Abstract The grain size and heavy metals (Cu, Pb, Zn, Cr, Cd, and Hg) in 42 seafloor and eight river sediments from the Kompong Som Bay of Cambodia were analyzed to identify sediment characteristics and environmental quality. The high-value areas for all the metals were mainly distributed in the northern and central parts of the bay, occupied by fine-grained sediments. There was slightly to moderately severe enrichment of Pb, Cd, and Hg in the southern and western coastal areas of Sihanoukville. Although the current ecological environment risk was relatively low, the coastal areas of Sihanoukville had low to moderate pollution of Pb, Cd, and Hg, which were closely related to pollutant emissions from the industrial production from power plants and oil refineries. It is recommended to establish a normalized monitoring mechanism and control the discharge of coastal pollutants to ensure the sustainable development of the coastal environment.

Title translation Metabolic myopathy causing rhabdomyolysis.
Abstract Rhabdomyolysis is a potential life-threatening condition characterized by a rapid destruction of striated muscle cells. Causes include trauma, muscle hypoxia, drugs, malignant hyperthermia, infections, toxins and metabolic myopathies. We report a case of a 52-year-old man with hereditary myoglobi-n-uria and gastroenteritis-induced rhabdomyolysis. Metabolic myopathy as a cause of rhabdomyolysis is rare but potential life-threatening if not diagnosed and treated promptly.

Abstract Characterizing community responses to environmental disturbances is difficult because of the complexity of heterogeneous ecosystems. A geographical self-organizing map (Geo-SOM) was applied to present the spatial distribution patterns of benthic communities in a river. The benthic macroinvertebrate communities were collected in the mainstream of the Nakdong River in South Korea. Geo-SOM is a machine learning technique that extracts spatial patterns of given data across spatial weight k values (0–5), which control the vicinity of the map, to extract geographical information effectively. In the results, clusters were formed mainly according to the topography on a large scale and anthropogenic impacts on a small-scale showing consistency in spatial patterning for benthic communities in the gradient across different degrees of spatial weight. Geo-SOM provided both comprehensive and detailed views for presenting species-space relationships. Corresponding to the decrease in k value (more weight in geographical information), we accumulated data variations to present a comprehensive view of spatial species distributions. Overall, correlations between species were more associated with latitude rather than longitude. The feasibility of spatial clustering was also demonstrated with the effective differentiation of community indices. Community indices were effectively differentiated into clusters in the Geo-SOM. Finally, Geo-SOM is a useful tool for extracting the spatial distribution patterns of communities in a comprehensible manner for the monitoring and management of communities in aquatic ecosystems.

Title translation Acute cardiac failure in pheochromocytoma.
Abstract Pheochromocytoma (P) is an endocrine catecholamine-secreting tumor. Classical symptoms like hypertension, attacks of sweating, palpitations, headache and palor are related to catecholamine discharge. We provide a case of P in a 71 year-old man presenting with acute cardiac failure, severe reduction in left ventricular function and elevated myocardial enzymes. No coronary stenoses were found. The myocardium regained nearly normal systolic function in one and a half month. A renal P was laparoscopically removed. We discuss the pathophysiology of catecholamine cardiomyopathy.

Abstract: ... flow, feature extraction, self-organizing map (SOM) based clustering, people counting, and people ...

Abstract Based on the rapid increase in the demand for people counting and tracking systems for surveillance applications, there is a critical need for more accurate, efficient, and reliable systems. The main goal of this study was to develop an accurate, sustainable, and efficient system that is capable of error-free counting and tracking in public places. The major objective of this research is to develop a system that can perform well in different orientations, different densities, and different backgrounds. We propose an accurate and novel approach consisting of preprocessing, object detection, people verification, particle flow, feature extraction, self-organizing map (SOM) based clustering, people counting, and people tracking. Initially, filters are applied to preprocess images and detect objects. Next, random particles are distributed, and features are extracted. Subsequently, particle flows are clustered using a self-organizing map, and people counting and tracking are performed based on motion trajectories. Experimental results on the PETS-2009 dataset reveal an accuracy of 86.9% for people counting and 87.5% for people tracking, while experimental results on the TUD-Pedestrian dataset yield 94.2% accuracy for people counting and 94.5% for people tracking. The proposed system is a useful tool for medium-density crowds and can play a vital role in people counting and tracking applications.

Title translation Myositis as differential diagnosis in polymyalgia rheumatica.
Abstract An 82-year-old man was diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica. Rapid improvement was achieved after peroral prednisolone administration. Two years later while being treated with low-dose prednisolone, the acute phase reactants increased, now also with proximal muscle weakness, weight loss and elevated muscle enzymes. Needle biopsy confirmed dermatomyositis. Polymyalgia rheumatica is a common disease among the elderly. It has several differential diagnoses including dermatomyositis and polymyositis.

Title translation Lactic acidosis in a patient with exercabation of asthma receiving inhalation therapy.
Abstract We present a case of severe lactic acidosis due to exacerbation of asthma in presence of normal tissue perfusion and oxygenation in a 35-year-old woman with poorly controlled asthma. After admission, she was treated continuously with inhalation of salbutamol (a beta-agonist) resulting in lactic acidosis, which was misinterpreted as treatment failure. The lactic acidosis reversed on discontinuation of the inhalation therapy. Although lactic acidosis is a rare complication to inhalation of beta-agonists, it is important for the clinicians to recognize this.
