Abstract In this paper, we present a gradient porous hollow fiber structure integrated the signal transduction within a microspace, serving as a platform for cellular metabolism monitoring. We developed a nonenzymatic electrochemical electrode by coupling carbon nanotubes (CNT) and metal organic frameworks (MOF) nanozyme on three-dimensional (3D) gradient porous hollow fiber membrane (GPF) for in-situ detection of cell released hydrogen peroxide (H

Abstract Background: Surgery for anterior clinoid meningiomas (ACMs) remains challenging due to their tight adhesion to vital neurovascular and has been traditionally performed through a transcranial approach.
Method: We present the key steps of the endoscopic endonasal approach (EEA) for ACMs with a video illustration and figures. The relevant surgical anatomy is described along with the indications and limitations of this approach.
Conclusion: The EEA offers a good treatment option for selected ACMs. It allows for the removal of involved hyperostotic bone and dural attachments, early identification and control of the neurovascular structure, and avoidance of brain retraction.

Abstract Background: Sucrose non-fermenting 1 (SNF1)-associated protein kinase 2 (SnRK2) proteins belong to a relatively small family of plant-specific serine/threonine (Ser/Thr) protein kinases. SnRK2s participate in the abscisic acid (ABA) signaling pathway and play important roles in many biotic and abiotic stresses. At present, no SnRK2 gene has been reported in quinoa, and the recently published genome for this species provides an opportunity to identify and characterize the SnRK2 gene family.
Results: We identified 13 SnRK2 genes in the C. quinoa genome by bioinformatics analysis. Based on their phylogenetic relationships, these genes were divided into three subfamilies, similar to the situation in other plant species. Gene duplication analysis showed that there were seven pairs of homologous genes in the CqSnRK2 family, and that purifying selection played an important role in the evolution of SnRK2 genes. Gene structure analysis showed that the first exon in the SnRK2 family genes has the same length as the last exon, and that CqSnRK2 genes in the same subfamily have similar gene structures. Sequence analysis showed that the N-terminal region contains three highly conserved motifs. In addition, many kinds of cis-elements were identified in the promoter region of CqSnRK2, including those for hormone responses, stress responses, and tissue-specific expression. Transcription data analysis and qRT-PCR results showed that CqSnRK2 has different expression patterns in roots, stems, and leaves, and responded to biotic and abiotic stresses such as low temperature, salt, drought, and abscisic acid (ABA). In addition, we found that the protein encoded by CqSnRK2.12 was localized to the cytoplasm and nucleus, and there was no self-activation. The results of CqSnRK2.12 overexpression showed that transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana lines had increased drought tolerance compared to the controls.
Conclusion: The results of our study provide references for further studies on the evolution, function, and expression of the SnRK2 gene family in quinoa.

Abstract Objective: To investigate the effects of dexmedetomidine (Dex) on the proliferation, invasiveness and tumorigenesis of human PCa PC3 cells and its action mechanism.
Methods: We treated human PCa PC3 cells with Dex at 0 μmol/L (the control group), 1 μmol/L (Dex group 1), 2 μmol/L (Dex group 2), and 5 μmol/L (Dex group 3). After 24, 48 and 72 hours of treatment, we examined the proliferation, apoptosis and invasiveness of the cells using cell counting kit-8 (CCK8), flow cytometry and Transwell assay respectively, measured the tumorigenicity of the transplanted tumors in the nude mice, and determined the expressions of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway-related proteins in the cells by Western blot.
Results: After treatment, the A value of the PC3 cells was significantly increased in all the four groups (P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, the three Dex groups showed a decrease in the A value, an elevated rate of apoptotic cells (P < 0.05), an increased number of membrane-penetrating cells (P < 0.05), reduced volume of the transplanted tumors (P < 0.05), and down-regulated expressions of phosphorylated extracellular signal-regulated kinase (p-ERK) / ERK and phosphorylated c-Jun N-terminal kinase (p-JNK) / JNK (P < 0.05) with the increased dose of Dex. The volume of the transplanted tumors in the nude mice was increased in all the four groups in a time-dependent manner (P < 0.05).
Conclusion: Dex inhibits the proliferation and invasiveness, promotes the apoptosis, and reduces the tumorigenicity of human PCa PC3 cells by decreasing the phosphorylation of ERK and JNK in the MAPK signaling pathway.

Abstract Optical metasurfaces, capable of manipulating the properties of light with a thickness at the subwavelength scale, have been the subject of extensive investigation in recent decades. This research has been mainly driven by their potential to overcome the limitations of traditional, bulky optical devices. However, most existing optical metasurfaces are confined to planar and rigid designs, functions, and technologies, which greatly impede their evolution toward practical applications that often involve complex surfaces. The disconnect between two-dimensional (2D) planar structures and three-dimensional (3D) curved surfaces is becoming increasingly pronounced. In the past two decades, the emergence of flexible electronics has ushered in an emerging era for metasurfaces. This review delves into this cutting-edge field, with a focus on both flexible and conformal design and fabrication techniques. Initially, we reflect on the milestones and trajectories in modern research of optical metasurfaces, complemented by a brief overview of their theoretical underpinnings and primary classifications. We then showcase four advanced applications of optical metasurfaces, emphasizing their promising prospects and relevance in areas such as imaging, biosensing, cloaking, and multifunctionality. Subsequently, we explore three key trends in optical metasurfaces, including mechanically reconfigurable metasurfaces, digitally controlled metasurfaces, and conformal metasurfaces. Finally, we summarize our insights on the ongoing challenges and opportunities in this field.

Abstract Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection can trigger autoimmune inflammation in the liver, leading to acute autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). We herein report a case involving a 39-year-old woman with a 23-day history of yellow skin and urine. Using the revised original scoring system of the International AIH Group, we definitively diagnosed the patient with acute severe AIH (AS-AIH). She began treatment with 80 mg/day intravenous methylprednisolone, which was gradually reduced and followed by eventual transition to oral methylprednisolone. The patient finally achieved a biochemical response after 30 days of therapy, and liver transplantation was avoided. Clinicians should be aware that the onset of AS-AIH after SARS-CoV-2 infection differs from the onset of conventional AIH with respect to its clinical and pathological features. Early diagnosis and timely glucocorticoid treatment are crucial in improving outcomes.
