    Abstract A growing body of research suggests that mathematical anxiety (MA) seriously affects an individual's math achievement. However, few studies have focused on the cognitive mechanisms of MA in elementary school children. Based on attention control theory (ACT), this research aimed to explore the cognitive mechanism of MA in elementary school children using two studies. In Study 1, the dual-task paradigm of number memory and computation span was used to investigate the difference in processing efficiency between the high-mathematical anxiety (HMA) group and the low-mathematical anxiety (LMA) group. In total, 59 students with HMA and 54 students with LMA participated in Study 1. The results showed that students with HMA had lower processing efficiency in dealing with high-load math tasks. To further investigate the underlying mechanism of low processing efficiency for students with HMA, Study 2 explored the attention bias toward math-related stimuli of students with HMA using the Posner paradigm. In total, 48 students with HMA and 49 students with LMA participated in Study 2. The results showed that math trials put children with HMA in a state of heightened vigilance in general, which might be related to the low processing efficiency in dealing with high-load math tasks. These findings support the ACT and further reveal the mechanism of MA in elementary school children from a cognitive perspective.

    Abstract As an advanced strategy for water treatment, electrosorb technology has attracted extensive attention in the fields of seawater desalination and water pollution treatment due to the advantages of low consumption, environmental protection, simplicity and easy regeneration. In this work, the related adsorption mechanism, primary architectures, electrode materials, and applications of different electrosorption systems were reviewed. In addition, the developments for advanced electrosorb technology were also summarized and prospected.

    Abstract Background: Ovarian cancer (OC) is the second most commonly seen cancer in the US, and patients with OC are commonly diagnosed in the advanced stage. Research into the molecular mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets of OC is becoming increasingly urgent. In our study, we worked to discover the role of TRIM44 in OC development.
    Objective: This study explored whether the overexpression of TRIM44 mediates the NF-kB pathway to promote the progression of OC.
    Methods: A TRIM44 overexpression model was constructed in SKOV3 cells, and the proliferation ability of the cells was detected using the CCK-8 assay. The migration healing ability of cells was detected using cell scratch assay. Cell migration and invasion were detected using Transwell nesting. TUNEL was applied to detect apoptosis, and ELISA and western blot were used to detect the expression of NF-κB signaling pathway proteins. The pathological changes of the tumor tissues were observed using HE staining in a mouse ovarian cancer xenograft model. Immunofluorescence double staining, RT-PCR, and western blot were used to determine the expression of relevant factors in tumour tissues.
    Results: TRIM44 overexpression promoted the proliferation, migration, and invasion of SKOV3 cells in vitro and inhibited apoptosis while enhancing the growth of tumours in vivo. TRIM44 regulated the NF-κB signaling pathway.
    Conclusions: TRIM44 overexpression can regulate the NF-κB signaling pathway to promote the progression of OC, and TRIM44 may be a potential therapeutic target for OC.

    Abstract Taraxasterol is one of the bioactive triterpenoids found in dandelion, a member of the family Asteraceae. In the animal or cellular models of several ailments, including liver damage, gastritis, colitis, arthritis, pneumonia, tumors, and immune system diseases, taraxasterol has been shown to have significant preventive and therapeutic effects. This review aims to evaluate the current state of research and provide an overview of the possible applications of taraxasterol in various diseases. The reported phytochemical properties and pharmacological actions of taraxasterol, including anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and anti-carcinogenic properties, and its potential molecular mechanisms in developing these diseases are highlighted. Finally, we further explored whether taraxasterol has protective effects on neuronal death in neurodegenerative diseases. In addition, more animal and clinical studies are also required on the metabolism, bioavailability, and safety of taraxasterol to support its applications in pharmaceuticals and medicine.

    Abstract A maternal high-fat diet (HFD) has been shown to exert deleterious effects on fetal programming by impairing embryo growth, and exerts a long-term effect on the health of offspring. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of a maternal HFD on the ovaries of offspring from the perspective of oxidative stress. Female C57BL/6J mice were randomly assigned to four groups fed various HFDs during the preconception (4 weeks) and gestation-lactation periods. Offspring were fed a normal diet after weaning, and serum and ovaries were collected at 10 weeks of age. The developmental status of follicles was observed using hematoxylin and eosin staining. The serum oxidative stress levels and insulin resistance were detected using ELISA test kits. The expression of phosphorylated form of H2AX histone variant (γH2AX), forkhead box protein O3a (FOXO3a), Bcl-2-like protein 11 (Bim)and insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 in ovarian tissue was analyzed using reverse transcription-quantitative PCR and western blot analyses to further explore the pathogenic mechanism. Prenatal exposure to a maternal HFD resulted in a reduced number of primordial and preantral follicles in the ovaries of offspring. Exposure to an HFD in the preconception period exerted a greater effect on the offspring compared with exposure to an HFD in the gestation-lactation period.     Abstract Understanding somatic cell totipotency remains a challenge facing scientific inquiry today. Plants display remarkable cell totipotency expression, illustrated by single-cell differentiation during somatic embryogenesis (SE) for plant regeneration. Determining cell identity and exploring gene regulation in such complex heterogeneous somatic cell differentiation have been major challenges. Here, we performed high-throughput single-cell sequencing assays to define the precise cellular landscape and revealed the modulation mode of marker genes during embryogenic differentiation in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) as the crop for biotechnology application. We demonstrated that nonembryogenic calli (NEC) and primary embryogenic calli (PEC) tissues were composed of heterogeneous cells that could be partitioned into 4 broad populations with 6 distinct cell clusters. Enriched cell clusters and cell states were identified in NEC and PEC samples, respectively. Moreover, a broad repertoire of new cluster-specific genes and associated expression modules were identified. The energy metabolism, signal transduction, environmental adaptation, membrane transport pathways, and a series of transcription factors were preferentially enriched in cell embryogenic totipotency expression. Notably, the SE-ASSOCIATED LIPID TRANSFER PROTEIN (SELTP) gene dose-dependently marked cell types with distinct embryogenic states and exhibited a parabolic curve pattern along the somatic cell embryogenic differentiation trajectory, suggesting that SELTP could serve as a favorable quantitative cellular marker for detecting embryogenic expression at the single-cell level. In addition, RNA velocity and Scissor analysis confirmed the pseudo-temporal model and validated the accuracy of the scRNA-seq data, respectively. This work provides valuable marker-genes resources and defines precise cellular taxonomy and trajectory atlases for somatic cell embryogenic differentiation in plant regeneration.

    Abstract Background: Ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma (OSCC) is a life-threatening malignancy with poor prognosis. Therefore, the identification of immune-related genes associated with OSCC prognosis may reveal new targets of immunotherapy for OSCC.
    Patients and methods: The gene expression profiles of overlapped genes were extracted by weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) to identify immune-related modules. Significant genes were identified by univariate Cox regression analysis of model genes. Model characteristic genes were obtained by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) analysis and used to calculate a "signature index". The model's ability to predict prognosis in OSCC patients was assessed using time-dependent receiver operator characteristic curves. Differences in the biological processes and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways between groups with high or low signature index were assessed using gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA). The types of immune cells and their abundance in the two index groups were explored by single-sample GSEA.
    Results: The expression profiles of 3517 overlapped genes were extracted by WGCNA, and nine modules related to the immune system of OSCC were obtained. The expression profiles of 114 hub genes were then subjected to LASSO analysis. Among them, 10 immune-related genes were significant, of which six were identified as model characteristic genes and were used to calculate the signature index. Moreover, 24 types of immune cells were identified in the tumor microenvironment, and their abundance was explored in high- and low-signature index groups of two datasets.
