Title translation SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence among workers in a hospital in Madrid.
Abstract Objective: The impact of the first wave of the pandemic due to SARS-CoV-2 has been enormous in Spanish hospitals, being Madrid one of the most affected communities. The aim of this study was to analyze the impact of the pandemic on the workers of a hospital located in one of the most affected areas of Madrid (Alcalá de Henares) using a chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA).
Methods: We conducted a seroprevalence survey between June 25
Results: A total of 2,219 workers were included and 847 of them (38.2%) presented IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, being seroprevalence significantly higher for HCW (39.3%) than for nHCW (30.7%, p=0.006). We found no differences regarding positivity rates compared with the first diagnostic approach for symptomatic and asymptomatic workers, or infected workers per professional category. In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, the use of PPE (protective, OR=0.65; 95%CI: 0.48-0.89; p<0.001) and previous contact with COVID-19 patients (risk factor, OR=1.93; 95%CI: 1.37-2.72; p<0.001) were independent factors that were associated with SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity.
Conclusions: More than 38% of our workers presented IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2. We found no differences in the positivity rates between diagnostic approaches. The use of PPE (protective) and previous contact with COVID-19 patients (risk factor) were associated with infection.

Title translation Idiopatic chondrolysis of the hip. Long-term follow-up of a case.
Abstract Idiopathic chondrolysis of the hip is a very rare disease occurring during adolescence. Pain and limp are the most common symptoms and are a consequence of an accelerated loss of the articular cartilage with a lower range of move-ment producing rigidity in the last instance. The natural history is unpredictable and varies between complete and spon-taneous recovery and the ankylosis. The current recommended treatment is conservative, restricting the surgical option for residual stiffness. A clinical case of an eleven year old patient is presented. He consulted for a 2 year, torpid course of left groin pain with limp and rigidity. He received treatment with rest, discharge, analgesics and rehabilitation without any improvement initially. He was treated conservatively with NSAIDS, extremity discharge periods, soft traction in the hospital and at home and rehabilitation, recovering mobility and normal gait 6 years after the beginning of the symptoms. Twelve years after the onset of the symptoms the patient leads a normal life without symptoms and has a symmetric range of motion of both hips.

Abstract Objetivo.

Abstract Mutations in the mitochondrial DNA polymerase, POLG, are associated with a variety of clinical presentations, ranging from early onset fatal brain disease in Alpers syndrome to chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia. The majority of mutations are linked with disturbances of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) integrity and maintenance. On a molecular level, depending on their location within the enzyme, mutations either lead to mtDNA depletion or the accumulation of multiple mtDNA deletions, and in some cases these molecular changes can be correlated to the clinical presentation. We identified a patient with a dominant p.Y955H mutation in POLG, presenting with a severe, early-onset multi-systemic mitochondrial disease with bilateral sensorineural hearing loss, cataract, myopathy, and liver failure. Using a combination of disease models of Drosophila melanogaster and in vitro biochemistry analysis, we compare the molecular consequences of the p.Y955H mutation to the well-documented p.Y955C mutation. We demonstrate that both mutations affect mtDNA replication and display a dominant negative effect, with the p.Y955H allele resulting in a more severe polymerase dysfunction.
