    Abstract The Pigments from Microalgae Handbook presents the current state of knowledge on pigment production using microalgae-based processes, and covers both the scientific fundamentals of this technology and its practical applications. It addresses biology, chemistry, biochemistry, analysis and engineering aspects, as well as applications of natural pigments in photosynthetic organisms. The book also describes the analytical procedures associated with the characterization of pigments and the engineering aspects of microalgal pigment production. It considers the three major classes of pigments(chlorophylls, carotenoids and phycobiliproteins) produced and surveys the main commercial applications of these chemicals. The book offers a valuable source of information for industrial researchers and practitioners in industrial biotechnology, as it covers various engineering aspects of microalgal pigment production, such as bioreactors and bioprocesses, industrial extraction processes, and the bioeconomy of production including life-cycle assessment. The book will also be of interest to undergraduate and graduate students of biochemistry, food chemistry, and industrial microbiology.

This timely tribute is the just recognition of her work and her intellectual and human dimension.     Abstract Background: Cancer patients experience distress as a result of their health condition, which, in turn, contributes to the progression of the disease. Moreover, their daily activities, well-being, and health status are significantly impacted by pain and other symptoms. In this context, empowering these patients with self-care and pain management skills can greatly contribute to effective symptom control.
    Aim: To develop and implement an educational approach focused on empowering family caregivers and patients with advanced cancer in effectively managing pain at home.
    Method: An educational program, PECP/C-Pain Management, was developed to empower family caregivers and cancer patients to manage pain at home. A quasi-experimental study involving 52 participants with advanced cancer was conducted to test the program. Participants' skills, behaviors, and knowledge related to self-care and pain management were assessed before and after the intervention using an appropriate instrument, the Pain Management Knowledge and Behavior Scale.
    Results: Pain was reported as the primary symptom, and following the educational program, participants were able to monitor pain and other symptoms and effectively self-manage their treatment.
    Conclusions: The findings suggest that the PECP/C-Pain Management intervention was effective in improving participants' knowledge and skills in managing pain, leading to better symptom control. In addition, the Pain Management Knowledge and Behavior Scale is a reliable tool for measuring the outcomes of this intervention.

    Abstract Trata-se da tradução daobra <em>Tools of the Mind</em>.

    Neste sentido, tal como o original, o livro está organizado em espiral,em termos de encadeamento e grau de complexidade, em que os conteúdos searticulam progressivamente. Na secção I (capítulos de 1 a 3), introduzem-se asprincipais ideias de Vygotsky, comparando-as com outras perspetivas, familiaresaos educadores de crianças pequenas e aos estudantes de Psicologia. O capítulo2 contém uma nova secção (relativamente a edição anterior), em que é descrita aabordagem de Vygotsky para a educação especial. A secção II do livro (capítulos4, 5, 6 e 7) revisita os pontos referidos na primeira secção, tentado ensaiaraplicações aos processos de ensino/aprendizagem. A secção II foi substancialmentereorganizada nesta edição, descrevendo, agora, estratégias gerais de abordagemdo ensino/aprendizagem e táticas específicas que podem ser utilizadas nesteprocesso. A secção III (capítulos 8 a 14) é, talvez, a mais detalhada,proporcionando exemplos de aplicações específicas. A tradução da segunda edição(mais aprofundada que a primeira) cobre aspetos específicos do desenvolvimentodas crianças de várias idades, desde bebés a crianças do primeiro ciclo doensino básico. Nesta edição foram acrescentados capítulos diferentes paraespecificar a natureza da aprendizagem e ensino que as diferentes idadesdesenvolvimentais requerem ou apresentam. Os exemplos de práticas de sala deaula, baseadas em Vygotsky, que foram previamente discutidas num únicocapítulo, são, agora, desenvolvidas e apresentadas em três capítulos separados,de acordo com as idades das crianças.
