Abstract We present a measurement of the decay amplitudes in B-->J/psiK*(892) channels using 20.7 fb(-1) of data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at PEP-II. We measure a P-wave fraction R(perpendicular) = (16.0 +/- 3.2 +/- 1.4)% and a longitudinal polarization fraction (59.7 +/- 2.8 +/- 2.4)%. The measurement of a relative phase that is neither 0 nor pi, phi = 2.50 +/- 0.20 +/-0.08 radians, favors a departure from the factorization hypothesis. Although the decay B-->/psiK(pi) proceeds mainly via K*(892), there is also evidence for K2*(1430) and K(pi) S-wave contributions.

Abstract It is known that the Metronome Response Task (MRT)-one of the most used mind-wandering sampling paradigms, struggles to differentiate between spontaneous mind-wandering (wherein one's attention is uncontrollably shifted away from the task at hand) and deliberate mind-wandering (wherein one's attention is purposefully shifted away). Thus, we endeavoured to design and test a new mind-wandering measure, called the In Sync Task (IST), that can achieve such differentiation more readily. Unlike the MRT, which involves having participants click in sync (using a mouse) with rhythmically presented, auditory monotones, the IST requires participants to (1) click in sync with tone triplets that increase incrementally in loudness and (2) modulate their clicking force to the presented tone's loudness. Here, we measured (1) participants' variabilities in their rhythmic response times (as is the MRT) and (2) their consistency in appropriately modulating their clicking force. Across two separate samples of university students (n = 119 and n = 121) collected between June 2022 to February 2023, we showed performance differences between the mind-wandering subtypes. Specifically, participants were better able to modulate their clicking force during epochs of spontaneous, compared with deliberate, mind-wandering, whereas the MRT was unable to differentiate between these conditions. In sum, we show that there appear to be greater costs to performance when one deliberately mind-wanders, as opposed to spontaneously mind-wandering.

Abstract With more new graduate primary care nurse practitioners (NPs) practicing in remote locales than ever before, their preparation for performing emergency procedural skills (EPSs) is critical for safe and effective care. Emergency procedural skills are not uniformly taught in primary care academic programs but are easily imparted via additional training and practice. The purpose of this project was to develop and pilot an expert panel-validated training program specifically for NPs bound for remote practice and to evaluate how the participants rated their self-efficacy in performing specific EPSs before and after completing the training, called the Remote Advanced Skills Training for NPs (RAST-NP). A diverse expert panel rated EPSs to determine skills to be included in a pilot training program. After achieving consensus on skills to be taught, a hybrid online-in-person curriculum was developed using standards from the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning. This training was conducted for more than 2 days and delivered to a class of 15 primary care NP students in their final year of education. All participants completed a pre- and postparticipation survey to assess their self-efficacy using a validated questionnaire, modified to address the EPSs taught. The participants reported higher confidence following training on all EPSs taught, as indicated by an increase in difference in mean scores from 1 to 6.15 on an 11-point scale. For each EPS, the difference was statistically significant by both a paired t test and a Whitney-Mann U test with probability of 0.01 or less. Results indicate that the methods utilized (i.e., psychomotor practice) increased confidence in NP students, and they also suggest that the amount of time spent practicing skills is associated with interval increases in confidence. A combination of didactic and psychomotor methods was uniformly effective at increasing confidence, and thereby self-efficacy, and higher success is associated with more time practicing the kinesthetic skills in situ.

Abstract Mammalian cells can die by apoptosis or by one of several non-apoptotic mechanisms, such as ferroptosis. Here, we present a protocol to distinguish ferroptosis from other cell death mechanisms in cultured cells. We describe steps for seeding cells, administering mechanism-specific cell death inducers and inhibitors, and measuring cell death and viability. We then detail the use of molecular markers to verify mechanisms of cell death. This protocol can be used to identify and distinguish ferroptosis in 2D and 3D cultures. For complete details on the use and execution of this protocol, please refer to Ko, et al. (2019),

Abstract Approximately 1 in 640 adults between 20 and 40 years of age is a survivor of childhood cancer. However, survival has often come at the expense of increased risk of long-term complications, including chronic health conditions and higher mortality rates. Similarly, long-term survivors of childhood non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) experience significant morbidity and mortality related to prior cancer treatments, highlighting the importance of primary and secondary prevention strategies to mitigate late toxicity. As a result, effective treatment regimens for pediatric NHL have evolved to reduce both short- and long-term toxicity through cumulative dose reductions and elimination of radiation. The establishment of effective regimens facilitates shared decision-making opportunities for frontline treatment selection that considers efficacy, acute toxicity, convenience, and late effects of treatments. The current review seeks to merge current frontline treatment regimens with survivorship guidelines to enhance understanding of potential long-term health risks to facilitate best treatment practices.
