professional development experience took part in the study. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and relevant documents. It was found that international experiences had a great impact on the teachers' professional identity construction by empowering them to develop multiple identities as language teaching professionals, university academics, and change agents. The teachers' reconstruction of professional identities upon return to China was not a linear and smooth process. It was a dynamic process of negotiating with the constraints of the personal and professional contexts to which the teachers returned. The study sheds light on the identity development of internationally trained language teachers and contributes to a deeper understanding of the impact of international experiences on the professional development of second language teachers in similar contexts. It has implications for study abroad programs and for home institutions about how to support the long-term professional development of returnee teachers.

Abstract The electrochemical corrosion of Ti surfaces is significantly affected by O adsorption, yet the underlying mechanisms remain unexplored. Herein, density functional theory calculations are employed to examine the adsorption energies, structural properties, electronic structures, and thermodynamic stability of atomic O on Ti(0001) surfaces during initial oxidation. Additionally, the impact of O adsorption on Ti dissolution is assessed by introducing a Ti vacancy on the Ti(0001) surface. The passivation of the Ti(0001) surface is predominantly ascribed to the robust adsorption of O atoms. The thermodynamic results reveal that bulk TiO
