    Abstract Background: Mass media campaigns have been shown to be effective in reducing cigarette use. However, evidence is limited for whether campaigns can shift e-cigarette use among youth and young adults (YYA). To assess the impact of the truth anti-e-cigarette campaign, which focused on the effects of vaping on mental health, this study examines the relationship between campaign awareness and e-cigarette behaviour among YYA.
    Methods: Data from weekly cross-sectional surveys of YYA aged 15-24 years from September 2021 to October 2022 were used for multilevel models assessing how weekly campaign awareness is related to intentions to use e-cigarettes and current e-cigarette use (past 30 days). Weekly campaign awareness was calculated by averaging individual-level awareness for each week. Control variables included individual-level campaign awareness, sociodemographics, perceived financial situation, parental smoking, sensation seeking, and mental health.
    Results: Weekly campaign awareness ranged from 50% to 78%, with most weeks (77%) being within 65% and 75% of weekly campaign awareness. At weekly awareness levels between 65% and 75%, there was a significant association with lower intentions to use e-cigarettes. A dose-response relationship was observed for current use: compared with weeks with lower (<65%) awareness, weeks with awareness of 65-70% had 14% lower odds of current use, weeks with 70-75% awareness had 16% lower odds and weeks with >75% weekly awareness had 18% lower odds (p=0.018, p=0.009 and p=0.007, respectively).
    Conclusions: Findings from this analysis of weekly campaign awareness demonstrate that exposure to the truth anti-e-cigarette campaign is associated with significantly lower odds of intentions to use and current use of e-cigarette among YYA.

    Abstract Introduction: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration was ordered to evaluate electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) products by September 9, 2021, but missed the court-ordered deadline. This study provides an estimate of electronic cigarette (E-cigarette) use initiation among youth and young adults after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's missed deadline.
    Methods: Data were obtained from the Truth Longitudinal Cohort, a probability-based longitudinal sample of youth and young adults aged between 15 and 24 years (N=1,393). Respondents were surveyed at baseline (July-October 2021) and at follow-up (January-June 2022). Individuals who had not previously used any E-cigarette products were included in analyses conducted in 2022.
    Results: Results indicate that 6.9% of youth and young adults had initiated E-cigarette use, suggesting that about 900,000 youth aged 15-17 years and 320,000 young adults aged 18-20 years initiated E-cigarette use after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's missed court-ordered deadline.
    Conclusions: Over a million youth and young adults initiated E-cigarette use after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's missed court-ordered deadline. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration needs to continue evaluating premarket tobacco product applications, enforce decisions on premarket tobacco product applications, and remove E-cigarettes that are deemed harmful to public health to effectively address the E-cigarette epidemic among young people.

    Abstract Throughout the world, tropical glaciers are rapidly receding and some are at risk of complete loss within the next several decades. It is therefore important to monitor these glacial regions to better understand the factors affecting glacier loss and risks to nearby communities. Here, we provide an update on the summit glacier extents of Pico de Orizaba (19.03°N, 97.27°W) and Iztaccíhuatl (19.18°N, 98.64°W) in central Mexico, reporting areas every 1–11 years between 2001 and 2019 (depending on the availability of high-quality imagery). Glacier extents are derived from multispectral satellite imagery (Landsat 7–8 and the European Space Agency’s Sentinel-2) using a semi-automated mapping method that takes the ratio of the near-infrared (or panchromatic) and shortwave infrared bands and applies appropriate threshold(s) for glacier identification. We also use thermal band imagery from Landsat 7–8 to estimate surface temperatures of both the glaciers and the surrounding terrain to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the summit environment. We find that glacier retreat has continued on both summits, and surface temperatures (even over glacier ice) can be at or near the melting point of water during some parts of the year, particularly on lower-elevation Iztaccíhuatl, suggesting a risk of continued ice loss in the future.

    Abstract Background: Formally employed mothers are vulnerable to early cessation of exclusive breastfeeding. Kenyan national policy requires employer-provided maternity benefits and workplace lactation supports.
    Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate willingness to use nationally mandated workplace lactation supports among formally employed women in Kenya.
    Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey among 304 mothers of children ages ≤12 mo in Naivasha, Kenya, who were currently formally employed and employed before delivery of the most recent child to assess availability of and willingness to use current and potential future workplace lactation supports.
    Results: The most available reported workplace lactation supports were schedule flexibility to arrive late or leave early (87.8%) or visit a child to nurse during lunch (24.7%), followed by company-funded community-based daycare (7.6%). Few (<4.0%) reported the availability of lactation rooms, on-site daycares, transportation to breastfeed during lunch, refrigerators for expressed milk, or manual or electric breastmilk pumps. If made available, >80% of mothers reported moderate or strong willingness to use flexible schedules to arrive late or leave early, break during lunch, and transportation to visit a child to nurse. A moderate proportion reported strong willingness to use on-site daycares (63.8%), company-funded community-based daycare (56.9%), on-site lactation rooms (60.5%), refrigeration for expressed milk (49.3%), manual (40.5%), and electric pumps (27.6%). Mothers expressed fear of missing production targets and reported more willingness to use on-site compared with off-site daycare to save transportation time but noted concerns about chemical exposures and early arrival times with young infants. Hesitations regarding the use of on-site lactation rooms included concerns about privacy, milk identification and storage, and use and sharing of pumps.
    Conclusions: Flexible schedules were the workplace lactation supports in highest demand among formally employed mothers. Maternal willingness to use lactation rooms, refrigeration, and pumping equipment was moderate to low, suggesting sensitization may help to increase demand as the implementation of Kenyan policies moves forward.
